http://www.iseekgolf.com/go... Just found that. Good interview Paul (and Chuck!). Interesting stuff about finding your own swing...Moe agreed, Hogan agreed too...interesting. 'I asked Moe once if he had ever heard of Homer Kelley and he replied, "Yes, the Golfing Machine – he has it figured out".' Cool. BTW are you sure he was a Hitter? I thought I had heard that he looked like a hitter but was a Swinger w/ Angled Hinging...???

If, as Chuck says, we can use any plane angle we want and shift
to another, so long as we come back to the original takeaway
plane, aren't we then always on plane? It's just our own
individual plane. As he goes on to say, there is no point trying
to copy anyone else's exact swing as we will never emulate it
perfectly, then does this not also mean that we are always on our
own plane. Therefore how can we ever be incorrect and off plane?
We can be on a better one, but we are always on some plane,
no?

You are only on plane if the shaft is pointed at the base of the plane! If the right wrist bends or you go OTT you lose that connection to it. Changing spine angles too will throw you off.

In my eyes Swingers usually clear and Moe didn't clear.
|
|
What do you mean 'clear.' As far as I can see he clears his hips...he just doesn't straighten his left knee like Tiger or w/e...keeps it bent like Mickelson (both are Swingers). I really think he was a Swinger. http://www.lynnblakegolf.co...=norman Takes it to the End (parallel), not the Top (3/4 swing- Hitter's stop their swings here). Horizontal Hinge (forearms roll over right after impact, toe of clubhead points to the sky right after impact...there is no "holding off"). And I've also read that he tried to PULL with his left side during the downswing. I could see how one would think he is a Hitter...his swing isn't really "smooth"- to the eye.
And in this sequence... ...he actually does only take it to the Top (3/4). Wish there were more frames post-impact to show the Horizontal Hinge. I still think he's Swinging tho.

Moe indeed was a swinger. He did not push the club, he was a puller. His impact alignments look a little like a hitters as his plane was different to most.
|
|
I am not saying he is a swinger or a hitter as I don't really use those references. I use left sider and right sider and he was a right sider!! He does not clear his hips.

Paul: The late Moe Norman has a great deal of fans on iseekgolf.com. What in your opinion did he do to make him such an accurate ball striker? Chuck Evans: I knew Moe for close to 30 years and during that time we had several conversations about his game and his "procedure". Moe was a pure "Hitter" in his golf stroke, as are and there are several keys to his stroke. thats what i copied from the article. Chuck says he was a hitter. or am i on the wrong path and did he just mean a flusher? i think he is a hitter. but who cares!!

|
I am glad people fired up that interview:) Brew: Moe cleared hips in his set up and via his delivery path being wider than most golfers.
Hitter or Swinger? He hit it pure thats for sure! Tell you what I
will ask Chuck to clarify his comments in the interview:) let see
if I can get him to visit Iseek

I understand your point. I am only dealing in semantics here.
However I still think as apparently according to Chuck we are
allowed to change planes on the way up then if one goes OTT then
aren't you just creating a new plane? It may not be a desired
one yet the club still ascribes a plane nonetheless???
|
|
Wasn't Moes trajectory more of a Hitters than a Swingers though???
|
|
Cleared hips in setup? When I say cleared I mean hips spin out on the way down.

I asked Moe once what he thought about in making his move, "Moe, do you feel like you pull with your pivot or push your with the right arm." He replied, "Pull with the left arm and push with the right." That my friends is a what we would call a "4 barrel" Hitter. Moe did not generate movement through rotation, in fact he also told me, "why turn away from the target". chuck

No wonder GE likes Moe!

Look at this sequence Chuck: http://www.lynnblakegolf.co...=norman ...you might have to click "Reload" a couple times in your browser...the pics are in the first post at the top of the page...didn't load up for me the first time. ANYHOO. Does he not take it to the End there?

It's a very fascinating area. Having looked at several sets of twins for style issues (27 in all), plus three sets whom I knew as friends and the one I married (not the whole set, just half of it - LOL), my take is that they tend to be unique as individuals, same as anyone else, no matter that they may be classified as "identical." It is no stretch that one might find a set of twins where both are "hitters," or "swingers," but it is just as likely that you will find twins where one is a hitter and the other a swinger. I've never seen a set of twins where both had the same lead behavior style, so the genetics involved there can be a bit different even from DNA (I've seen TV shows where they make a play on "duplicate" DNA in twins, but I have never had the opportunity to view that first hand).
The resounding pattern says "individual, individual, unique,
unique."

Thanks for dropping by there Chuck:) 4 Barrel Hitter. Not many of them around thats for sure. Would have been magic watching him in real life on a range and getting to chat to him. Lucky man Chuck!
|
|
Yeah Chuch, you're very fortunate to have met the great man Moe. Let alone just watch him strike it dead straigt every time. I'm sure it was awesome.

No offence boys. TGM is pretty good But this is the only problem i have with your TGM style or whatever you want to call it...
Likewise happens with Hogan another great ballstiker many people think he was a hitter... TGM Say a swinger. This is where TGM Falls down it just doesnt make sense. I think you guys are confused with the theory you love so much. Thats my perception (I cant wait to see some replys to those above comments LOL)
|
|
That problem irks me a bit as well. How can some say a swinger and some say a hitter? Aren't they two totally different motions or does the problem with the definition occur when the motions are blended? Hence the new term I haven't heard yet, the "4 barrel" hitter... I'm guessing it comes down to the individuals understanding and interpretation of TGM.
|
|
Wizard: Not confused at all, when we refer to someone as a Hitter or Swinger in the TGM sense (as defined by Homer Kelley) it is absolutely accurate in that scope. For example, Hogan definately is a Swinger under the TGM definition, that is...he pulled the club, not pushed as a hitter does. He used the body to create the force that threw the club into it's impact condition. A hitter like Trevino instead drives the club into its impact condition with his right arm. The only people that are confused here are those who make "insightful" comments on TGM without ever having read it or understood it. And it has taken a year and half of concentrated study for me to fully come to grips with the base information contained in TGM, so please refrain from flicking through it and saying you know what TGM is about.

Keep studying!

Of course I will

I have to add in Wiz's defense that, 1) Pamps is regarded as a swinger by TGM definition and a hitter by GE standards, Lonard is a hitter in both camps. both have the coach and are taight the same methodology. 2) It is sometimes hard to tell if someone is pulling or hitting from video, near on impossible from static photo. If we took TGM out of the conversation, some people define hitters and swingers differently, rightly or wrongly... I in no way doubt that according to TGM you are correct, but Wiz needs to be backed up here. Enjoy.
<.. defending Wiz, what has the world come to ..>
