Essendon seem to have taken the Adelaide Tippett response and reported to the AFL rather than the other way around hoping for a little slap. However, if any players have taken any performing enhancing substance suspension is mandatory not optional.

AND if Jobe is guilty then the AFL have a fine mess to clean up.

I am going down to Essendon tomorrow for a training run. I might get a game when the whole team gets suspended. On second thoughts, I wouldn’t play for that scum rubble.

The AFL don’t have the final say. ASADA are the controlling body of any sanctions that are handed down if at all.

The AFL don’t hold the whiphand here they take direction.

However i heard ASADA boss Richard Ings on SEN say that the penalties for players could range from severe reprimand to two years. But for sports science people it’s 4 years to life due to them having duty of care. Sort of flies in the face of what everyone has been saying. I was just wondering your thoughts on this?

but there has been cases where athletes have gotten off, a swimmer who was pescribed cough medicine and he took and he then told ASADA….after reading it was on the banned list

they tested him and low and behold it didnt show…..so they gave him a one year suspended sentance..that said that was a few years ago

Former Port Adelaide captain Warren Tredrea was offered something he wasnt sure about – he took it to a lab and said test it please!!

he had long knee injury that wouldnt go away….steroids are great for repairing injuries….

2 year ban might seem harsh but we have gone very light on penalties in the past….

Players will sue if they are guilty and possibly take restraint of trade type arguement against the AFL if banned…..it would get messy!!

and secondly Essendons injury tole …..it just rings off they were on the juice for the pre season then tapered off

when you articfially increase your body size you carry more weight – this weight will cause soft tissue injuries

they got big quick…...this resulting in stress on joints and muscles…

Now the bit that thinks they are all innocent is that Essendon came forward and offfered the information – I suggest they would have done some investigating before they made the call to public and approach ASADA

I suspect if they knew they wwere guilty they would have kept it quiet hoping like hell it all went away

Intersting today I had a meeting with local sports coaches and leaders, we are planning local intervention stratagies to assits clubs, young players know more about drugs (illicit, legal and performance enhancing)

My belief is we need to start targetting young players at local district levels….I dont mean testing

education, awarness and counselling for those that want to come forward…..this is in line with best practice in this industry

we need to start with young people now to change the future….

Now I have freind who is a former physio for Richmond – there was an ex carlton star who was team runner for that team for a while…

around 2007-2008

this guy is dodgy and was dealing amphets (according to several sources close to Richmond) .....wether he was dealing to players who knows.

I rang the AFP when I found this out (I was working for the Australian sports commission at the time and we are duty bound to report this stuff if we come across it) and informed them through a telephone call – not as an accusation but as forwarding informaton

I don t want to name him but he was investigated but these guys are clever and as soon as any heat comes on they go to ground, they run very complex operations

it was sgtronly rumoured he supplied Wayne Carey also

steroids were common in the early 90’s by AFL teams – then testing caught up and since then its a constent catch me if you can

athletes by nature are very very conficent people – getting caught really doesnt enter their mind to be honest.

There is no way Hirdy and the coaching staff can plead ignorance on this. The coach always gives the directive to the sports science ppl on what type of team and players he’s trying to put together. Some teams go for more endurance based programs to run teams off their legs, other teams go for bigger stronger heavier bodies and they try to slow down the opposition by hurting them at the contest and wearing them down as the game goes on.

He would have given his directive (which was bulk up to match the likes of Geelong, Hawks etc at the contest) and would have been told by the sports science team exactly how they were going to go about it.
