Fos for example I would love to have back here. I think he’s great for the place, and I think he loves contributing here. There is a barrier as we all know. He’s a very passionate man – that Mediterranean blood hey! :-) So he is inclined to go past the line sometimes when his emotions get the best of him. I understand ISG’s position. And to be fair to them it is not only reasonable but probably their only choice. The real shame, and most of us know this already, is that Fos is knowledgeable, entertaining and generous with his help. So we miss that. I don’t like it when he rips into people I admire and like. Similarly I don’t like it when they try and tear him a new one. But I’m not surprised – it’s human nature. There are some big personalities here who have sacrificed a lot to learn what they know. They aren’t going to take being disagreed with lying down. And written threads are very difficult places to work out things to a ‘we agree to disagree’ point. Very difficult. Such is life.

I hope that I’ve written this properly. If anyone feels I was having a crack at them I hope that they’ll accept that that was not my intention. It’s hard to get the tone right every time when writing! :-)

I just hope everyone stays and keeps posting. We need everyone’s thoughts. We saw how well things went when they tried to just have pros providing advice – nothing happened (the legend that is Head pro excepted – he was a pillar). I want to hear from hackers to hackpros to pros! :-) Even stinkler sometimes says something interesting or useful (there must be something in those 20,000 posts surely?)

Happy to entertain you Brownie, that’s what I’m here for – expand your knowledge of the game. As for FLAIL in golf, Beldam’s version is the earliest version of the flail concept I could find in my research into the history of the game. Other versions are not the FLAIL concept in its original form. There are various forms of a flail – one form was a tool for threshing grain, another was a weapon of war. Beldam’s flail was a grain thresher which has two leather strips for the thongs. Anyway I’m sure you get the drift of how his concept is adapted to the human machinery.

I do believe that we dont really need to know ALL of flails in and outs to the absolute letter,as far as the average joe(thats me),just so long as we are simply well aware of of its workings in relation to golf swing .

The fact is that you are part of what you term “shit fights”. I call it an exchange of viewpoints and knowledge. Egos tend to get bruised in forums.

Is that right Ray,well mate bring it on,do you really want to get into it?

Weet. Your previous posts have been spot on and very balanced not having a crack at anyone. I don’t agree with the Fos comment though there is way more to that story that I won’t mention here and had to be deleted quickly when he was here. People here should have a chance to discuss and debate, but need to know where to draw the line at times. Even this thread has a few borderline comments from typically very balanced individuals. There is a point for all of us to remember, the student is the most important part of the equation. There is not one way to teach, we must understand how the student learns and apply the information to them in a way THEY will understand the best. We have to get away from being to technical for the average and beginner players, there knowledge base is not ready for that info. It pushes readers away. KISS ;)

Ig, Homer was an investigative genius. He tried to give us a running start on our thinking. He once said of a man on the practice tee. “He will be the same in 10 years time”. You read another book, not study THE book. Reading TGM is useless – you must study it. It is designed to be studied. Writing a precise on TGM is to destroy it. TGM forces you to examine you prejudice, predilections and false assumptions. Not a book for arrogant people, but it was a very clever thing to do for them. I think he did an extremely kind thing for a generation he would never meet. Most books spoon feed you your own thoughts with a different flavour to make you feel you are right. They don’t clear your thinking. I thought I had a clear idea of the golf swing every year for 50 years – only to discover heaps more the next day. Only now do I realise I barely have the faintest idea of what a golf swing is and how to teach it – but I know I am better than some who are certain the know how to teach it.

Glad to see you back, can you tell us with your great wisdom as to how the flail is connected with anchoring ban golfdom wishes to impose with the long putter.I cant find the post?

Weety, I agree with just about all that you’ve said in those posts above (prev page). The problem I see is that most expert contributors are passionate about helping others with golfing skills and have, mostly over many years, developed some methodology with how they’ve successfully helped others. When someone else professes an opposing view on how something might ‘best’ be done, they believe only in their own proven method and decry other ideas. They feel affronted with the suggestion that they may be wrong as they believe they have proven their own ideas, so others must be wrong. It’s when insults and denigration start flying that problems occur. So guys (experts), by all means promote your ideas and methods as being ‘the most effective’, but please just accept that somebody else may also have an effective method or system, even though it differs from your own. As was said above, we all have different triggers that help us learn and we haven’t learnt the task fully until such time as we can do it all consistently and effectively without thinking. I certainly haven’t got there yet. I’m still looking for the ‘magic bullet’ that might just get through my thick skull and imprint the right feeling into my swing. Keep trying to help guys, I need you. But don’t fight among yourselves.

I suspect it will be something to so with the lack of a requirement to manage the slack in the thongs. No flail in an anchored stroke.

I don’t agree with the Fos comment though there is way more to that story that I won’t mention here and had to be deleted quickly when he was here. I did say that ISG probably didn’t have a choice! :-)

Just keep talking about the golf, it’ll all be fine. It’s annoying when there’s long posts about politics. Brownie/Ignor/Dart/OM/Weets, keep the chat going.
What is this golf game you talk of? |

Not sure how weird I’m prepared to go for organic butter. Although stinky is a very attractive man, so nature may take it’s course!
