Apparently money didn’t have as much to do with sonny bill going to France as we all believe. His defection is good for the NRL as it is a wake up call to show that things have gone wrong and its not the game it used to be, apparently AFL is equal with league now there both the number one sport according to Sonny. Im not arguing with that fact common sense says league isn’t what it used to be, AFL is catching, because all them bloody Victorians who don”t like Victoria (who actually does?) :) are imposing the game on the rest of the country. But geez Sonny has a high opinion of himself if he thinks the NRL is gonna thank him in the future for his leaving and waking them up. Considering he didn’t even tell his girlfriend (who he just set up house with) the day he was leaving that he was going to France and that she should join him two weeks later. What a poor disillusioned young man he his. Hope he bends over a lot in France otherwise no one is gonna see the sun shine.

Rugby in France is the poorest code of Football. The French consider the players all uneducated thugs. Rugby doesn’t even get a mention in the French press, but their 4th division Football (soccer) makes headlines. My oh my is SBW disillusioned if he thinks he is going to become a famous star in French rugby.

I watched that interview. “Money Bill Mundine”. I actually feel a little sorry for him, he has obviously been influenced incredibly by Mundine etc. For god sake he even referred to himself in the 3rd person over and over. In my opinion, Sonny came across as not the most intelligent person in the world, and as such the kind of person who would really feed off of the bullsh1t that is fed to him.

I agree that any person in any job would be mad to not consider an offer of an ability to earn twice or three times what they currently earn, but the way in which he left was appalling. Like one of the guys said last night, I’m sure he wouldn’t have done it if he was offered the same coin as at the dogs, or if the dogs were at the top of the comp. Plus, He sounded like he is portraying himself as a mater, that he did for all the other players. Bullsh1t. he did it for the coin and thats ok, but don’t be sneaky and don’t be a liar. If he was doing for the other players he would’ve sat the season out and stayed here, not left under the cover of darkness to take up a far more lucrative offer in a sub par competition.

On the subject of doing for the players, in a team game the players need to show a trade union mentality, and if it comes to it they should strike for better pay and/or conditions. I don’t know if anyone follows nfl, but the players did that in the 80s, and while for fans it sucked the bag, in the long run the players got their point across and things improved.

I’m with Gribbles. I had mixed feelings about his interview. On one hand he did make some valid points, but on the other he did sound like a little boy who has been influenced by the people around him. He was not speaking his own mind on a number of occasions. When Fatty went into the audience afterwards was hilarious. The first guy he spoke to looked close to tears!

A trade union scenario would be interesting, would they go on strike for better pay and conditions? I guess it would depend on how many NRL players feel that they are really getting screwed. All that we are hearing at the moment is from the big names. Are the ‘squad players’ feeling the same way? Paying the stars more would not necessarily guarantee them a better salary. Especially in a sport which seems to struggle to generate revenues

Dunny Silly Squillions should remember this:-
6 million Australians work all week for an average of $50,000 per year, to train maybe once or twice a week at night, all to enjoy a game of sport on the weekend (whatever code/sport it might be), & they sustain injuries etc, most can’t afford massages or physio etc, yet, they play the game to be with their mates, for the thrill & excitement of winning, general fitness & well being & socialising afterwards. None of them get paid a cent to play a sport they enjoy, in fact they have to pay to play the game, &, I bet a lot of them are in a job they don’t like.
However, DSS gets paid $500,000 (ten times more including third party payments) to play a sport he enjoys, he averages only 15 games a year. This is exceptional money for playing a game you really are dedicated too. Would DSS like to pay to learn to drive a bus at night twice a week, so he can drive one on the weekend & not get paid a cent. He wouldn’t because he knows it’s a job or a chore & nobody wants to drive buses & not get paid. After listening to him on the footy show DSS should learn to drive buses because there will certainly be no life for him after football, he is more uneducated than The Man himself, that’s why Mundine likes him. Mundine finally found someone dumber than himself, who loves his dribble. I hope the Bulldogs & the NRL send DSS broke through the courts, & it would be great to see him never play a game of football again. Lesson to learn, you can’t walk out on a contract the way he did without there being a price to be paid.

Think comparing SBW to the average punter is a waste of time. Yeah he earnt good coin at the Dogs, slightly less than John Terry or Lampard earn in a week at Chelsea. You can drive a bus at 55. So SBW should be happy regardless. Let me know who signs with Gavin Orr in the next 12 months
