Sport At The Highest Level ......... I’m Over It.

On the back of the latest news of “non tanking” and also the revelations now coming out about our Olympic swimmers ….... I think I’m pulling the pin on my interest in organised sport. The AFL,.. those hypocritical bastards, came out yesterday and again said “tanking doesn’t exist”, yet they suspended two guys and fined a club half a mil, based on the fact that they acted “prejudicial to the interests of the game” The AFL are the ones who created and then dangled the carrot of early draft choices before everyone, and then act all shocked and surprised when someone actually decides to take a bite of it? Who is the AFL to say they acted prejudicial to the game’s interests ….... when they themselves set this whole thing in motion. What they should have done, is found out who, within their own ranks, came up with this carrot in the first place, who signed off on the priority pick, and then held them accountable. .... they were the root cause of it all, what Melbourne did was just the effect. To my knowledge the only thing Melbourne did was to play “guys out of position”. Are they going to watch every single game, and when a side loses ….... scour the video to see who played where, and then take action if they feel a coach made a wrong move? They have created a huge can of worms here, but most are completely ignoring the fact that there is still the major carrot dangling ….. the draft. The draft itself is still based on teams finishing positions, so when clubs are no longer able to make the finals, it’s still in their interests to finish lower than the next team, so that they can have the choice of picks over a rival … so pick 4 instead of pick 5 … nothing has changed. How can the AFL, expect clubs not to go for draft positions, when they offer no incentive to win, once the teams are mathematically not able to make the finals. Each year players are sent for early surgeries, and coaches speak of giving young players experience …. yet is this not exactly the same thing? Give me and the sporting public a break from your bullshit. The pre season NAB Cup is absolutely rife with tanking annually where some teams barely have one senior player on the park. In summary on the AFL …... nothing has changed since yesterday, aside from Melbourne being the latest scapegoat for the AFL, and Demetriou leaving his 2nd in charge to front the media like the hypocritical coward that he is …..... and the 16 clubs still don’t have two testicles between them to challenge the pricks and take them to court. Onto swimming now, and our team were allegedly busy fighting, drinking, and doing drugs, and generally misbehaving whilst at the Olympics . and team officialdom did little if anything about it, according to one former Olympic swimmer and now well known sports reporter ….... who has dubbed the London Games “the lonely games” due to there being no “team” … just a bunch of individuals who wore the same outfits. We pay good money via our taxes for these dickheads to go swanning over there to compete, and they basically just use it as a chance to party ….... and the officials do nothing. Sorry, but you’ve lost me forever. Then you have cycling …......... Onto cricket now …..... and you currently have the Selectors resting players and a “rotation policy” in place. Does this not sound like tanking? Guy’s incomes and their future careers are at stake as the Selectors play Russian Roulette with the team and people’s lives on a weekly basis, and guys who are playing for the country at the moment …... could walk down the street and wouldn’t be recognised by their own families, let alone the sporting public. You then have horse racing, which is known for it’s “colourful identities”, and dubious practices. Each race there are probably only a few horses who are actually out there to win, while some are just there to have a run …. yet people are not informed of this when placing a bet, but within the industry it’s common knowledge who is out to win, and who is out there for a trot. Surely tanking is rife in every single horse race. I now have some serious suspicions that this whole Black Caviar thing, is a publicity exercise by the Racing body to get bums on seats. While the horse itself may not be Lance Armstrong in disguise ….... it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a year or two from now, we found out it’s competitors were being given backhanders by the racing body to not “try too hard”. Since Black Caviar came into prominence, there is certainly been a huge influx of both interest and cash into the industry ….. and where there’s money in sport, corruption certainly isn’t far away. As I stated at the start, I think I’m pretty much over sport at the highest level these days. You’ve got nothing but a bunch of officials who couldn’t make it in the real world, that are just tainting and corrupting sports ….... and then too many people who are cheating across a whole range of sports …..... to know who is actually playing fair or not. Is it just me, or are others also feeling the same?

