Pom, I played bbal through school, and as a result the footies always hated us, which in turn meant that i never got right into it. I love the origin don’t get me wrong, but I just think afl is a much more intense and athletic game.

plus i’ve been to two league grand finals and several afl regular season and finals games. and i reckon the atmosphere at any afl club game in melbourne, even if the two teams are running last, is miles better than league!!!!!!!!

even as a one eyed carlton supporter i have to say the lions (whom i despise) looked really really sharp. we never stood a chance. its a big problem that fev doesn’t stand up when we struggle. he seems to get down when he should be rallyng the guys. have to say chris judd IMO looked good. the guy just oozes class.

I think it will take another year or two for Carlton to get it together, Pagan did too much damage for a quick recovery.
Gribbles you talk like you still believe the Pagan line of one forward one paddock, that worked with north only because Carey was a freak.
Fev is a good player just not that good, Carlton need more options up forward, look at the way the vic team played, Fev has talent, he just cannot go it alone and should not be expected to

yeah you right sonab- i actually don’t follow pagan’s theory, more that he needs to motivate the younger guys rather than hanging his head, then kicking 5 or 6 when the game is effectively over! but i could not agree more that he needs some help up there. when he’s the only real option other guys need to step up when he gets shut down.
yeah they are going to take another season or so, but i still think they’ll sneak into the eight.

Fev gave out plenty of good leads but they weren’t capitalised on. Time and time again, turnovers were costing the blues points. That and getting thrashed in centre clearances. It’s worth noting that from quarter time onwards, the blues matched Brisbane point for point. The damage was done in Q1. A good overall effort considering the lopsided clearances. Judd was uninspiring, barely got a touch in the first half. I was impressed with Heath Scotland though.

divot: couldn’t agree more, scotland was verry impressive. judd looks effective everytime he touches the ball. But as far as matching the lions point for point after 1st quarter, I reckon the lions just cruised. kind of hard to keep that killer instict and drive when you’re ahead by so much early. i’m also impressed with eddy betts. that kid has so much heart, the rest of the team needs to take a leaf out of his book

yes agree with you gribbles about eddy every thing he did good or bad he still had a smile on his face the guy has so much talent.

he’s similar in my book to mark riddell who plays for parramatta (except betts has WAYYY more talent). both are an absolute pleasure to watch as you can see they actually enjoy every minute of the game and always play their hearts out, good or bad. I reckon its great to see guys who are making a living out of something we mortals could only dream about and they obviously are grateful for it.
