In latest new Steve Smith, Jim Maxwell, Moises Henriques and Xavier Doherty have made the Australian test squad to tour India. Join Inverarity was heard to say “Well we have no chance so we may as well take useless players over so that the games are over sooner and I get a chance to tour India during the free time”. In training news, Nathan Lyon and Xavier Doherty were seen to be having a challenge to see who could bowl the flatest and fastest and it was only when they were pitching softball style that the bowling coach came in to see if something was wrong. Batsmen were heard to rejoice that the likelihood of a ball swinging in India was less than the chance of Tony Abbott having a personality. That was until they reliased they cant play spin either. Ed Cowan & Matthew Wade were overheard having a bet on who could get out sweeping spinners off the stumps the most.

The cream always rises to top gobligook – just a pity that the cream is off. Xavier Dohety wouldn’t get a bowl in a Chinese restaurant. Inverarity did say that Nathan Lyon has a mortgage on the “first spinner picked” spot. That’s a pretty sad indictment on Australian Cricket.

Its because he now does the team song, Cover. He was a shoe in. Shame we probably won’t get to sing it much, over there.
“If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?” |

Ed Cowan never goes out sweeping spinners… He’s run himself out long before the slower bowlers are brought into the attack

Well if we keep picking squads like this one there is a chance that no one will be able to remember the words. Maybe Huss picked hime because he writes neatly and he can handover the song sheet to the next guy. I think Huss has many note able achievments in his career. His decision to handover the song to N. Lyon won’t be on that list.

I agree, and was shocked when he did.

we are going to get slaughtered by the poms
|

Slaughtered by India first… Then the poms. The only way we would be a chance to regain the Ashes is for someone like Alistair Cook to be caught with 3 transvestite prostitutes and a bag of cocaine the size of a cricket helmet. Then the Fleet Street press can get stuck into their own side instead of ours.

alistair cook should get caught 3 times but wade will drop him then cook will made 300

I have heard that David Warner has busted his thumb and the selectors are considering a back up batsman. Rumours suggest that they are tossing up between George Bailey and Bill Lawry.

wow, not much love for Nathan Lyon around here is there?? As a former finger spinner myself, I’ve gota admit I’m a big fan. Prob needs to bowl more if you ask me!! Plus he was named after a brewing company, you’s surely have to pay that some respect?? :)
grooveless, the only way to play golf…… now a ’groove-snob’, and never going back!! :) |

I would have thought Siddle would have been the logical choice for the team song.

Surely you jest. I also rolled the arm over quite slowly in my time so I try and defend the slowies when I can; but I just cannot warm to him. Just seems to lack variation, bowls way to fast and too flat and doesn’t throw it up often enough. I know that he is not going to get much sideways movement but he doesn’t appear to attack enough. I just can’t see him being around the australian side for too long.

I am with you Koiom. For me it was Sidd’s or maybe Warner. No others leap out (assuming you can’t pick the captain).

Warner is a first class c**t. I think we will do India as they are rubbish. England would slaughter that team though and probably most other we could conceivably put on the poork.

Heard a snippet on the wireless yesterday, from that “On reeks” guy. He reckons he “always knew he’d be a test player”. That makes you, and the dickhead selectors then buddy …...... cause no-one else in their right mind would have picked the plodder to go on tour. I can’t believe he is worthy of a state game, let alone playing for his country ….... He is going to go for plenty each time they bring him on to bowl, as the Indian’s are just going to love facing up to him. If there is one class of bowler that everyone just loves facing up to, ......... its the medium pacer who doesn’t move the ball around. From what I’ve seen of him ….... On Reeks only serves up two types of deliveries ….. either short and wide, or perfectly placed half volleys. If he actually gets picked in a test match and is then called on to bowl, god help us.

What shits me, is when he first came in he was actually bowling spin. He was tossing them up. Now he is bowling flatter and faster than Nathan Hauritz. May as well pick AB McDonald. He moves the ball more at the same pace and can bat better.

I remember listening to skull on the radio a few years about this really quick bowler coming through the ranks, “On Reeks”. Not to mention on the all rounder front. Hey Mr Inverarity, you actually half to be half decent at a couple of things to be an all rounder. Not f*ck, he cant bat, he cant bowl, he must be an allrounder!

There is confidence in your ability, but then there is also arrogance. He was looking good at the start of the year, but recent form doesn’t warrant selection. The selectors are looking for cover and variety, but what about actually winning the game. Maybe one to many people have watched Moneyball – picking on value, rather than current form!
Handicap, I’m working on it. – Edit: Feb 2013 still, working on it. |

Lyon did get to 50 test wickets faster than any aussie finger spinner in test history. Not sure how bowling medium pace darts that never get above eye line. Must have been the quality of the opposition or cheap tailend wickets. It is a sad indictment on cricket in Australia, shield cricket is not the breeding ground it once was.
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |

Lyon’s wickets by batting position (courtesy of Cricinfo) 1st position 2 Half of his 61 wickets are “batsmen” batting at positions 8 through to 11.

Nice research Coverdriver, as suspected, we are in for a hiding in India and the Ashes if that is the best we have got.

Not sure how bowling medium pace darts that never get above eye line. Must have been the quality of the opposition or cheap tailend wickets. I’m not sure how the research is done, but if there’s any chance of throwing up the stats for a shane warne or whatever it would be useful. At the moment, its kind of like saying taxis have more accidents. Of course they do, they’re on the road more. If he’s only bowling at the tail end, he’s only going to take tail end wickets.
Taking lack of talent to a whole new level. |

For you placegetter, Warne’s wickets by positio. 1st position 42 Batsman 8-11 is 263 wickets which accounts for roughly 37% of his 708 wickets. http://stats.espncricinfo.c...

Thanks mate, I can definitely see the disparity now. The most interesting thing there for me is Warnie had as much trouble getting the 1st guy out as he did the last guy and was 50% more successful with the 2nd than the 1st (or are they both first?) Well bowled Warnie.
