Another winger for the Tah's

The ARU and Waratah's have signed Tahu for next year...proabably a far better purchase than Wendell was but I can't help thinking the only reason these guys are getting bought is to take the shine out of the NRL centenary next year.

The funniest is the bleating from blokes like Vautin and Gould who have very short memories when it comes to the history of the ARL vs ARU war.

He'll be a #13 and probably will see a little time on the wing.

I assume the Waratahs bought him because he can catch a ball, they just need 14 more of them and they'll be ok. wink.gif

You know I now support the Crusaders so that doesn't hurt...I'm applying for NZ citizenship and moving to Christchurch too...

I'd say the next buy will be Eric Grothe Jnr...

No difference between our countries really Mike...you just do your shopping in the Pacific Islands and we do ours in the west of Sydney wink.gif

ahhaah - very good.

He's an interesting signing, no doubt with third party contributions. QLD with very little corporat support simply can't compete, and soon the Brumbies won't be able to either.

Tahu did say he was only interested in playing with Lote.

Anyway whats your thoughts so far on the 5/8 situation Moe...I still like Barnes but Cooper so far has done more than Beale. Hard to really judge fairly though until they're put behind better packs.

depends what style of game they play.

Huxley would have to be the front runner for the backup role, but only if Connolly employs an expansive game plan (which he should, given the quality of our forwards)

Cooper is sensational, but like Beale you wouldn't want either of them coming on in a crunch World Cup game and direct traffic around the park, they just don't have it yet. Much like the 2003 World Cup final when Gits showed that all the talent in the world won't teach you to direct your side out of trouble, especailly behind a pack getting hammered.

I'd love to see Lachy Mackay come back from injury as he has the kicking game we need, otherwise I'd probably go with Barnes or Huxley as the backup to Larkham.

Cooper and Beale still have that instinct to run the ball out of trouble, that would have served them well at junior level - but with the big boys, its not quite as easy.

Don't worry mate, I'll give you the field at the WC and I get the AB's, one case of Macs or Monteiths good enough? smile.gif

why is this year any different?

The AB's at the World Cup are like Greg Norman in majors.

Was having a chat to my old man and my brother about it last weekend...the kiwi's would proabably do very well sending the Crusaders to the WC...much the same as Randwick in the 70's and 80's. The time together as a unit could be the edge they need to overcome the self doubting.

We'll have a bet for sure but I won't be mortgaging the house...

There is something in the air this time... and even Norman won two majors wink.gif

I've thought of a few more purchases...

Carl Webb (a bit of front row agro and pretty mobile)
Eric Grothe or Matt Cooper (considering Ryan Cross can find holes either of these two would be dynamite)
Hazem El Masri (86% conversion rate last year...that's better than Wilkinson/Carter/Fox/Lynagh)

any others who could have a go...

Can you get Willie Mason so I can see Jerry Collins smash him and send him home crying to his mum biggrin.gif

that would be fun to watch...just can't stomach the thought of Willie in union though.

I've thought of a few more purchases...

Carl Webb (a bit of front row agro and pretty mobile) -

too small, and too dumb

Eric Grothe or Matt Cooper (considering Ryan Cross can find holes either of these two would be dynamite) -

Ryan Cross doesn't find holes, Giteau puts him through them wink.gif

Hazem El Masri (86% conversion rate last year...that's better than Wilkinson/Carter/Fox/Lynagh)-

Get's a bit harder when you start having to kick penalty goals from 40m+ in windy Wellington

I think Grothe would be a decent buy, if ever a winger gets isolated you'd back Grothe to stay on his feet for a while.

Someone like Fitzgibbon could have been a pretty handy openside flanker. It really is a different game though, and outside backs are the only ones that can make a successful switch without a Union background.

my tongue was firmly planted with Webb Moe...you're right about the difficulty a forward would have switching codes but mate could they really be much worse than some of the current forwards?

I do however think El Masri would be a bloody good buy.

Ben Kennedy would've been a killer backrower.

Ben Kennedy would be a superb #8 or #6 if he could learn the patterns of play and get the desired body height at the breakdown.

El Masri would be the worst winger that ever strapped on a boot for a Super 14 side, and the difference is converting tries and kicking penalties is significant. When comparing % kicking, I think you'll find the likes of Wilkinson and Carter are up over 90% for try conversions - its the sideline penalties from 45m+ that they occasionally miss!

I'm not even sure Johns or Lockyer would be any good to be honest, the games are just too different.

I didnt know they still played rugby.

Which one Ben...League or Union? If its League I'll bring this up again in a couple of years and you'll be right.

huh.gif laugh.gif You are joking,right?

NO ohmy.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif

Nothing beats the paranoia from a league supporter though...and I'm not referring to you...more like Vautin, Gould et all.

Did you see Vautin last thurs night have his spray at Lote? The only bloke who agreed with him was Wille Mason which tells you something.

joking about what??

That Joey and Lockyer wouldn't be much chop at Union.

Lockyer would be a good fullback, but League inside backs wouldn't know what to do with themselves in Union.

Nah Moe...I think it was me saying League will be all over in a few years.

Is this like a prime time sport still? I think I've seen it on late night TV, after the TV shopping shows.

it will survive for a while yet, the bogan breed is still alive and kicking.
