What do you die hard NRL fans think?

The Scrum….

The current form is the biggest joke ever. I used to like when the other team had a chance of winning it against the feed, now it looks like they barely put any effort into it.

I remember, at least I think i do, when QLD won against the feed and scored a try that won the match.

Yeh Sarg – in the name of speeding the game up they’ve wrecked it although the Storm have won against the scrum a couple of times of late – I’d like to see the old way return – Syd GC is a good game 28 all @ 60 minute – hang on someone just got over!! Nup, held up!!

Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

The scrum is an absolute joke…getting called back for feeding into the tunnel and for raking at the ball if you haven’t got the feed.Teams don’t even push anymore.

I say either bring a true scrum back or get rid of it and just have another handover.

I reckon hand over too franky, just like touch
none of this backs running in to form a srum to stop game clock,

It’s a signature thing, it is one of the differences between Union and League that really stands out. Union actually scrum, League just use it instead of a boring hand over. I suppose I have just pointed out another reason to keep it (according to the auth) that being it’s different to just handing it over, not so boring…what do they replace it with to keep up interest? Agreed, it’s a waste of time…

I’m with you guys. As a touch football player, and rugby player, the NRL scrum is just wrong. Honestly, just choose to have it or not. I it an absolute joke.

I understand the ‘speed up the game’ business, and not wanting to be a rugby union clone, but damn, it is just a disgrace. Think of something better, or get rid of it altogether.

I think there is enough differences between the two….as far as speeding up the game I fail to see how calling a scrum back two or three times speeds up the game.

yes agree – especially when the ref makes millimetre calls for re-scrum!

Having played League for 12 years and being a former referee I see no point in scrums. They used to be a contest but ask any forwards out there and they say the scrums are good for a rest …

They either need to have the scrums like Union where there is a contest, without the penalties they have in Union, or a simple optional free kick to the opposition where they can take a tap and run or if the game is getting away from them take a risk and try to put it into touch (not out on the full however – dedicated League rule followers will know what I mean).

the scrum is a joke. it should be an actual contest, or pissed off completely. they don’t even have to feed it in the middle for gods sake.

IT DOESN’T COST YOU ANYTHING TO BE POLITE

Agree 100% Gribbles however any halfback (either U10’s or NRL) that puts the ball in the middle is bound to get the big hook and not be playing the following week especially if you lose the scrum!

Being an ex halfback there are certain “tricks” to feeding the scrum if you have a referee that insists it goes in the middle ;-)

but those ‘tricks’ are one of the things that make good halfbacks, how are the kids going to learn if they feed it into the 2nd row?

Understand your point Franky. There are so many aspects of the game now that young kids won’t learn because they’re never taught properly.

I remember playing as a young bloke and doing skills sessions where our coach took us through the very basics from playing the ball, passing left and right, picking a ball up off the ground, getting your head in the right spot to tackle and learning to fall properly if the tackle on you goes wrong.

I watch my nephews play and half the team can only pass one side, forget about tackling low and a young bloke broke his wrist recently because he tried to cushion the blow from a tackle by putting his arm down as he was falling.

Sorry about the rant but back on topic …. Have a look at the NRL and see how the players need to be “coached” by the referee how to form a bloody scrum. Tight head props not putting their foot forward and not even binding properly, etc

If the players can’t even get it right then take it out of the game.

Mick

I think this thread should be sent to the NRL….like it will make a difference.

Glad to know everybody thinks the same on this one. My brother used to play and he said they didn’t often put in big a big effort.
