Is there really a poofteenth of interest in this game?

"Serenity Now"

I was interested but too many of them are injured now especially the Saints players who I go for. It should be a great game though if the weather is dry and it is a free flowing game, I mean its the best players in the competition you can’t go to wrong.

i doubt it. as you can see from my avatar i am a RABID afl fan. problem (and this is only my opinion, i’m saying i’m right either so please don’t roast me lol) is:

1. its supposed to be victoria vs rest of australia, but if you look at the side its close to having all SA players in it (of course these guys may not play for port or the crows but are originally from SA).

2.in the late 80s when it wrapped up it was a great match, safl vs vfl, guys were proud to play and it really was a highlight of a players career. now i think guys a more worried about possible injuries and how it will affect their contract, market value etc_ and i completely understand that and AM NOT being critical of that.

3. its only comparison is the S.O.O in league, and while i’m not a league fan, safe to say its the most anticipated game/s of the year, almost more so than the grand final. and given the afl format, it will not match up to that level.

4. for this to be successful and huge it requires the players to genuinely want to play to their best, not be scared of injury etc. it also needs all states to be represented. by that i mean SA, Vic, WA etc. this will always be diffcult, because where will it stop, given that afl seems to be spreading like wildfire accross the whole country.

I will definately watch the game, but if i miss it i won’t be upset.
Like i said everyone may think i’m wrong, but this is the way i see it.

yep she’s a non event

Another contrived event for VFL glory. Had they lost, it was to a team made up of “dream” picks so no biggy, if they won they claim the best in Aus title, no lose for the big V. Played in front of a home crowd, with large doubts over the umpires ability to see past which side their bread is buttered on….... It was exactly what I thought it would be, staged and contrived. Bring back the real state of origin or bury it for good, but to celibrate Aussie rules in Australia by ignorring the rest of the country? (it has been played in places other than Victoria you know,) is typically Victorian, arrogant and self glorifying. The rest of the country should have boycotted this crap for what it is.

It's the only game in the world where you can call penalty on yourself. It's the greatest game there is.

If all those AFL players played a truly world game or sport, Australia indeed would be the greatest sporting nation on Earth.

golf an infinite journey

Per capita we’re probably not far off that mark at the moment. High ranking sports people in a very wide range of sports.

the game was a bit of a waste of time, and as divot knows, i’m a huge afl fan! however i do some joy in the way big fev played. then again, when nobody can be bothered tackling what do you expect lol!

Blues to beat bris by 20 plus at telstra this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m an optimist. I’ll say a 60 point schelacking to the Blues :D

well i live near brisbanus so i had to be reasonable! i do think they’ll win though.

Carlton V Lions should be a cracker, be a good sign to see where both teams are at, Carlton should win being at home but I like the Lions chances.

I live near Brissie too, and I’d love nothing more to be able to rub it in if Carlton win. As Hozel says, should be a cracker. Honestly I don’t expect Carlton to win. The past few games I’ve seen, they simply haven’t had good enough pass/kick completion for me to be confident in saying they’ll win any matches – although I expect them to win at least one more match this year. The upside of that sort of viewpoint is that if they do win, it’ll be a real bonus :)

Mate don’t discredit their chances. I agree that we’re probably another season away from being a great team, but even in the losses this year we look good.
Problem this weekend is the fev, JB angle. Fev in my opinion has more natural talent than anyone else in the game, but unfortunately sometimes his focus falls down. whereas brown is just the prototype footballer, 100% every game. If fev gets some good service and starts off ok then we’ll really touch them up. But as you both said, I think it will really be a cracker of a game!!!

I thought I was being realistic about it. Last year in about half of their losses they looked good too. In the other half they out and out got thrashed, but even in those they showed glimpses of brilliance. Granted this year they look better, but from each of the games I’ve seen (win or lose), they’ve had considerable periods of time where they couldn’t seem to take a mark (usually due to poor kicking) or kept passing to players in contest, resulting in turnovers. It happened late in the Collingwood match too, but they were lucky that Collingwood couldn’t seem to get it together either. Until they sort that out, they can expect turnovers and losses.

I don’t see Fev as the problem. I see it being the passing in between the half back line and forward line. Too many turnovers resulting in goals. My opinion is that the Carlton team as a whole has more talent than Brisbane – courtesy of many high draft picks. It’s the melding as a team that’s not quite there yet. If they complete those kicks and passes in the middle over 80-90% of the time, Brisbane don’t stand a chance. If they can’t complete those passes, they’ll lose.

Another point of interest – Carlton are odds-on favourites to win, despite Brisbane being higher on percentage. Tight odds though.
