What do you do away from the course/range?

What do you do away from the course or range that helps you with your golf game? Are you stretching, weights, swinging a club in the backyard, planning and thinking about rounds? I try and run through my round the night before to get me excited for the following day’s play. Usually see myself getting off to a good start with a nice 3 wood down the centre of the fairway and then making a regulation par from there and it continues. Nothing steadfast but just a general feel for how I want to play each hole. I then try and visualise that memory again when I’m walking to the same tee the next day out on the course. That’s about all I do. I’d like to do more. I think some stretching exercises would be a good idea a few times a week. Perhaps some mirror drills or something to work on posture would also be beneficial as I tend to lose that as my round progresses. What do you guys do?

I’m a weekend hacker at the moment trying to improve my game, but the main focus I have away from the range / course is stretching. Every night I try to do 30min of legs / hips / arms / shoulders etc. Not always possible but if I aim for every night it can only do good things. I usually do a 5-10min warm up on the treadmill, just a brisk walk and then stretch. I figure I’d probably be sitting down watching the TV anyway so might as well lie on the floor and stretch, Been doing it for about one and half months and already starting to feel a lot better. I was about as flexible as a plank of wood when I started….! Practise putt on the carpet, five cent piece from three to eight foot. Only other thing I do is read and learn. Learn the technique to play different shots, learn how to think my way around a course. I can then implement these thoughts when I’m on the course / range. Youtube is great for instructional videos. Well as I said, just a hacker but trying to improve.

Read ISG Dream about a good round the night before. Screw it up on the day. Read ISG again for a remedy Rinse and repeat.

I used to hit thousands of balls a week, but now play 4 times a week instead, and since I stopped practicing I have stopped improving and tbh am starting to go backwards. Have to find a balance maybe play twice a week practice twice a week. I am becoming just another chopper off 9 who can play to it once a week, if that. Away from the course? Nothing
I like clean chics with dirty minds |

Know how you feel, I haven’t been practicing and my average drive has dropped to 299 meters. It’s very frustrating and really looks bad for me.
What is this golf game you talk of? |

I like to have a beer and dart when I’m away from the course….

But to answer the OP’s topic, and weak attempt to bring discussion back on line, practise swings in the garage/yard. Practise putting on the carpet to a coin. Concentrate on getting square impact, distance control is wasted considering carpet rolls differently. Chipping into a basket with different trajectories imitating flop(half flops anyways, bump n run and chip and release. Also watch videos of my swing.

Head to the gym three or four times a weak, plus physio exercises every night for 30mins – that’s just for my bad back! If the kids let me, then some chipping and putting.
Handicap, I’m working on it. – Edit: Feb 2013 still, working on it. |

These days, seeing as I’m not getting any younger, (despite retaining my youthful, boyish, good looks) ......I now exercise religiously each day. I do my “sit ups” seven days a week (I sit up once in the morning, and then lay back down again each evening). I also do the odd stretch …. (usually when retrieving my dart, after dropping it on course when it was my turn to either tee off or putt.) I also lift weights … (my golf bag in and out of the car at least once a day.) I am also quite heavily into yoga …..... You’ll often see me on course these days, balancing on one foot with my other foot up near my knee (busy cleaning out some kangaroo crap from between my spikes) Aside from the above physical exercises I also work these days on my pre shot routine, which I think is crucial to playing you’re best golf. My aim is to get it refined to a reliable, concise and efficient three step process, Eg, Step 1 …..see the distance required, Step 2 .. go to my golf bag. Step 3 …... quickly run thru my patented “eeny, meeny, miney mo”, club selection process.

Hit an impact bag. Putt over a 5 cent piece – 10 in a row or start again. Pitch to a golf or girl mag 10 in a row or start again. If at first you don’t succeed read one of the mags. One will improve you mind, one will improve your touch.
