Just wondering if there is anyone left, especially in Melbourne, that still thinks pouring millions of taxpayers dollars down the F1 Grand Prix drain is a good idea. Espeically with all the inconvenience and traffic snarls it causes around it.

An event such as this brings millions of dollars into the Victorian economy and more than pays for itself.

Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US

A more objective view suggests those economic studies are completely BS - along with the attendance figures. Even Treasury officials have apparently been heard to mutter privately that the economic impact studies are deeply flawed.

$%#@ - that bite nearly dragged me out of the boat.

Money could be wasted on far worse things.

But - back on topic

IMO - the GP has reached the point where it is taken for granted and the general populace have become blase about it.

Most of the people that would go for interest value have had a look in the past and aren't in that much of a hurry to go again.

I still haven't been, and it's on my "Must Do" list... along with the Spearmint Rhino. Thankfully the missus hasn't got any interest in either.

When is it?

I'm interested to see how Webber goes with Red Bull.

I'm interested to see how the teams are looking, and how the competition will be with Michael Schumacher now on holidays with his family.

I'm not interested enough to pay cash to go an see it though.

I can see it out the window as I type this - its so ferking boring. Those noisy cars just keep going round, and round, and round...

Not interested in going now, had a FOCA pas one year (pit access) and therefore have no interesting in pleb admission.

PS I watched the race on TV after the start.

Never been...never watched it...zero interest. I'd rather watch the heats of the syncronized swimming.

I love F1 but have never actually been to Melbourne GP...shocking!

I have no idea on the financial status of the event, and I don't really care...either way Australia needs a G.P. and it may aas well be in Melbourne.

down and out…did ya get that?

Why do we need one? Its not as if its a sport?

I guess you consider fishing a sport?

Motor Racing is very demanding and F1 drivers would be among the fittest sportsman going around.

Don't know if that's a serious question, but it's on this weekend.

I'm not the slightest bit interested. I have a colleague over from Belgium at the moment that will be attending, and he can't believe that I've never been, considering how close it is. I tell him that I just don't give a toss about motor "sport".

I'll be much happier out watching the first round of VGA pennant on Sunday.

No fishing is a pastime, but what has this got to do with the Grand Prix?

Im sure there are plenty of fit fishermen as well.

If you don't consider Motor Racing and especially F1 a sport then do you consider Downhill Skiing or Bob sled a sport?

Both are extreme activties but aren't even close to the demands placed on the body whilst driving an F1 car.

In all cases the occupant is essentially going for a ride. But without input it's going to turn out nasty.

Why don't they have it at Phillip Island and let Lindsay Fox pay for it?

Cannot pharking wait !!!

BRING IT ON !!!

Kimi all the way !

I love it and have for years.

Its an enjoyable weekend with the glitz and glamour that is f1.

For me its either a McLaren or Ferrari. If I was to pick one it would be Ferrari and Felipe Massa taking the win. But good luck to my Sauber boys! Good form in Winter testing.

I don't know how accurate these predictions are for others, but for the hotel I work at it is a fantastic boost. We have 2 teams stay here (Super Aguri & BMW Sauber) & rooms that normally sell for between $140 - $200 per night are going for $550 - $700 and we have a minimum 4 night stay. Plenty of rich Europeans payed for rooms last night they weren't even in (arriving today).

March is our most profitable month of the year by quite a long margin due to the Grand Prix and I would love to see it continue for ever.

The motor racing is simply peripheral to that for me and I couldn't care less about it. smile.gif

I've minimal interest in motor sport, but the rev heads seem to like F1 so good luck to them. Glad it's not in my town though.

Kimi

Is it a girls race this year?

Has anyone notice that when Ron Walker or others involved with the Grand Prix talk about Bernie Ecclestone, they always refer to him as "

Mr

Ecclestone"!

FFS, the bloke is a car promoter, not the flippin Prime Minister! Anybody that looks like a cross between Andy Warhol and a Thunderbird character does not deserve to be caled "Mister".
