I have seen so man red cards were players act, goals given thatb were not goals handballs not paid I reckon if we had video in soccer it would take it 30 seconds maybe 4 or 5 times a game thats two minutes! personally I think the game is open to corruption by refs with no video system also players cheating with subtle pushes and handballs not paid when players cheat also can someone else tell me why thwere is only one ref on the park….. I remember seeing perth glory shafted by a ref australias world cup game v Italy blatant cheating by players diving over thin air….. tthoughts?? I mean how long can this crap go on….

There’s not much you do like is there mate??
Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head |

The linesmen also have a say on any offence that has occurred. If the centre ref injures himself, generally the linesman closest to the clubhouse, steps into their spot. I’m old school so take video out of the equation in all codes. Videos can’t rule on players intention. Was the dive / fall intentional or unintentional, was the hand ball accidental or not? Video ont tell you that.

there is – dont judge me on that I love sports that move with time and realise when rules need changing… I love AFL despite the latest findings – I think they are brave enough to use it to get rid of the howler… soccer is game thats often decided on one or two crucial calls (especially late in games when players will go for a dive) why not spend 1 minute looking at that replay to get it right
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

In Football the ref has the final word not a camera simple as that he is the boss and you only need 1 boss on the park. and you may get 1 out of 10 games where they get it wrong enough to change the outcome of a game there only human. Football is the greatest game in the world and its fine how it is. Imo…. cheers .

Some sweeping statements in that …......... It is time that football/soccer/synchronized diving got with the 21st century and took advantage of what is on over. Be that by limited challenges from the field aka cricket or whatever means is choosen…. You see to many games these days with dodgy decisions in them not to use what is available…....... As to Football is the greatest game in the world and its fine how it is. you have to be kidding…......

Problem is that unlike League, AFL, American Football, Cricket etc. Soccer doesn’t stop, it’s a continuous sport. If there is a suspect handball that isn’t paid, then the question is “When do you hold up play?” if the ball is in play, and the opposition gets a breakaway but you call it back to look at the video then the defence is fully set when you start it up again. I am all for technology on the goal line, as those decisions are ridiculous, and maybe a review option for penalties (if called the captain can review it) but everything else is fine.

Major penalties there is a stoppage for, not rocket science to review the decision to make sure it is right and not some body getting tired and falling down…... Red card decisions could also be reviewed….. The list goes on Use what is available but limit the number of challenges if that appeases the skeptics…........

Dumbest “game” ever…..90 boring minutes and no result….what a farce…no skill whatsoever…..and seems to be highly corrupt, violent fans …I don’t get it AT all.
Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem. |

Its shockingly corrupt at the top, thats what ultimately put me off the game years ago. That and the diving, especially the time wasting towards the end of matches. If a player wants to roll around on the ground and call for the trainer to eat up more time they should introduce a 3-4 minute enforced layoff so that if its legit they can make a sub, or if its an act then the team gets punished for the attempted theatrics by playing a man down for several minutes. Reckon you’ll find players getting up a lot quicker 95% of the time. I say 3-4 minutes bc if the injury is severe enough for you to go down like youve been shot, its natural to assume it should take you 3-4 mins recovery time for the magic spray to kick in whilst you’re off the pitch ;) Also introduce independant time keepers, dont rely on the ref, Ive seen teams who can dive and writhe away 8-10 minutes of a game with their platform diving and the ref adds on 3-4 minutes of stoppage time. Also, I have to say, I havent seen another sport where inept officiating (ref and linesmen) can influence the result of games so often with bad calls. Some sort of system with limited challenges is a must. With all this talk of hundreds of games being involved in match fixing, as well as a decades long history of match fixing at the very top, how can they not? and how can fans of the game continually turn a blind eye and allow those corrupt suits at FIFA to get away with doing NOTHING! But of course nothing will be done and the status quo will continue.

as someone else said – takes 30 – 40 seconds to look at get the call right! or people will just go youre taking the piss! and yes this might actually stamp out corruption hang on second though FIFA is full off corrupt people..how are world cup cities chosen…. I mean why would they introduce a system that would exspose the game as being full of corrupt people

