Well, if it was because of the late night at Crown in Melbourne last month, I don’t see a problem with going out late if he wasn’t even in the squad to play Italy the next day, although at least one of the other players were.

Lote like all leagies, talk the talk but can’t walk the walk. He only went to union for the money & not to get tackled/injured.

All players from all codes should be on a base salary say $50K & earn bonus money for winning games, making finals & rep selection. If they get injured they only receive half of the bonus their team earned i.e $2K for a win, $1K for a draw & nothing for a loss. If they get injured by an opposition player that player pays half of their bonus to the injured player.
All players will strive to get back from injury quicker, take less recreational drugs & alcohol, start playing the game cleaner so not to deliberately hurt opponents, & start playing the game for the fans & sponsors, not to sit on the sideline & pick up $10K a week. Money is a great motivator. I figure a test player would earn up to $300K a year, not bad for playing a sport you love. The more you achieve in the game the more you earn.

Do they get tested for these? No just the recreational stuff because thats bad for the game!

I agree about the base salary too, If you play for your country you get zip in terms of money but if anyone wants to speak to you or you to wear there aftershave they pay a premium.

That way you play from the heart with pride for your country and benefit afterwards for being a champion!

The cyclist I am afraid should be shut down because more and more are getting caught. The losers are the clean guys who dont have a good doctor/chemist working with them. Interesting Lnce is back having managed to get around his testing through being retired!?

The plot thickens. Players Union now getting involved and more interestingly have named Stirling Mortlock as one of the high profile players concerned about what has happened.

This is one to follow because it is clear that Tuqiri has not done anything blatantly wrong. The ARU would have said immediately what it was or we would have heard about it through the media or from other players.

My feeling is that they have sacked him on a technicality just to get his wages off their bills. Maybe he was a few minutes late for something. Who knows but whatever it is I don’t think this will make it to court. We’ll see the ARU making some settlement out of court and Tuqiri will go off and play in Japan or France.

True, but it sets a dangerous precedent for the ARU. Professional sportsmen have a limited lifespan. If Tuqiri was given a 3 year contract worth $1million per year, he’s banking on that being his income.

What’s important and why it’s dangerous is because the majority of players won’t be on half that amount. If they see one of their colleagues being sacked over a small technicality they might think their services (and consequently their incomes) will be more appreciated and guaranteed somewhere else. Stuff the Wallaby jersey and the ARU contract, they’ve got 10-15 years to make their money and then they’ve got to take care of themselves.

It’s a sad reality, but there it is.
