2nd Lesson from new pro.Thoughts

Had my second lesson from new pro and my grip came under the microscope. I naturally want to grab the club with a strong grip and this he tells me is the reason a lot of my balls end up left. So he had me gripping the club with both thumbs pointing straight down the shaft. Results were some fantastic long shots but if I didnt get it right the result was a massive slice. ( compared to a playable hook with my old strong grip) Would this be due to not getting through the ball fast enough?

Rotation of the power package on the pivot moving at the same number of RPMs. They must work together. If you feel you are working too hard then one of them is going faster than the other.

I wonder what causes a slice? Thumbs down the shaft! get your money back. Keep the strong grip and deliver your right fore arm on the same plane as the shaft. If your coach is a PGA member, refer him to me for a little chat

I was itching to say that.
Probably a silly question, but why is it so bad to have your thumbs running down the shaft?
Kills off some rotation.

Ok, so, where would it be advisable to put your thumbs? Cause I had a lesson earlier this year and he advised me to change my grip slightly. He said my left hand was to far over (label of glove facing the sky). I was advised to turn my hand slightly so the label of the glove faced more towards the target. Also, to wrap my right thumb over the top of the club, so it was facing somewhere between facing the target and running down the club. Almost so the “v” formed by my thumb and index finger runs down the shaft. Hope that makes sense. Your thoughts?
Just try both v’s pointing to your right shoulder. See what happens.
Can definitely understand the V on my right hand facing my right shoulder but am a little confused as to getting the V on my left hand to face my right shoulder. Would that be best achieved by changing the angle of my left wrist?
Just wrap put the shaft it the fingers and allow the wrist to roll over the top of the shaft a little more than you have it now. You can even allow the left thumb to go behind rather than on top of the shaft.
Ok, thanks. Also, when rolling my wrist over, should I keep the label of the glove/back of my hand facing the target?
It will roll over to face a little to the right.
Face a little right to the target? Also, what is the benefit of this?
Allows you to roll anticlockwise through the ball. You will also see that at Impact Fix the back of the hand is facing the target rather than out to the right.
Thus producing a slight draw if done correctly? Have just had a few swings in the backyard with it. Am still a bit confused about the left hand grip. I understand the V pointing the right shoulder but is it correct to say that if I put the club too far in my fingers the back of my hand is facing the sky and if I have it not in my fingers enough the back of my hand faces the ground so I have to find that middle ground?
You got it:)
Ok. Looking forward to actually getting out and having a hit with it then. As a result, if looking at the grip of the club from the outside I presume the only things that would stop a full view of the grip would be my two thumbs, wrapping over on each side? Or am I over analysing it?
So, would I be correct in my above thought or over analysing?
Just go hit some balls:) Know what each look is and rego where the balls go. Then work out which is the better one to use.
Ok, thanks guru.

Dart, yes he is a PGA member. I believe he was after a quick fix so I could go away happy that my hook had gone and I had got my $40 worth. Do you suggest I cancel my next booking with him. At least I now know how to hit a big fade or draw if I have to! Problem is when your new to the game who do you listen to apart from the experts on here but without seeing swing up close its very hard to help someone. I notice David Leadbetter advocates the left thumb to be straight down shaft so I presume its the right thumb that dictates where the ball goes? I also notice its not the position of the thumbs that determines where the V’s point but the angle of your wrists.
Shit, im confused now. Just done some more research on the ideal grip and now the advice is left thumb just right of centre and definetly not on top and the right thumb lying diagonally across the shaft with the tip touching the right forefinger. (Isnt that a weak grip) Someone care to clear this up for us novices.
The right hand is strong if its more “behind” or “under” the grip. The right hand is weak if it sits atop of the shaft with more of the back of the hand facing upwards. It is useless in this position as there is bugger all way that you can get the right forearm on plane without being an eel. Frankly the right thumb is pretty useless in a golf swing. The index finger (Pressure Point #3) is only good for feeling lag as it is not not a true driver for a swinger. It senses the inertia of the head behind the the hands.

GottaStartSomewhere, I’ve seen a lot of golf swings and grips over the years win a lot of tour events and money. This is what I have seen win.. Strong left- strong right but I have never seen
Lag Pressure throwaway is the root of all golf's evils |

weak left and weak right is good for porn sites.. not golf.
