Challenge a Pro

I for one am greatful for any advice on isg. When it’s from trained professionals or panelists with years of experience I take a bit more notice.
Not all advice is for everyone and I’m sure we have different views and opinions. I like to try and evaluate for myself as I’m sure other isg members do also. If I disagree I may make a suggestion of my own and then move on. It is after all a forum where discussion is made and each is entitled to take from it what they want.
By all means challenge a opinion and give your view but for the benefit of others. Your point isn’t required to be absolute.
It would be ashame for those who need the help, like myself, from pros and better players alike to lose that opportunity so you can be right.
We’ve already lost some with vast experience who we can no longer ask.

I might have missed a vital piece of news, but it seems there has been a reconfiguration of topic categories and the pros have deserted us.

Does this mean that hackers can now tell the low markers what to do so they can become hackers too?

Allegingbow,

It is not so hard. You get a long way on the simplest common sense.

A few things are not common sense. The natural rotation of the club and the arc of approach.

People naturally try to swing towards the target with the clubface square so they slice. Watch any good strikers, they come from behind their bum and roll into impact. The rest is common sense.

You normally learn a lot when you get really aggressive and just bash the sucker.

Believe it or not Dart that made a lot more sense than you’d think.

AllegingBow,

Good on you.

I have just gone back to teaching people at my old club after 30 years. Most are old pupils. My dilemma was, what the fcuk do I say to them.

To my delight I was able to give them all I knew that they needed about TGM, Zenolink, Hogan’s modern fundamentals and everything in a few simple drills. The drills that I disdained as a teenager.

If I had listened to any old pro for 5 minutes I would have achieved my goals. I can’t believe the knowledge I ignored in 40 years.

I think the words I did not work with are ponder and explore. I was familiar with durr, bullshit, and dickhead.

Was it their lack of salesmanship or my cheapskate, not willing to pay the price, wanting something for nothing or very little.

The older and more desperate I got the more I paid for lessons and the more I learned.

Even if you pay for a shit lesson you have learned what not to do and who not to go to – maybe.

The major lesson I got from a pro who won 150 tournaments and shot 70 course records in Australia and was rated 7 in the world in 1978, I pass on to most of my pupils but ignored at the time.

9 words when we were walking on the beach. He could not sleep and could not eat breakfast because the butterflies ate it anyway. He did win that day.

He said “swing like you do when your feet are together”.

I thought, something else, like where else can I look. That can’t be it.

He was very bright. At the time I was not.

I’ve seen that tip before, Dart (swing with your feet together to get the feel).

I’ll take it seriously now and try it.

Anything else I shouldn’t ignore? Try and keep the list short.

yes that is correct.;)

A few pros are still around but all been busy. Its open to a more general topic if people want that which it seems in most cases. If you have specific questions for a pro or person then go for it as well.

I’m still around Allege—if you might have included me in that group… Have been busy with interviews for a new job and have been presenting G P S to prospective professionals in my region. I have 8 new pros interested in G P S Player’s Academies, and am beginning to organize my coming summer (still potential for snow around here…)

I am also working on a couple of new products for G P S, at least one of which I will be able to share—hopefully soon!

The golf swing has been broken into so many parts that it’s often difficult for some to get back to the real aspects of playing the game… I hope to continue to remedy that…....

OldBogey,

According to a man who won 9 Majors the best swing was that of a lady called Joyce Wethered and she used to practice with one hand at a time.

A practice swing or pitching gives great advantage. To me, you can’t destroy a golf swing with one hand. It takes two and few dopey ideas.

We rely entirely on our sense of touch to swing well, our kinesthetic sense. Swing with eyes closed and even hit pitch shots.
