Kiwis off to a strong start in game 1, but does anyone really care? It's really Australia A vs New Zealand at the moment.

From cricinfo:

"One more wicket and we're into the tail. The lack of depth in Australian cricket is being brutally exposed by this new ball attack," says Mark.

after Australia were 2 down with Hodge, Watson and White to follow...these Kiwis are pretty cocky!

Haven't seen any vision but apparently Bond is moving it all over the place. He is one bowler that seems to really have the wood over us...

bond does average 18 i think so hes no mug with the ball , and no i dont really care bout the game i prepairing for the world cup

Bond is one of the best bowlers in the World and causes not just Aust. problems but he always seems to lift another cog against us wink.gif It's a pity he has missed so many games over the years through injury as it's always great to see a bowler swing a ball at pace.

The Aust. are definitely under the pump at the moment and with no Ponting to depend on this series will be tough for the Aussies.

Interesting to see them open with Haddin.

3/51 off 21.

Cam white probably has a moderate level of interest.

Why pick him in that, and not in the world cup squad?

And why pick Tait in the World Cup squad and leave him out of the initial squad for NZ?

Some very odd selections...

Interesting to see them open with Haddin.

They didn't, he batted 3. Hayden and Jacques opened.

The wicket is seamimg all over the place -150 could well be enough. McGrath could get 10 for on this deck.

Great idea picking Jacques when he's out of form. Seriously, the selection policy is totally baffling!

Have to agree.

And Haddin at number 3, you have to be kidding.

What happened to the wonder boy Watson, why didn't he open. And White batted above him.

I really do not know what the selectors are attempting to do.

But I think I have worked it out, all the players put their names in a hat and draw out the batting order. Would not surprise me if Hussey and Hayden opened the bowling now.

If Watson isn't going to open the batting then he shouldn't be playing. The whole time he was batting it looked like he was in the nets just blocking balls at fielders. At least when White got out there he was scoring off just about every ball and looking to hit gaps in the field, he was very unlucky to get out, that catch was arse!
Very ordinary pitch as far as batting goes, it seamed all over the place for the whole 50 overs.

NZ should win pretty comfortably but it won't be easy facing McGrath on that wicket.

They have obviously lost the plot.

Gilly will not be there at the start of the World Cup, so why not find an opener now.
Jacques is not even in the squad, so what is the point of playing him, especially to open.

If Haddin is going to open in the WC, test him against NZ. Same if they intend to use Watson or Hodge.

Maybe they are just trying to protect the wonder boy. Another stellar innings by Watson, I see.

Oh, and Hayden continued his current form.

If there is a bit in the deck, would love to see Tait playing.

Will be a lot resting on Ponting's shoulders in the WC.

I can just see it now - Hayden will crack a ton against Scotland and declare he is back in form. Aussies will win by 150 runs and will reinstate themselves as favourites again.

Might as well have - twas in to bat in the 2nd over !!

Not a great deck and an absolute sht of a gale blowing through the capital. The rugby 7s last week and Super14 has really interfered with pitch preparation. Goddamn I hate rugby in February!

A few of the Aussies made to look silly by Bond. Do critics in Aussie seriously talk of replacing Gilchrist with Haddin?

Black Caps might struggle in the run chase. Last time they batted on this pitch Lasith Malinga smashed them; all out for 78 just before the tri-series.

Ahh Hux - was wondering when you would show up tongue.gif

Those that have short memories do wink.gif

Hux, you're not related to David hicks by any chance? tongue.gif

We really struggle when the ball is moving around a bit...it really amplifies technique deficiencies that many of the top order have.

Aus All Out 148.
Hussey 42
Hodge 22
Hogg 20

Bond 5/23

NZL 0/63 (14.2 overs)

YAWN!

Watto to the rescue - first 2 overs only costing 16 runs - good start (he's our man).

Maybe we can throw the ball to Tom Williams - apparently he does a better job than Watto does ohmy.gif

edit: quote from cricket website:

The Black Caps are racing away with this game, nothing has gone right for Australia. Fielding is down and they are missing catches and look nothing like the number one team in the world.

mitchell johnston. send him back with tait! seriously our bowling looks to be lacking mongrel and penetration. put those two with watson and bracken and it all looks fragile.

very ordinary

putt,putt,putt,pftt.

Top call - i like your style!

Shane Watson is a corpse with pads. He is also a pie chucker.
Kerry O'Keefe said on the ABC the other day that in racing terms Watto keeps drawing Barrier 1 and getting a rails run.
Piss him off!!!

Symonds injury has caused mass panic amongst the selectors it would seem, they can't figure out how to cover him.

They should have just replaced Symonds with Hodge and done nothing else. Clarke, Hodge and White would then have to cover 10 overs between them and they can play 4 quicks - Lee, McGrath, Johnson/Tait, Bracken.

Cam White's stats should be ignored really. He came in a few times in the 46th over having to slog. Basically, he did his job pretty well, and didn't play in a loss!!

By batting Watson at 7 below White today, the selectors are clearly showing that they plan on batting Watto at 7 in the World Cup, which I think everyone agrees is a mistake.

I know everyone has said it, but I will again. If Watson doesn't open, there is no spot for him.

I would also like to see Hodge get a chance to open when/if Symonds comes back. Hodge/Gilly would be a great opening combo IMO.

That's the biggest arse whipping i've seen Australia handed to them in recent memory.

Not a hope in hell we'll even get close to winning the world cup.

The selectors have just had their nuts knocked off and handed to them on a plate.

sad.gif

Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US

Yeah I agree, apparently. our first 10 wicket loss. Surely the Windies have given us a bigger hiding?...please?

I guess we feel like the Poms did on Australia Day...and they came back and won. Just trying to be positive laugh.gif
