i recieved 5 X 1/2hr lessons for my bday, so i’m deciding if i should spread out the lessons or would it be better to use them up as quickly as possible. how frequently do/did you get lessons?

Depends on what level you are.

I would space them out at monthly intervals.

Get a general swing lesson for the first couple and them get the pro to help in problem areas. For me it was Tee shots for 15 minutes on one lesson, and general swing for 15 min. Another week I spent 15 minutes in bunker with pro which was a huge help.
Next time I am going to spend time on driver again and chipping, plus a 170 par 3 tee shot that is giving me hell.

Hope this helps.

Flush it, chunk it, flush it, chip it, hole it 5 a half!
Flush it, flush it, three putt the half!

If your not breaking 100 every time Two in the first month to sort out your set up and grip then once a month is good.

Having your lessons too quickly is a waste for mine. Get the list of changes you need to make form lesson 1, master them, get a review of your progress at the start of lesson number two and then get some more changes. Thats the way I go anyways. Every 2 to 3 weeks is pretty good, but it depends on how much you play I guess.

1-L, it is all there my friend.

Seven,
Mr c is right, until you have mastered your first lessons swing changes then go the next lesson.Master each change first before you get another lesson. Even if it takes months

i had my first lesson last week and now starting to undo a year of bad habits. The pro said my swing isn’t too bad, just my hands were the main part of my swing. now i am working on getting the shoulders/body turning. also getting rid of my stiff straight left arm too. I cant explain it but everything about my swing feels wrong but also feels right at the same time. This is why i love this game!

I try and have mine nice and slowly – I have a long lesson then spend at least a month trying to understand everything the coach said and apply it to my game before going for the next one.

I Have recently completed a block of golf lessons from using long irons – driver, short Irons, pitching, bunker, putting etc. Currently scoreing three figures ( That is over 100 + ) . With consistant practice every day and playing at least one game or more per week how long should it take me to say beak 80 ?? I am new to golf so I am very much a beginner. On the days I don’t play Say 30 minutes to an hour or more. :-)

seven – as already suggested, absorb what you are being told at each lesson before going for another – a caveat to that is they shouldn’t be more than 6 weeks apart as you need a little pressure and a time deadline to ensure you keep practicing.

MrTee – how long is a piece of string? There are no guarantees in this wonderful game so its impossible to say how long it will take for you to break 80. The important thing is that you seem committed and have that goal to move towards. To immediately lower your scoring, work on your short game, that will have the quickest impact on your ability to break 100.

Styles, you are playing off 2 or something? Agreed, work on the short game. Why is it that you cannot get down to that magical zip mark? If you are off 2, you can obviously hit the ball on the FW but it comes down to putting. Miss a couple of putts, throw in a 3 putt or 2, not up and down from a trap etc. There is the few shots wasted in your round. A mate of mine used to hit it all over the place and have 120. He now hits the ball on the FW or close enough to it to give him a chance at having a par/bogie. He still has his 7’s and 8’s but atleast he breaks 100 each time. We fixed his driving and now that he has a feel for the game, he is working on his short game. Golf is back to front at times. Good golfers work on their putting, not so good golfers need to get the pill in the ballpark first and then work on their short game.

Hmmm. Why did Faldo go to Leadbetter?

He was a very good golfer with a great career ahead of him, however, he knew he couldn’t be the world number 1 and win multiple majors with the swing he had.

Whilst my own ambitions are not so lofty, I know that whilst my swing was good enough to allow me to play off two and shoot sub par every so often, it was not good enough to let me shoot par or better every week. Trying to fix that by working solely on putting would be to ignore the true underlying problem – in any case I don’t putt that badly and if you had read the entire thread you would know that it is my driving and getting it in the fairway that is the problem.

Since beginning work with Guru, I have to say that my driving is amazing. I am hitting it longer and straighter than ever.

Can’t wait for the weather to improve here cos I know I’ll make it to scratch this year for sure.
