Unrepaired divot hole at Masters

Everyone must have noticed the unrepaired divot hole that Immelman found his ball in on the 18th at the Masters. I was quite surprised to find that kind of thing happening in a Major. I understood that used to be the caddy’s job but nowadays they had course maintenance staff following each group filling divots, raking bunkers and the like. Specially at Augusta where everything is perfection!!!

I think that all divots should be GUR and warrant a free drop!

Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

'If you can read this, thank a teacher, and since it's in English,

Naah… learn how to hit it out of one.. Immelman knewhow to.. I used to think that wayvis avis a free drop, but now, weel Its just simply ‘rub of the green’ and it should stay that way..

The problem with any ruling on it being GUR is where the ruling start and where it ends, does an 8 week old divot thats 95% covered over give the player a right to relief, when do you determine that the last blade of grass has grown sufficiently enough that it is no longer GUR.. Players would be taking relief just about anywhere making all sorts of stupid claims

I am very mich of the opinion of both Chris 81 and u8ergolfer that it should remain as rub of the green and take your chances.

The decision making process would – as Chris says – become far too discretionary and slow play down even further where disputes arise. Hit it, find it, hit it again I say.

It generally all evens out in this game.

One area where there might be a chance for a change is in the area of the forced ball drop area where in an area of say one metre square there might be 20 divots and a guy forced to take a drop in there has a significant chance of his ball finding a divot. I think there is an argument for placing in that situation but as far as general play is concerned I think it should remain as it is.

cheers

That,s a very good point bruce . Maybe this could be covered by a local rule. Is this possible R.D or AAA?

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

POM,

In lieu of RD & AAA not being here (I don’t know if they sweep across the whole forum…) I might help you out.

The R&A’s book “Guidance on Running a Competition” talks about dropping zones, and the idea of wear and tear with them (in other words, lots of divots)

“Prior to establishing dropping zones, Committees should be aware that such areas may suffer from a concentraton of play and, therefore, new dropping zones may have to be established frequently when the old area has become badly damaged.”

Any committee worth their salt should be doing this.

Cheers
Trysil.

If you get a drop from landing in a divot and hit of fresh grass this would just create more divots and more likely hood of landing in one imo.

whose divot was it boys???
