is brad haddin the worst keeper to ever done the gloves for aust.. is it just me or can this bloke only seem to concentrate for about 3 balls at a time? i rekon my mum could stop some of the balls this weak prick drops! he’s always shaking his hand like a 9 year old does in the local under 12’s in his 1st year of keeping. i know that old iron gloves rod marsh & ian healy didnt have great starts but i bet their captains didnt have to think about having a backstop to stop the byes being 2nd top scorer!

Agree he’s not a gloveman of the class of Timmy Zoehrer or Greg Dyer !! As you said everyone has bad stints, Gilly especially in the latter years and the Indian tracks aren’t easy. For many years all teams have given up some glovework for runs. I think Haddin is our best option, our main problem is the one we alays knew we were going to have, we can’t bowl sides out twice.

Haven’t seen much of Haddin’s recent keeping, so I can’t comment. He is picked on the basis that is he is the best batsman of the keepers, not the other way round and this is the way of international cricket these days. I suspect there are a number of better pure keepers in the Shield comp. They probaly don’t come from NSW though. Wether they hold the bat as well as Haddin is probably also debateable. Tiprat, who would you replace him with?

the Australian team has a number of faults bowling was not the only one last match.
T’was Brillig and the Slythy toves did gyre and gymble in the wabe |

maybe put in luke ronchi (wa) 27 yrs old seems to be the best keeper in the wings ? bats ok 1st class avg 35. haddin b is 31 yrs old 1st class avg 41 not much diff there so lets go with the best keeper.. give the younger fella a chance to develope rather than put him in when he’s 31-32.

I don’t think we have the firepower to bowl them out twice, unless the pitch gets dodgy. Then they’ll go through us in the second innings like vindaloo. I haven’t seen much of Haddin either. But as an ex keeper, any byes are soft runs. If byes are let through it’s more runs that you, as the keeper, have to score. My attitude was that if I let 4 byes through, I had to get at least 5 to be off a duck. It’s my belief that the value of the keeper has been devalued with the advent of the keeper-batsman. What’s wrong with a specialist keeper who bats number 11?

Dozzer, do me a favour, I presume you are on the tired old, “ïf you play for NSW you automatically get picked for Australia”. Are you serious, aren’t the selectors Merv, Hilditch, Boon and whoever replaced Hohns. Not too many from NSW there. There are as many South Australians and Victorians on the board as those from NSW. Nice day in Qld today?

I’m with you mate. They either need to be a Gilchrist (not the greatest keeper of all time but he could hold his place as a specialst batsman) or a specialist keeper and their batting is relatively irrelevant (they won’t make district ones with out some batting ability) Healy and Marsh are prime examples of this. Haddin wouldn’t hold his spot as a specialist batsman. They have the same problem with spinners at the moment. White bowls alright at sheild level but the step up (bowling spin to indians is a big step up!) is finding these jack of all trades type players a little wanting. Watson is only slightly better (bring back Symonds for christ sake) Although with the lack of spin firepower at the moment maybe a specialist keeper would be wasted, starved of the oppotunities that Warne (& MacGill) provided to Healy and Gilchrist. Haddin shouldn’t be making too many mistakes keeping to the quicks. In that case pick a batsman and do what we do in our club when a specalist keeper isn’t available just use the best keeper in the 11 picked. I reckon David Hussey has kept? Ronchi might be the right long term option though.

i too feel your pain dozzer welcome aboard! sabco62 totally agree with everything you say

Manou is possibly the best pure keeper, but he is too old.
|
|
2 Tasmanian selectors and Paine and Clingleffer not in the team. It’s a travesty! I agree Rohan, where’s Roy? Surely missing a training session for a few beers, a barbie and a spot of fishing doesn’t deserve the punishment he’s received. I bet he keeps alright as well.

Yeah, sorry sabco62, forgot Jamie Cox as a selector. Think your comment proves the point that there is no state bias.

Simon Katich Could’nt get into the side untill he went to the Blues,As for Andrew Simons have you seen his form this year its shit i think he’s made 3 ducks and done nothin with the ball

I think you might find that Haddin is keeping with a broken hand. He busted it in the Windies and I doubt that it has healed properly. He isn’t game to drop out for fear of someone else getting his chance
|
|
Surely if its effecting his performance then the selectors would have canned him?
|
|
Like they always say, its harder to get out of the aust cricket team than it is to get into it.
|
|
This is true. Ask Mark Taylor he spent 18 months trying.

hit the nail on the head there hcwt

I seem to remember in the deep dark recesses that the Punter is a dab hand with the gloves. If Dhoni can do it? So… Haddin out, Roy in and Punter behind the stumps directing traffic. Purely hypothetical but Haddin’s not as good a keeper as Gilly and Gilly wasn’t real flash.

Whats with all the talk about the Monk he is playin SHIT

Just trying to find a replacement for Haddin. “The Monk”, that’s a new one on me. Please explain Dozzer. Anyway if Haddin goes and Punter takes the gloves, surely the best performing all rounder on the international stage would take his place. I’m using the same logic as…. ” If she weighs the same as a duck, she’s made of wood, and therefore…... a witch!”
