Consistency and length away from the ball

i am a realtive new golfer and joined my first ever club with my dad. Went for my handicap card on the weekend and shot a couple pars and bogeys but then hacked my ball across all parts if the fairway and the next hole after a good one. Also my length from the ball changes every time i have a shot even for the same club. What distance should i stand away from the ball and how do i become more consistent.

I have always been told to lay your club on the ground with it’s natural lie ( sole flat on the ground) Any guru’s out there to tell me if this is correct or not?

How about you start out with Lesson 1 on the Golf School.
Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. - BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF |

tortiz, Good for you. I am so envious of your situation with your Dad and a life time of golf ahead and a place to learn without being hurt. Do as muntz suggests. You asked a question like, “where do I stand to deliver my first delivery in the Boxing Day test at the MCG. First learn to swing and the ball will soon get in the way. Enjoy the trip. Call again with your progress or hurdles.

Enjoy the journey tortiz:)

Hi Tortiz. Welcome to a wonderful sport, and a fantastic golf forum! Follow the advice of the other’s. If you are inconsistent and “moving towards the ball”, then that is the result of an incorrect pivot or knee action. For starters, I would recommend watching Tom Tomasello’s golf videos that Lynn Blake hosts on his website for free. They will teach you the fundamentals of the golf swing, how to pivot properly, “educated hands”, and provide you with some drills. Here is the link: Tom Tomasello videos After you have the basics from the videos, and an understanding of what the hands should do in a golf swing, then we can help with any problems you encounter. Best of luck, and HAVE FUN!!!

We are all different but a workable “rule of thumb” guide is to take the distance from the lower part of the grip to the top of the hosel – when the club is laid on the ground, of course Surprisingly, or otherwise, putting your toe ends in line with the end of the grip and the ball at the top of the hosel does fit most average sized golfers. Try it for yourselves.
