The new season kicks off on Saturday. Lets keep this thread for thoughts, opinions and facts on the upcoming season. We can start with a prediction for title winners and surprise team of the season. Title winners Man Utd. They have injury problems right now but have the squad to win again to make it 3 in a row. Can’t wait for Fergie to retire! Surprise teamSpurs will do well and could challenge for a top 4 spot.

Do you think Spurs will still be a threat with no Keane and didn’t Berbatov leave too?
|
|
I don’t think Berbatov has gone yet but i read today that sir alex has him on his shopping list. My thoughts

Spurs will be nowhere, ever! But seriously I don’t see them challenging, my prediction is 6th I fear for my boys this season, desperate lack of depth in the squad. I can’t see us above 4th. As much as it pains me, I think Man Utd will win it again.

As a United supporter for over 30 years I am obviously a happy man of late, but I fear a bad start to the seaon could be our undoing this season! Lots of injuries, as Styles pointed out, and I think they could be a problem. That said, we have overcome that before and I dont see anyone else that looks seriously threatening. Maybe Liverpool will have a good chance as everyone else is a bit lacking! And I think Spurs might do better than expected….along with Newcastle and Arsenal will always be up there with a chance, despite their lack of depth!

It pains me too, but ManU have the squad, talent and depth to win the title again. Liverpool will give it an almighty crack, we suffered from injuries to Agger, Gerrard and Alonso last season. Will be interesting to see how Keane goes as well as our young signing Ngog. The Reds have a good squad but lack decent wide attacking midfielders, I’ve been banging on about this to my mates for near 3 seasons now. Fergie has Berbatov on his radar and Thierry Henry if the Berbatov deal falls through. Newcastle will have no chance and will be mid-low end of the ladder.

Liverpool to win , I think they are over due a good year, so long as they can keep the injuries down. & for a bolter , maybe Everton. Always fancied Spurs but they seem to be perennial underachievers.

Darren Bent has been scoring for fun in pre-season so although Keane leaving will hurt them, Bent stepping out of his shadow may be a good thing. Berbatov is still at WHL right now but could still go to Old Trafford. It’d be a complete ‘mare if Thierry Henry signed for Manyoo. Liverpool have some great players but quite a few new faces as well. As long as Manyoo stay in touch up to Christmas (oh god, I’ve spoken of Christmas in August!) they’ll cruise it in the last third. They don’t have much of an attack just now but their defence and keeper are awesome.

just back from a quick couple at the pub. just read the postings. Now down to reality. my top 6. Styles got this one going early. lets make it the biggest topic this year.
|

As I said in the other topic, I still believe that we can win it. Don’t pay attention to the pundits – they wrote us off last season, and if wasn’t for Eduardo’s busted leg, we would have won it. The signings we have made are class – Nasri especially, and if RvP can stay fit, and if the Gallas-Toure partnership can actually gel, we’re in with a real shout. So, top 6:

My main worry is up front with Man U. Rooney and Tevez with not a lot after that. But they are saved with having a midfield second to none. My Top 6 - Man Utd PS. Man Utd supporter for 35 years.

ManU are my team. But I don’t think they should be favourites to take the title. Most of the pundits reckon Chelsea should win, and I can’t see any reason to disagree. Last season ManU had an absolute blinder of a season from Ronaldo – what are the odds of that happening twice in a row, coming off surgery and with all the off-season histrionics to boot? Not good. Rooney is also off colour, and Berbatov ain’t in the squad yet. A slow start may be enough to hand the title to someone else. Arsenal were cruising last year, and took a massive dive – a bit of luck and they could have been in contention until late. Only problem, they have an aversion to spending and are too thin – they can’t cover injuries very well. Chelsea were still in it on the last day despite managerial kerfuffles and Drogba playing the fool. With a top notch manager they are #1. Liverpool? I’ll believe it when I see it. Just too much instability at the club, witness the completely bollocks of the Gareth Barry saga. We want him, no we don’t, he’s good value, he’s too expensive, we need Alonso, well… maybe… Rafa is just too clever for his own good and will be out on his arse soon enough. 1st Chelski By the way, why are we falling over Spurs again, just like everyone did before the last season? I prefer Portsmouth or Villa.

Just a reminder of the troubled genius ManU had running around for them last season…

Well the gunners won the first game of the season.

7 games on Saturday to get underway and no draws. A few late lucky winners. Nice for Hull to get an exciting win first-up at home. It’s going to be a long season for the Tigers. Not a good omen for Fulham after their heroics to stay up last season. Tottenham’s leaky defense conceded 2 goals to Borough, who could let in an own goal and still win. Berbatov on the bench. Hmm. Liverpool played like crap and got saved by Torres late in proceedings. Benitez playing silly buggers with Alonso on the bench until after half-time. Kuyt and Keane not showing much of a sniff just yet. Arsenal had lots of half chances but were lucky in the end that they managed to post a goal so quickly (< 4 mins).

I watched the Arsenal game and the Liverpool game. Liverpool were pretty awful and were really lucky Nando popped up with a screamer of a goal 10 minutes before the end. Alonso did have a cracking effort from inside his own half that almost caught out Craig Gordon but apart from that they didn’t look special. Arsenal were very good yesterday and created quite a few chances but the finishing was awful. The big pluses were Almunia and the back 4. Eboue did well in the middle of the park and Nasri was awesome, he could be a big, big player for Arsenal. The negatives were the finishing which again was wasteful (Torres might have scored 5 if he’d been playing for us!) and both Bendtner and Walcott were very ordinary. I think this is a make or break season for Walcott, he really needs to put in consistently good performances or he’ll be shown the door. Chelsea and Manu both play today, both should win.

Watch out for Leeds United. My boys will be back one day. haha
|
|
I think they lost at the weekend Leigh, bad luck! Big win for Chel$ki today and they were well worth it, bloody impressive. Decco was awesome and could well have scored the goal of the month! Manu were frustrated by the Toon who looked evry good. manu had lots missing but so did Newcastle. Chelsea are the new bookies favourites but it is early!

Ok a solid start for Bolton leaves me hopeful that they will have a good season :-)
