If ASADA had any common sense .
|
|
I reckon ASADA knows who supplied the drugs and probably you do as well as implied in the news. If people want to take drugs they will find a way no matter how many people are arrested.
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |
|
If the Cronulla Sharks were on performance enhancing drugs in 2011 they should ask for a refund – they came 13th out of 16 teams. Maybe the other teams were on better quality drugs ?

The media is reporting that the so called peptides that have been administered were not on the WADA agency banned list at the time they were taken. How does this put the Sharks in so much poo poo? Can they retrospectively issue suspensions if they are eventually added to the list?
|
|
No they weren’t on the band list, but they also weren’t approved to be taken…..... Massive grey area, but that’s WADA’s rules: if they aren’t approved, can’t be taken!! They players still shouldn’t be help accountable if you ask me, but they will be!!
grooveless, the only way to play golf…… now a ’groove-snob’, and never going back!! :) |

Personally the club should be pulled from the comp they cant take the feild and look thier fans in the eye sacking coaches and physios huh??? GEEZ its the players on the juice not the coaches/Physios
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

They’re going to struggle. Already having sponsorship issues and it will only get worse if they lose a majority of their team.
|
|
They were not specifically mentioned as it takes time and new drugs come out too frequently. However, WADA has a number of catch all phrases to cover drugs that produce similar effects to existing banned drugs

One thing for sure that I have suspected all along with football players (not all I must ad but many) they are not bright!! You listen to other athletes speak and most of them are reasonably intelligent, you listen to these bafoons and you soon realise many of them are not bright. Players know when they are on the juice! you either start to see an advanatge in training loads. or you get faster or bigger – YOU get something for mine its the players that know. I dont buy the crap Essendon are pedalling out that players didnt know either for that matter Its like the cronulla thinks sacking these people will somehow get the players a lesser sentance? The NRL….why havent they pulled the team This whole – its Asada running that part of it and we are doing our bit I have to say that ASADA has been terribly slow and they have grandstanded themselves by waiting tillthe season opener to bring all of this to the fore…maximise negative publicity – I get that It wouldn’t suprise me if Essendon will cop it just before round 1 also….I suspect Asada will be at windy hill again just before round 1 but really its a joke that a team will run out where half the team cheated!! sorry thats wrong wrong wrong how can you stand down the coach yet the player that pumped the juice into thier veins are allowed to play??

I reckon the reason why no player has been sacked is because ASADA has no physical evidence that they cheated. There isn’t any positive drug tests available. They are relying on evidence of an insider who says that certain things were taken. That’s why ASADA is agreeing to the 6 month bans instead of the full two years – ASADA will hope some of those taking the reduced ban will roll over on others. As for ASADA being slow, the reason for that is again they have very little evidence. They are playing this out through the media because journo’s hunting for a story will do half their investigation for them.
As a cricketer the Coverdrive was the hardest shot to master. As a golfer, I can achieve it with frustrating regularity. |

good points and I agree no test….hmm lawyer gets involved. I still the the NRL has been pathetic on this issue suspend the club I say untill they can show they are clean, itys clear the players cheated, why would the board sack half the training staff? I think its very poor that a team can play this weekend that is clearly cheated. what I want to see is Asada name the people that supplied the drugs….name them

I don’t know what to think of the drug issue, particularly in the NRL. On one hand they elevate a confessed drugee into the NRL Hall of Fame and then go all out against the players on a crazy witch hunt. Is it possible for players to front up week after week at training and in competition without some extra assistance to promote recovery. It must be doubly hard for those selected in rep teams to honour commitments to both camps and deal with injury issues.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

In some ways I agree BUT ask yourself this if someone is holding a needle and they are about to stick it into me …UM mate I will take that syringe and I will have it full tested thanks BUT then there is no test for peptides so it goes back to square one I’m a drug and lcohol counselor and it never ceases to amaze me what people will just stick into their body….many athletes are no different..they wont question the bloke holding the syringe they are told this will help you become a star – sadly they believe the bloke holding the syringe…. this worries me more than the peptide itslef that they somewhow think that drug is legal or safe dumb!

How is it dumb to do what the experts hired by your club tell you to do? We’re not talking about athletes buying it off some guy on the street. The point of having coaching staff is that they tell the players what to do. Who would they supposedly go to with the syringe they’ve just taken off their coach to get it tested?

Its dumb not to ask. I would be dumb not to ask – hey has this been passed by asada ? Show me the paperwork where asada say this is clear. If a physio is giving you a drug you have every right to ask. You can also google what they give you. You have to ask. Saying i didnt know isnt a defense you can use…....thats crap! And every cheat would use that if that was the case…. Swimmers often get colds (germs from being in pools) They check with asada. You can actually pick up the phone and call them. I have callled them to ask about substances local gyms use…we had a group using. The steroid trade amongst local gyms is huge…we approached them from an education point of view. Out of 5 guys identified 3 gave up using.

A bit like an MSDS in industry. Have all allowed substances that are approved by ASADA listed on the wall or an easily accessible file or dossier.

agree completely
Got nothing. |
|
How many people go to the Doc, then the chemist and take whatever they are prescribed without question….....for me theres not much diff. If an ‘expert’ instructs or advises – most listen and follow instructions.
Got nothing. |

It’s a team sport. The players are all employees of a club. There’s no scope for players to exercise their free will. There has been a breakdown in the systems of the clubs, not the players. Could you imagine how defiance would be treated by a club (similar to most employers)? Scenarios: Hey trainer, I’m not going to let you rub me down until you can prove that the liniment you’re using is Australian made. Hey trainer, I’m not going to let you strap me until you can prove that the bandage has been sterilised. Hey trainer, I’m not going to take the vitamins that you’ve put out for everyone until you provide a stat dec about every pill in the dispenser. Hey club uniform provider, I’m not putting my uniform and boots on until you can satisfy me that it wasn’t made by kids in sweatshops. Ridiculous.

a couple of points taht i think relevant to this conversation. Its not steroids that they are taking so they arent going to get pumped up with extra muscle. these substances are more aimed at healing muscle injuries quicker at least one of the substances being investigated is administered in the form of a cream, similar to dencorub. Now i agree that if someone is about to stick a needle in you or give you a pill that you would be wanting to know what was in it. But if the physio rubbed some type of linament on your leg, would you bat an eyelid. Not sure many would, although they will now The crime commission has the evidence in form of phone taps however they are unable to use it due to the way it was obtained. so they are hoping that someone will roll over and throw their hands up so that they have actual evidence that they can use. I think the sharks players would be wise to say nothing, admit to nothing and let the authorities prove that there was some wrongdoing, because I’m not sure that they will be able to do that
|
|
for a start you wouldnt test positive from linment rubbed into your skin players must ask they must treat thier body as their own

Missed the point Dave. If strict liability attaches to the player it doesn’t matter what question they ask or whether the trainer told them it was dried unicorn tears. Further, even if it did mean something, it’s that long ago how would a player remember what conversations were had before taking their scoobie snacks?

Latest news from their Pres is that the Sharks are favourites for the Sydney Cup.

What a freaking stupid vet giving horse drugs to a shark. Where does this guy have a surgery, I will never take my horse there.
|

You do have the right to refuse. Players are not robots or science rats…asada places responsibility with the players. If we just blame dank or physio or doctors it means players will just take everything then blame someone else.