GPJ…do you have trust in anybody, or in any thing. Do you trust in yourself?
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

He trusts in me Razz, that should be enough.
What is this golf game you talk of? |

The Gov throws $5 mill at one person to get a gold medal, yet Wally brings home 3 Grammy’s and it cost him all his own money! He did more for our culture with one song than a gold medal. Just sayin,,,,,

Hi Raz …........ At times I do trust others, probably more often than not, but with the one proviso ... so long as I know them. I believe I can trust the people I know personally …. but those that I don’t know personally, I’m finding out all too frequently, that most are a pack of untrustworthy souls …........ eg your politicians, sports people, current affair show hosts, etc. Time and again I witness examples of the likes of politicians and sports people and administrators lying, or being deceitful ….. and it just “pisses me orf” as they say. As for trusting myself, like the rest of the trust issue, I tend to trust myself until proven otherwise …....(thinking about standing over a golf ball now) ... I trust myself to hit the shot at hand, but somtimes I find that I’m not worthy (of that trust). I do tend to give myself a 2nd chance though, cause I know my intentions are good …..... whereas with others who break my trust, I can never be sure what they’re intentions really are..

And speaking of “trust”, what’s that saying …... ....... In God We Trust. All well and good if you believe in a higher being, but even as we speak, the Catholic agents of God, the “Cardinals” ........are all doing a ring around to try and lobby for votes, in order to get the coveted job of Pope …... oh ….... in between burning incriminating documentation in regard to “altar boy” abuse over the years. You would think though …... that being a supposedly pious, charitable and religious bunch, they would not be thinking of “thyself” ..... yet they are out there now trying to drum up support, and are lobbying harder than any NRA spokesperson.

GPJ…it is hard not to be cynically manipulated by the media, it is what they do. Be strong and resist, especially with sport- don’t let them taint it for you.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

I think the adage you are looking for “Is the Pope Catholic?”

Hi GPJ, wanted to let you know I made it through the whole thing. I don’t believe Melbourne tanked by the way, if they had they would have put a whole lot more thought in to their selections. Nothing against Jack Watts, he’s a serviceable player, probably in the top half of the players in his team. But there are minimum 10 guys who should have been taken before him in ‘08.

casuse and reaction OK what we have seen in the last maybe ten years is athletes being paid a shit load of cash that they were not previoulsy paid but being paid that amount of money brings pressure sponsors and clubs expect these athletes to be role models, train eat, breath and shit football or swimming or whatever ITS not healthy = physically yes for the mind NO! when players are at home eating letttuse leaves with a dash of pasta night after night the rest of 17-25 year olds (about 99% of young people) are living partying rooting and generally having a fat time like all youth should be doing – its called being young….. This creates in my view and unbalanced life. They need things that releave the pressure valve and often a bit of partying is it…. I saw pic of a swimmer with two english coppers having a laugh and thats somehow connected to not performing in the pool fitness based sports are the worst – everything you eat and drink is scutinised…match meetings, mentors, sports physcologists, skills sessions it goes on and one and frankly humans were for a better word were never designed to be like that….ITS unhealthy coaches need to put fun back into the lives of athletes, they actually need to release the pressure valve somewhat and the media and us fans blogging , tweeting, facebooking, talk back radio and emails probabaly need to do the same I saw pic of a swimmer with two english coppers having a laugh and thats somehow connected to not performing in the pool..UM sorry thats what atheletes need more off! humans need to laugh and have fun… being paid a shit load of money to play sport sounds great doesn’t it untill you see the sacrifice you will need to make and the pressure you will be under….no thanks We expect our athletes to be robots….and that will never work
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

I know Brock McLean is sick of it. He leaves Melbourne because he didn’t agree with them tanking but decides to go to Carlton which everyone knows tanked to get Matthew Kruezer. Weird logic.

That’s a hindsight thing. I think you’ll find out of all 16 clubs they were all going to take either Jack Watts or Nic Nat.

|
I believe they thought Nic Nat would take longer to develope and thats why they didnt take him Watts has been a disaster – and he might become a good solid player but he will never be a gun player ok tanking- The afl has no one to blame but themseleves they designed a system that encourages blatant cheating they have removed the priority pick I really think have a lottery system with a few rules you cant win the lottery 2 years in a row…so if you win the number 1 you cant win it the following season I also belive the lottery should be done at about round 16-17 we know then who the good teams are, this would encourage teams that to keep trying late in the season…. our current system blatantly encourages cheating
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |
