You sir, are wise, like Yoda.

There’s many a slip ’tween a cup and a lip.

He’s short and ugly, where as I am tall and beautiful, so the similarity stops at wise.

don’t knock yoda… he could have been tall, but his growth hormones were extracted for the benefit of the jedi cycling team

I didn’t have any, I swear! It was all the other Jedi’s!

No sir, I am not going to argue with you at all. I was just curious to see what your background on the medical side of things was, your studies and internet pages are more than enough to satisfy me.

One point of note though, your red blood cells do not deplete during intense activity. They have a cell life of 120 days regardless of what activity you put them through.

Carry on though, I apologise for interupting this conversation.

hey mate, no stress… it’s not like I studied to workout what supplements would kill me or not, reality is, all drugs have side effects – just not convinced all banned substances are now still banned for the original reasons they started banning in the first place?

.

but when did we draw the line with EPO? Unless you use so much your blood turns into thick shake, it’s predominately used to help you get your blood count back to where it should be after intense training/competition. So what would be the issue using it in a controlled way? Like you said, proteins, creatine, glutamine are used for muscle growth and recovery (and they don’t just duck down to GNC and pick up a tub) cortisone injections used to reduce pain… not exactly natural either is it?

Golfgeek3005, before i continue can I assume you do have formal qualifications in Medical Science or haematology?

studied medicine for a year and a half and hated it… was all good in theory until I had to meet patients, and I wasn’t emotionally equipped to deal with it…

but if you’re going to argue on this forum about whether EPO is safe or not, I’m not here to argue that (there are thousands of pages on the internet arguing that – so if you’re going to try and be an authority on it, I’ll just keep linking you to pages that discuss the same thing), it’s the arbitrary line in the sand as to what we consider illegal and then performance enhancing and how it makes an even playing field (even though, it’s never going to be even is it?)

but that is exactly it, there has been a line in the sand drawn and he over stepped it, got cancer as a result and continued to cheat his way to win.

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

mate, agree 100%... not trying to defend him… just wondering why the line was drawn there (other than people dropping dead, which is no good)...

what the reality is, even on the right side of the rules, professional athletes have access to all sorts of supplements and the like which “enhance” their performance, many of which you can’t just pick up down the road at the pharmacy…

so are they not banned because they don’t enhance your performance enough? or because they’re not dangerous to your health? Obviously all things that mask drug taking – warnies diuretics for example are also banned…

Take this for example, matter of time before it’s banned – FDA has already issued a warning – strips kilos off you very very very quickly (but isn’t a diuretic so it has no masking effect like the banned ones) and makes you higher than most party drugs… you train like a monster on this stuff… so ban? or wait for someone to die first? or let people have a go? tough call to the 1000s of people who use it day in day out….

oops… see last post, then see this: http://www.news.com.au/spor...

somehow, I think it might get banned!!

well if he is stripped of his tour de france achievements its a good thing for Australia and cadel Evens

cadel could be the moral winner out of this all

as in 2005 he finished 8th every rider from 7 th place to 2nd place have all been stripped of there standings in the 2005 tour only one that hasnt been stripped is lance armstrong.

if that changes well worse case for cadel is seconfd and cadell comes out the moral winner of 2005

Yeah, but I’m not sure he’d like people going through his old samples from 2005.. His times then were quicker than when he won the thing

Lance said in an interview this week that he was used as a scapegoat. Ummmmm….I think they have busted others before you dickhead.

On tonights Four Corners he allegedly paid other teams to allow him to win a Triple Crown in the US in 1993. It was the Thrift Drug tour…..bahahahahaha

Show up, keep up, shut up.

As soon as I saw stuart ogrady bag lance out on TV years ago in an interview – I knew he wasn’t clean. It seems like all the riders knew it but no one ever came forward

Cadel is probably crooked too.Open your eyes most of these guys on the stuff, especially recent winners.

Broomsticks, Trevor Chappell and Lance Armstrong love theirs.

8T INAROW.

I don’t know about ALL of them, in the drug era the winners just kind of sailed up the mountains, sure it still hurts like hell but day after day they could back up easier. Guys like Cadel don’t appear to have the speed the drugged guys had. He really does seem to suffer up those climbs. Just look at how much he cries :-D

I hope never to be proven wrong about Cadel, that really would shred any lingering interest I have in cycling.

No Cadel is not crooked, he could only follow a wheel up mountains, the cheats could accelerate away making the others look like they were standing still.

Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game!

he’s not thin and gaunted looking either like many of the “juicers”

contador and Armstrong looked like they were on the juice…and they were!

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

Cadel clean, theres no drugs in Australian Sport is there.

Broomsticks, Trevor Chappell and Lance Armstrong love theirs.

Dank ….

When the stakes are high people will try to cheat…

Spot on, the whole peloton has been on the gear for yrs, Team Sky see Wiggins and Froome currently have the cutting edge program :D

The year of the tiger

Oops… Sorry thought this was the essendon thread..

I am just reading the book “seven deadly sins” by David Walsh….ths chronicle of Lance Armstrong by a cycling reporter who knew lance was cheating from his first TDF in 99

he just couldnt prove it

after the Festina farce in 98 Lance was seen a breath of fresh air….a clean cut amercian who had survived cancer

It was such a feel good story…cancer survivor winning the race!!!...

we all bought it!! hook line and sinker

it bought lance freedom too…..cancer survivor brings the emotion of empathy for the guy…......

but before cancer he was just an average cyclist

the author states when someone suddenly improves in a sport it should raise the alarm

I biring it back the AFL for a moment

James Hird – Charter and drugs (during his playing career)

I think Asada should be look at Essendon’s history – over the last 10-12 years. Who was the dorctor – who was on staff – who did they hang with.

If you think AFL teams wouldnt cheat then youre burying your head in the sand

Teams in the mid 90’s and early 00’s were using peformance enhancing drugs and techniques…

It wouldnt suprise me if EPO was used..it was undectable for quite a while

Blood doping was also common because there was no testing (Italian soccer teams are still doing it!!)

From an Essendon point of view Jobe Watsons body shape and sudden massive improvment raises major alram bells and if he was a cyclists he would be target tested and watched like a hawk….he went from a good player to winning the browlow medal in a canter…..sorry that raise the alarm

Ok back to the thread The author says

we should have known Lance went from finsihing 6 minutes behind the winners in his first 4 tour de france races….in 1999 he blitzed them….

The Author is Davud Walsh – this guy pursued Lance from the first day

He asked lance in 1999 are you doping

Lances Management threatened him a number of times

So what do we need to learn from what happened (in our sports)

be very wary of sudden improvments – if it happens it needs unvestigating

The problem I see is as contracts for these guys are worth millions the guy that is maybe on the fringe of the team as they have big sqauds and not everyone rides (

He’s driving a beat up old car and his mates are driving a porsche or Lambo’s

he wants the hot wife – the house in the spanish hills….he wants that big contract

he probably knows deep down if wants those things He may need to cheat!

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

I have just finished reading this great book also and it has had me thinking about every sport ever since putting it down.

I now have serious concerns about tennis. I know Rafa has had to put up with innuendo for years but if he is doing it then so is Murray and Djokovic et al. How can these guys play for 6 hours and still be going full force at the end- besides some cramping.

Of course the tours wouldn’t want them testing positive and no doubt bribe WADA if a positive is found. Occasionally they allow a lesser light to be sent to slaughter. I have a mate who is a journalist with Auntie and at the Oz Open he was speaking to journalists who follow the tour year round and they tell of a certain female world number one who may or may not have tested positive. This player ‘retired’ for two years before coming out of ‘retirement’. Ummmm…....nah it’s not sus.

I agree

when the players are offered so much money I can see why people cheat – I dont agree with it BUT I understand why

this guy was like a dog with a bone

he knew Lance was using from day 1 and he worked for newspaper that sponsored the tour de france and his wife worked for the paper so he was on hot coals raising the drugs issue

he put his career on the line

I understand why Lance cheated – he was addicted to fame and fortune that it provided – he wanted to win and figured well i will cheat smarter than everyone else

if He hadnt come back for the last 2 or 3 tours he probabaly wouldnt have been exsposed again to the mass media – he took a massive risk in doing that IMO.

And he didn’t win those tours

I havent finished the book Seven Dealy Sins by David Walsh but I have 2 weeks off soon so will finish it then – bloody good read

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

More respect for scumbag Lance than cowards who haven`t come forward.Experts saying every winner of Tour de France was using them up till 2 years back.
