ask hackpro and mates

Ive had some lessons, improved my distance considerably and its still a bit variable so thats frustrating but the real BUGGER! is calculating wind strength and downhill uphills for approach shots.from driver.

Some players say its a 2 club wind, others say add on 10 meters instead of two clubs….how can i best calculate the right club because currently ive no idea and am just guessing and have no confidence at different courses. Thanks.

I’ll give this a go, as everyone is mates with Hacky, just use your inner feel, loosen up the shoulders, and put a smooth 3/4 swing on it every time. As for windy days, go up a club and play a punch shot. If in doubt, open another can….

I reckon the windier it is you just need to add % of effort.

If its really windy smash the b’jesus out of the sucker.

Always hit driver at 100%, why hit it any other way?

If you can swing harder than 100% then go for that. My favourite shot into the wind is off the hosel just aim left.

Been going thru a lot of greens doing that and well at the back too which has been unexpected and makes for hard returns. How do i know whether to go down a club or two if wind is behind or sideways to a downhill green….maybe its just guesswork but was hoping others used a rough formula with approx distances.

Yeah mate, a lot of it is just feel you’d gain from experience. Something a variable as wind doesn’t have any hard and fast formula.

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

Yes it does, the harder it blows, the more affect it has, can’t get more hard and fast than that.

Bump, there is a hard and fast formula. Its called a system of equations in two variables. It is probably simpler to use a linear equation comparing ground speed to air speed and solve using algebra. If Buggeracup was around he’d probably explain it to you. It does slow down play a little though.

Taking lack of talent to a whole new level.

I was going to say that, but PG beat me to it.

Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously.

Vanilla flavored i reckon

That means no one will play with stink except me as I like to shank my wind shots.

any one else heading home to get married??

Lol…stupid question i see….oh well.

it’s not a stupid question
eg
if you are 120m to a flag and into the wind and your shot is 10m short my rule of thumb is 1 club breeze
if 20 short = 2 club wind
a good golfer will kn0w how well they struck the ball and can gauge the feel for the change

then there are the variables associated with choke down shots
eg hitting a 120m with a 135m club (choke down shaft) which has a lower trajectory and the wind wont hurt it as much

if you shape the ball there is more to take in to account so there is no easy answer

up hill use a longer club (as you are standing on a hill it adds loft to the club)
so instead of 8i go 7i

down hill use shorter club

i played sanctuary lakes 2 weeks ago and the wind was forecast at 40klm. i hit a 5i (norm 150m) choke to a 135m (norm 7i) flag
stopped pin high

hope that helps some

Golf4meanbirdie,
The key to playing in the wind is learning trajectory control and ball control
Learn to hit the ball flat like a bullet. If you can learn this skill the wind will not effect the ball as much and you don’t lose as much distance into the wind either. You have far great control over your golf shots.
If you play courses down on the Peninsula and you hit as per normal , you can lose 3 to 4 clubs distance on pretty windy days.

You learn to hit it like a bullet and in those type of conditions at best you will lose 2 clubs distance. For wedge distance shots up to 120 learn to hit low hard PW,9 iron and 8irons. The 8 iron is basically a low half punch shot. These type of shots again give you far more control.

Key is keep it low, you throw the ball up in the wind as normal you lose control of the ball and the wind is going to control your game.

Hit the fairway learn theses shots, you find the you won’t loses as much distance either on normal windy days at most you make lose 1 club in distance.
Hope this helps

it really would depend on your ball flight/trajectory….

what is it normally?

long, short, left and right = ALL FINGERED

Low in wind, only height if i need to and its calm. How do you sort it hack?
