At the risk of sounding like an armchair expert, Cam Whites extended bowling spell yesterday is interesting. Maxwell is also being considered I believe.

An example of how bad the slow bowling ranks are in Sheffield Shield cricket the bowler with the most wickets is Steve O’Keefe (NSW) with 8 wickets putting him at no. 21 on the wicket taking list. http://www.sportsflash.com.au/SeriesStats.aspx?spname=CKT&compid=2794&sstats=bw There is nobody coming through the system

I have looked at any if the vision of the nsw v Vic shield game but I wonder why white bowled 20 over and took none-for and maxwell, who only bowled 6, got 2/12. But generally speaking, spinners typically don’t take too many shield wickets anyway and especially don’t before Christmas because the pitches don’t wear as fast in late spring/ early summer. It is usually in the really high temps of January when they get more of a bowl (and more success)

Lyon named so we are going into a game with 10 players again. Should be Starc or even bring in David Hussey or Steve Smith for variety. Inverarity and team are a major improvement on Hilditch and co but it seems they are locked into always selecting a traditional team structure. Are they frightened of criticism from Richie and other old fogeys (I can say that because I am one).

Yep I would have liked to see Starc get a run

A left armer also comes in handy to produce foot marks that an offie can bowl into at the other end. (And Lyon needs all the help he can get)

So far Clarke has scored about 500 runs and not been dismissed this series. What an unbelievable run of form. 4 double tons in a calendar year, with one of them a triple. Let’s hope he turns this into a triple too as the SAF batsmen will love to bat on this pitch too. Mind you with kallis unable to use a runner, that could change things. Anyone know WHY they changed the runner rule?

Ranatunga was 15 years ago, the runner rule change was mid 2011?
|

This was the turning point according to Cricinfo “In the 2009 Champions Trophy, Andrew Strauss refused to allow his South African counterpart Graeme Smith a runner after Smith had requested one due to cramps. Strauss said cramps were a side-effect of a long innings while Smith claimed runners had been granted for that reason in the past, pointing to an inconsistency in the rule’s implementation.” http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/521356.html Basically, the argument was that when bowlers were injured during a match they received no compensation so should should batsmen

Fair comparison then I suppose. Kallis proved that you can still make a 50 on one leg. And poor old Imran Tahir. Worst bowling figures in Test cricket history. 0-260 at 7 runs an over. Poor guy got a huge cheer from the Aussie crowd when brought on to bowl. Geez he bowls some rubbish though, it was like watching a club bowler being thrown to the wolves.

Great series so far
Broomsticks, Trevor Chappell and Lance Armstrong love theirs. |

This test is what the game is all about, don’t know what the odds of a draw were paying but would of been a safe bet. If DRS weren’t around maybe a different outcome? Well played both teams. Bring on the WACA

It’s was paying only $5.50 this morning before the start of play. I think the threat of rain brought the odds in a bit. An SA win was $26 – should have been $2600. Great game over all 5 days. Good effort by Faf even if it was frustrating to watch.

We paid for having Lyon in the side. 5th day pitch, heaps of runs to play with and he bowls darts. Hardly tossed a ball up all day. where was the famous loop. Hopefully he gets the arse in Perth. How good was Siddle, got up to 144k in the last few overs but I fear he won’t come up in 3 days. could end up with a very inexperienced pace battery and can only hope they get the ball on a good length all day.

Fears realised, Siddle and Hilfy both didn’t come up. Ponting’s farewell and an inexperienced attack. Can only hope Lyon is wearing the waiter’s jacket. Could be a shellacking or very exciting like the entire series so far.

Is it me expecting too much of Pete Siddle to back up and play another test a week after the last one? Surely you don’t rest your strike bowler if you want to be the #1 test side in the world. I’m sure Sids won’t have to bowl as many overs if we go in with 3 other pace bowlers. Spread the load out, Watson, Pup, Warner can bowl along with Mr Cricket. Any way good luck boys…..
