Hi guys, Just wondering how many of you played senior football. I played 10 years both in our A grade and reserves, about half and half, in Brisbane.
|
|
played heaps until I was 15, then we moved to QLD and I played Rugby. Played 2 games of senior footy when I was 15 in Albury, so I guess that counts.
|
|
Tried out for the under 14s. Was no good so packed it in and took up badminton, hockey, golf, chess etc.

Played suburban footy until I was 33, then realising I was too old, too fat and too slow to play on I grabbed a whistle and have been a white maggot for the last 10 years. Played just over 350 games (junior & senior) and have umpired 200+. Love the footy.

1 game, 1 kick, 1 goal. i retired.
For further information, send me a PM? |

Junior footy only for me. I started Motocross at 9 and that pushed every other sport to the background.

Played a lot as a junior and then not again until my school side was short at the start of the season and I played every game. I was hooked again and played a full season of under 19s and then about 10 games of seniors before two dodgy shoulders and a bad ankle forced me to retire. 3 years ago I filled in for a mates team and lasted 5 minutes before dislocating a shoulder. I played the whole game though.

I retired from footy pretty young, played senior footy since 16... Gave it all up in the name of love...(wife and beer)

Still playing - tenth season for the same club, won 3 flags, and we're in good shape to have a crack at another. I just need to get over the old man injuries and get back into the team!

I nominated for the draft in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Nobody picked
me up Played a few more seasons and gave it away due to work committments and international travel.

Played with one club (190 games, 170 top side -20 reserves) until they folded and went to another at age 34 (151 games 1 season league - rest seconds and 3rds) and finally retired at the end of last season at 45 (ten years too late according to the wife!). Seemed like a good time as we went through undefeated, won the flag and played my 150th for life membership. Plus it was becoming embarrassing playing with the sons of my teammates from my first club! Been too busy to miss it yet, running 4X a week, swimming 4X a week, and golf 1-2 a week. Will go to watch a few games later but found it hard to watch the last training session before the first game. Almost had the urge to saddle up again but then my body reminded me of how much it was enjoying retirement!

Great effort gregorywannabe! Played 2 seasons at Mt Waverley at 21 and 22 wwhilst still playing Gaelic Football on Sundays as I had since I was 16 in the senior side then gave it away and played solely Gaelic Football for about the next 8 years. I made a comeback for Devon Meadows at about 33 years old and found out that I was worse than I ever remembered and played with a bunch of spastics with only about 5 blokes in the 2nds able to follow simple instructions. Gave it away at the end of the season and have no intention of playing again. Wouldn't mind playing Gaelic Football again but not sure that a comeback at 40 is going to happen...

I played 3 years for St Ives up here in Sydney, but there was no real progression to any level of senior footy at that time. I still love to kick a footy, and when (if!) I go for a walk with the missus I have to take one with me to bounce and kick to myself along the way. If there was a chance for mid 30's, unfit half-arsed blokes to get back into it I'd be all over it.

There's probably a bit of room on Richmond's list, only
your age would rule you out

Played heaps of junior footy and then played senior footy in the Eastern Suburban Churches league at the age of 17. I was still at school and playing footy paid better than my part time job. Don't let the "churches" bit fool you - it was a tough initiation to senior football (and life) and there was at least 1 all in per game. Played 3 seasons and then gave it away to concentrate on work, study and cricket.

I played Senior footy in the Essendon District League for a few
years before moving to NSW in my late teens. This was in the mid
sixties and from memory in the Essendon Senior team only Alex
Epis (WA) didn't come from the local district. How things
have changed. Some of the guys scorned playing for Essendon and
preferred the local league and the pie nights

I could buy the alcohol for them after the game

Played about 12 years senior footy and a year coaching - one flag from one go but then life got really busy. It's a single, young man's game and I read gregorywannabe's story with amazement.

Played juniors from 6 years old right up until i retired 2 seasons ago at 33. My old man played up until his early 40's but my body couldn't stand up to that. Also found it pretty difficult to play golf the next day with the usual bumps and bruises after a game. Funny thing is that being an office worker i actually miss going to training... a good release valve to blow of some steam, get fit and to have a kick of the footy without worrying about injuries from backing into a pack or all those 'brave' (stupid!) things i used to do !
|
|
I don't know about the club you were at, but if I wanted to go down and just train they would let me...maybe you could do that if you REALLY miss it.
|
|
Played a few games in the EFL for Montrose in a one year
attempted comeback.
|
|
haha, so did I in 1991. Then in 1992 I trained with Collingwood and in 1993 I tried my luck at Fitzroy. Nominated for all three drafts and nobody picked me up! I played mainly in defence, but in an internal practice match down at the Lions in '93 I was shifted forward and kicked 6 on Paul Roos ! I was sure I'd get picked up after that, I mean who kicks 6 on the All Australian CHB and Captain and doesn't get drafted??! I'm not bitter at all, and whenever I see Paul now I always remind him of it.
(I reckon I've kicked 8 goals in my life, 6 of them were that

Gave him a good old fashioned towel up mate!!
|
|
did I mention that it was in just under a half of footy?
he must have been drunk or something.
