Hello all, I would just like to start by giving some insight into my golfing background. I am now 25 and wanting to get serious about learning how to play this game properly. I used to play weekly as a junior (15-17) and had a few group lessons. Although this got my handicap down from 30 odd to about 25 I found the pro was more interested in the younger kids than me. Since then I have played once every 3-6 months enjoying the occasional social hit Anywho after all that my question is, as I am on a limited budget, I was hoping to pick up some pointers from videos rather than fork out for a pro. Can anyone recommend good golf videos or clips on youtube that would be of a help to someone who wants to get the fundamentals under control.

Matt, Have a look here for the fundamentals and then some from Jeffman. It’s good stuff. Plus trawl through the forums here and you’ll find plenty of gold with links to videos etc. There are some great teachers here. Well worth the effort and won’t cost $75 for 45 mins. It’s hard to beat a good lesson though. Good luck. http://perfectgolfswingrevi...

All quick, jerky and wobbly motions are improper execution. |

I’ll second Shawn Clement. He was all I used before I found out about this site.

I also favor Shawn Clements video lessons as being very instructive – although biased towards a free hip turn swing style (which I like). Jeff.

I think the advantage of having a lesson nice and early is that a half-decent pro can put their finger on your biggest problems nice and quick. If they can fix your grip / setup / takeaway in the first lesson or two then you have a chance to build on this with the online lessons and videos. Just be honest with them about what you want. The problem with starting with videos is that you may think you are doing X when in actual fact you are doing Y. BTW, Shawn has a web site where his YouTube vids are categorised and ordered. Shawn Clements. Click on “You Tube Shawn”. PS. Can’t wait for Guru and Dart to get video versions of the golf school lessons up and running…

Hey Mattmiddo, I’m in a similar situation to you. 27 now, and played in my teens but have taken it up again seriously over the past 5 months. I pottered around with books and youtube videos for a few months and broke my handicap from 22 – 18. Then I had two video lessons and my handicap in four rounds has dropped from 18 to 12. I think you should find a pro who will give you a 30minute lesson and video your swing and set you on the right path. A short lesson every months could keep things on track and not set the budget back too much. I’m glad I had the lessons a few small swing tips and thoughts has helped so much. Good luck! Cheers, Stokesy.

Another way of looking at it is, how valuable is your own time? A lesson or two could save you months of farnarkling.

You can join the members section of the Gary Edwin Golf site for $30 and that will give you access to over a hundred videos, which you can actually download unlike other sites. Among the videos there are lessons of Gary working with students as well as tour players. Another brilliant fringe benefit of becoming a member of Gary’s site is that you get a massive discount on online lessons, only $20 for a full swing analysis and drills to fix what you are doing wrong! Can’t get much better than that. Oh … just in case you don’t know who Gary Edwin is he is the coach of awesome aussie players like Rod Pampling, Gavin Coles, Peter Senior and many others. http://www.garyedwingolf.co...
