Balls ending up left of target

Just got back from the range and cant work out why 80% of my balls ended up left of target.

I set a club down in line with target and parallel to feet and align clubface so it is square to target but they still go left, not hooking left but solid contact landing 5-10 metres left over 150 metres.

I have tried opening club face a little at address but this results in a nasty slice.

Any suggestions whats going on here.

OTT.

Tuck right? :)

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

So will working on keeping the right arm in closer to hip be the best remedy for this?

Not until you drive down and out to the correct spot. You are hitting at the ball rather than to the correct slot. If you are not on plane you are destined to a golfing life of misery.

Yes Guru, ive had nothing but misery since taking up this ridiculous game 5 months ago but I will not be beaten.

Just cant get the down and out thing going and the worse thing is I hit some good shots with my faulty swing but I have no confidence in the next shot.

I guess I need to get back to putting a tee a couple of inches outside and forward of ball and get the club heading on the right plane. Any other drills you can suggest.

ps, the divots I leave with my shots pulled to the left are usually fairly straight, should they be pointing slightly right of target?

pps, in an earlier post about OTT Virge666 mentioned tring a two tee drill with the intention being not to hit either of the tees but there was no picture or explanation on how to set this up.

This post wont really help but I thought I’d give my thoughts

this is my problem too at the moment. 7 iron good crisp contact and I think I’ve made a good shot but when I look up the ball is going straight left.

For me I know the problem OTT with clubface square to the swingpath on contact…ball flies left.

I’ve leant that I’d rather see a hook or push to the right which tells me at least I’m swinging from the inside out. Whats frustrating is you think you’re swinging inside out but clearly if ball is flying left your OTT.

The difference between OTT, Inside Out and Inside Square for me as a beginner is hard to differentiate cos they all feel the same its only what the ball does after contact I know what I’ve done. I think I’ll go back and read the golf school and keep an eye on this one

Guys

The Guru is cruel to us OTTers, ‘cos he knows ‘til we get down and out we don’t get ‎it. Golf School Article – Plane Part 3 – Light shines up the wall. If right elbow ‎chases the hips side ways, what has to go down and out and when to get the clubhead ‎to low point?‎

ST

If profanity influenced the flight of a ball, the game would be played a lot better

It is a cruel game indeed:) Just how far OUT you have to go is huge compared to what you think is correct. “What way out THERE! OUT THERE come on??!!!” OMG it is.

torch drill would be good place to start

Novice has been renamed…and changed swing schools…apparently not loving the vision track any more!

down and out…did ya get that?

In an earlier post about OTT Virge666 mentioned trying a two tee drill with the intention being not to hit either of the tees but there was no picture or explanation on how to set this up.Anyone know how this drill is setup?

GSS,

I complained of the same thing for 20 years.

My answer was, think target all the way from address to finish.

Doing that caused an automatic swing direction shift 2 or 3 degrees to the right. About half a fairway or green. Targets being designed about 10 degrees wide.

This only works if you have built your foundations correctly.

Golf swings are a bit like driving cars. If you close your eyes and take your hands off the wheel, it goes left 80% of the time.

Does anyone know if the Vision Track Swing Aid can be purchased in Australia?

Thanks

Not that I know of. I used to carry a few but the cost of shipping the things around was stupid.

Look up The Golfers Footprint. Cheaper, smaller and whilst not technically as good as the VTrack, the idea is there.

All off plane problems start with a poor setup. Then is amplified by a poor take back. You are then chasing the original setup and back swing problems all the way back down to the ball, making instinctive changes to the swing trying to get the club back square to the ball.

Sam Snead set up every shot the same way.

I set up every shot the same way, including my putter, surely this is the only way to have a consistent and regular shot making capacity?

Don’t tell me you haven’t all experienced the peaks and dips, the five or six holes that are great, the swing is smooth, the timing is there, then all of a sudden it’s gone.

I have reached a point with my swing that I believe I can practice my Driver by putting all day. I can practice my chipping by driving etc. It all starts with the correct set up, and then moves to the back swing and then you will gain the confidence you need.

I could go on but then you would be bored reading it….

It may be way off, but couldn’t ball position have something to do with it? Having it too far forward will will mean that the wrists have rolled further that they are meant to for a straight flight path. (Hides head in coat and waits for “Nooooooooooo” XD)

Fair idea this time Mr C:) yessssssssssssssssssss it is a real possibility.

Hope that makes you feel better. I can see the nooooooooo becoming a running gaggggggggggggggggggg.

Haha the yesssss is much easier to handle :-) I had the same problem with ball position although in my case it was too far back and this led to all kinds of lovely compensations. Just be careful because my perception of where the middle was did not agree with the reality of the situation and thats where I was going wrong.

From my own checklist, can I suggest checking the position of the right arm especially the elbow before takeaway
