Chipping over a steep bunker

My chipping has really improved but one shot I am having problems with is the high short chip over a bunker. My PW seems to travel too far and not enough loft and I struggle with the SW. I have tried putting the ball further in stance to get more height but feel I am trying to lift it over. Is this where a lob wedge would come in handy?

Well its time to use a Pitch shot with some wrist cock in use. Chips are designed for low running shots in the main. Hit The Golf School and the answers are there:)

Sorry if this seems stupid, but I thought putting the ball back in the stance made for a lower trajectory. Any truth to that?

read the golf school articles MrC.. that will answer your question.. LOL
..i'll come up with one soon.. |

its sort of true mr c, in the sense that loft decreases, but also it will affect how you hit at the ball, and the type of stroke will change how it flies but the op said “put the ball further” in his stance, so i suspect he means ‘further forward’

Yes, I menat further forward in stance . Off to re read the Golf School Articles on Pitching and Chippng

Further forward with a Vertical Hinge, aka a bunker type shot, will show more loft the further forward you go be it a chip or a pitch shot. Chipping is mainly for lower runners or a low throw to the far side of a green. High throws need a bit more umph via a little bit of wrist cock action, hence the distinction between chip and pitch:)

Guru, Does a standard PW have enough loft to play this shot or would you need something with more loft?

If its a quick up and down shot, go the SW or LW.
