Five Years ago I was on my way to see Europe to play the tour. Two weeks before I was to fly out was crushed between two front enloaders. Ended my career, wasn’t meant to live past 24hours,not walk again, Every disc is my back is permanently bulged ,told never play golf. Best thing they ever said. Hit the physio, gym, hydrotherapy, 3years later walking and running. Took up golf in march last year shot 108, got determined head down by october shot par. Now my plan is to use K-vest and T.G.M together and see how what is the lowest I can shoot.

Bio is unbridled determination. Guru and I are trying to break him in.

What rotten luck, would have taken a great deal of mental strength. Good to see you’ve proven them wrong.

bi0mechanic

Mate, you sound a bit more Bionic than Biomechanic.

Good luck with your full fitness and golfing recoveries.

Good luck bio, i too had a accident that ended my dream’s pretty quickly got hit by a drunk driver when i was of +3 and broke my back and a hell of alot of offer bones, after years of pain finaly started playing again three and a half years ago and got it down to scratch so far
dont give up bio its more fun the second time around

Agreed, it is more fun the second time around after serious injury and or a medical condition. Cancer was my battle, beat the motherf—ker though and played better golf afterwards for some reason. Sort of gives you a different perspective on life. I would not say it gave me more determination or belief as you have that when you are a player being a professional or elite amateur, rather, you just see the game differently.
Same goes for all the mid to high handicappers. A mate of mine lost he leg many years ago, was off 20 with 2 legs and now plays off 12 with one leg. Work that out.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

Mate you are an inspiration to all the able bodied golfers that whinge when the course is a bit marshy after rain and say their legs are sore.More power to you… :)

You don't hit anything on your back swing so why rush it!!!!

Bio, you story is truly inspirational and your gritty determination to remedy you ailments comes through when you are writing about your golf teaching methods. I wont be betting against you on the golf course !

Thanks everyone for your support,
I think I was lucky sixteen years ago, One of Darts prodgy’s craig grant, coached me and introduced me to T.G.M and taught me educated hands. When I picked up the sticks again last year my hands were still educated , so all I need to do is build a swing to work with them.
Today was second day of practice, took it easy , my hitting was good and drive loading was very good,( love hitting i feel so strong and confident and know I can stick it at the pin)
but my pivot was very poor due to flexability,So day three ,will need to go back to pool work ,to get my flexability back. then hit the range.
My accuracy was quite good with pitches and punches, but judging distances needs alot of work.
swinging needs alot of work. My pivot isn’t firing as well as it should, my hands are good, my accuracy was left and right so club head control needs slight adjustments. My flexability is killing my swinging at the moment, but everything is look positve so far
bit of hard work is required.
One area I need to work on is to ensure I go back to my checklist
12-3 , here i am preaching to my students checklist, checklist, checklist and what do I forget my checklist.

Well boys all is well, Been doing my stretches and exercise, Been doing very little work on the game, only light stuff on short game and hundred down shots.
I found my swing today, was toying on the practice fairway, trying to swing and cracked, I’ve tried swinging and I hate swinging, I love to hit, I was always a hitter, so I committed to hitting work up through my bag pulled out my driver,Do I hit or do I swing, what the hell, I hit my driver, wow did it hammer hit the ball further than I did swinging.
I decided to hit the coarse for quick nine,Giving hitting ago, what a freak round, I shot 3 under, went, par, birdie, boggy, par, birdie, par, par, birdie, birdie. Missed one fairway, hit six greens. all birdies were 12ft and less. May have been a lucky round but I will take it.

sweet stuff bio!

Thanks styles,
wouldn’t mind pulling a round like that at St Andrews, Although I think would have to us more class then ass I did today : )

Bio: How much work do you have to put in physio and gym wise with the rehab? Obviously after such a major smash each little part of the body needs to be rebuilt and then re-coordinated with its surrounding parts. I wondered if being of a Yellow Book mind whether the rehab has fired up your thought processes about what moves what and whether that make looking at the K-vest ideas more interesting to you personally.