I rest my case…corrupt admin and a stupid game

FIFA is the most corrupt organisation on Earth, that is definite. I won’t deny that, but also you have to look at what is happening to the players in these scenarios where they “dive”. Where do you draw the line? Do you review EVERY play the guy falls over? How about the plays where they DON’T fall over? A lot of the time players go down because they have been impeded. Sometimes they haven’t. The problem is that if the player does not go down, the free kick often won’t be awarded. For example, if a defender grabs a players shirt to hold him back the attacker is being impeded. Often the referee won’t blow the whistle for this unless he hits the ground. Of course a pull on the shirt is not going to cause you to fall over, but it’s definitely against the rules. Are you going to say that the attacker should just cop that and get on with it? That’s not fair. It is especially not fair when a goal means so much, unlike other codes where there are plenty of “goals” each game. Football is played with the feet (unlike every other “football”) and therefore the entire sport is essentially concentrated around your lower body. Your legs are not designed to be hit like your upper body is. In Rugby League, Union, NFL, AFL etc all the big hits are concentrated on the upper body. This is how humans are designed to withstand impacts and as such they don’t get hurt when it happens. However, what would the reaction be in Rugby League if a winger is running down the sideline, and the fullback comes flying in at full pace, dives feet first straight at the wingers ankle and takes him out? Do you think it would be accepted? Hell no! It was actually such a problem in the NFL that they banned all attacks on the Quarterback below the waist. People do simulate, that is a given, people do put on the theatrics when they go down. This is mostly in the foreign leagues though, not so much in the A-League. Australians don’t put up with that, and the foreigners learn pretty quickly that they won’t get away with it here. The referees really do need to lift there game in Australia. Too often we put very young referees with very little experience in charge of highly charged top of the table clashes. They make mistakes and there is pretty much no ramifications for it. That really sucks. In NRL I think the ref’s can get thrown back to Toyota Cup if they mess up, doesn’t happen in the A-League. Might not have enough refs, I don’t know, but that REALLY pisses me off.

The mistake here is that you are putting soccer up as a sport. It is not a sport, it is more a form of active artform.

Not a huge fan of the game myself, but to say it involves no skill whatsoever is just flat out ignorant.

Are there any actual Australian’s playing soccer in this country? When I hear some of the names being spoken of on the wireless in regard to the A League, (whatever that is) ........ they certainly don’t sound Australian to me. . and speaking of which ….... who the hell are Pim, Han, and Holger? Lets face it, soccer is just a very boring game, and is there for those who want to go along, cause trouble, set off flares, and fight each other over some minor quibble that occurred over 200 years ago, and the other side of the world.

If they have the ball on a string …...... it’s hardly surprising then …...... that it never gets to the back of the net. Perhaps they should cut the bloody string and try kicking it all the way to the back of the net instead …...... might make it more enjoyable to watch, as opposed to them just kicking it backwards all the time…..

Dont hit the back of the net Mmmm Chelsea hit the back of it 4 times on the weekend. But thats boring and dumb lol .

I assume you are simply being provocative, but have you looked outside lately? Soccer is the only sport that actually shows a true cross section of Australia on it’s team sheets. I guess you are lucky that AFL doesn’t have weird names like: You’re also lucky that no-one ever hears about crowd viloence in AFL or Rugby League…

Wow, a whole 4 times in 90 minutes? So for 86 minutes nothing much happened then I take it?

I guess crowd violence FB is all relative …...... The term football hooliganism …. was created in relation to soccer fans was it not? .. and not anything to do with AFL or Rugby League.. Of course football holliganism ranges from mild activities such as setting off flares, and rioting, thru to the odd stabbing here and there …......... but I guess its just an excuse for the fans to get away from the boredom of the actual game itself.

4 Goals in football is the same as 10 in afl i mean in afl there is 30 yards of goal posts and you still get a point for missing. You miss in football and you get stuff all plus you got a goal keeper to get past if you saw 10 goals in every game of football then the keeper is not doing his job . to watch a great save from the keeper is as good as watching a great goal from a striker .. but each to there own man . i love both games i dont bag other games because i dont like them . i hate Cricket but im sure there is many here that love it so who am i to bag the crap out of it .

Nothing wrong with bagging it (cricket) if you feel like it Acca. (I’m sure you wouldn’t be alone in your thoughts on the game)