Guru,
I spent 5 days at physio, 7 days swimming and also doing hydro therapy, Only did body conditioning not weights, pilates yoga etc. 5 days a week. I has to do this four three years straight just to walk.
Everyday for the rest of my life I have to do stretches, etc.

When I seen K-vest my eyes lit up, I pulled out the yellow book and said now I can play golf again, K-vest is a great training aid to give body awarness, but is an awesome combination with T.G.M
It gives people a feeling of what educated hands are, what loading is. K-vest is awesome to teach T.G.M the results are amazing.
Look at my efforts.

Did you find that whilst making the recovery from chipping to bigger shots that the time rebuilding actually gave you a better appreciation of building from a canoe to cruiser more precision in understanding the alignment and motions?

The reason I ask is that so many players want to belt the crap out of the ball when learning and miss so much of the precision and feel for how to actually do it by just playing from the Tee rather than the Green back to the Tee.

It is not often a high level player has to go right back to the drawing board so it would be interesting for you to compare your first learning of golf to your rehab relearning experiences.

Guru,
One area I struggle to spend time on is putting, standing static for long periods hurts my back. I’ve learnt to utilise my practice in small time frames, Your right instead of beating balls, perfect the alignments and motions.
I worked from the chipping and pitching, I spend more time on pitching then I can hone in and perfect my mechanical skills.
When I came back I accepted I wasn’t going to be a great ball striker so I need to be strong in other areas like pitching, chipping, and wedge play.
But in all honesty my ball striking is just as good if not better. I know my swing is 10 times better then five years ago.

On Sunday I had to give a playing lesson in Melbourne, With a beautiful young American girl what a joy. I put on a show. Went bogey, birdie, bogey, bogey, par, birdie, par, par birdie and shot par.
My high light was a worm burn cull-top drive on a par 4 which was 416 metres, nailed three wood pitched to 3ft thank you par, did the same on a par five except took birdie

Oh you show off you:)

Did you spent much time doing mirror work during rehab for slow swing alignment work?

Guru,
Mainly alignments and educated hands, I never did any mirror work, I let my ball flight do the talking

Played the worst game today, shot two over the only thing that saved me was my chipping and putting,I would have shot 90 otherwise, all day left and right, with my driver and irons,My judgement was terrible with distances, my rhythm was on holidays today, my attention must have ran off with my rhythm. I could have used dart’s help today to give me a good kick in the arse, I needed it.
Just couldn’t get my mind on the job today very disappointed.

Hi guys,
The lights have come on and figured out why my ball striking was up and down, I discovered coming down into impact, everything was on the money, alignments on the money, just before impact was reasing off plane, i.e my hands came over the top just before impact and releasing outside to in, I stopped tracing the target line, In every action, pitching , half and full shots
so simply, if I could have booted myself in the arse I would.
Played four holes and had birdie, eagle hit the purist 2 iron to one foot, then went, par, par,
Again chapter 12-3 alignments, one day I will get it in my thick head to always go through 12-3 everyday for the rest of my life.

I’ve been invited to play in Mylasia later in the year, So it’s operation ,finger out and win.

I have obviously missed somrthing but I always see quotes from a book (ie chapter 12-3)...what book is that please?

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

The book is “The Golfing Machine”. :)

I have 2 copies left here. golfguruATiseekgolfDOTcom if you wish to grab one.

Guru

How much are you asking for them. :)

Live4golf and ddasey, the little yellow book is the cheapest education in golf you can invest your money in and is well worth buying, If it wasn’t for this yellow book, I would not have been playing golf again, This book was the sucess to being the player I was to begin with, Thankyou homer kelly

I’ll see if I can find it while I am in the US….that way at least I can follow the chapters you blokes talk about…and can read on the flight back.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.
