No true to his word he paid up…...but his putting was pretty terrible. a cutting de-cel stroke. lots of short right di’ers where what he was hitting. Serious question though, im curious as to how much scott believes his improved his putting from then to now and is it aimpoint that has helped.

Well as you seen first hand my putting was terrible.Since coming back to golf I struggle big time with my putting, I could not read a green to save myself. Since doing aimpoint in the last 12 months I have improved a lot. After doing the refresher course and learning the new midpoint reading, I expect to break 30 into the high 29’s as I developed these new skills and apply them over the next 12months

fair enough. and how many rounds do you take into consideration to get these averages? would you take it over the last month or 12 months?

My golf has no relevance to the topic, so if people only started doing aimpoint for one month and their stats improved that doesn’t count. My putting improved over the last 12 months, it’s still a work in progress although I’m happy with the improvements so far. What I do know is if wasn’t for aimpoint I would be still struggling. As a kid I developed my skills to putt and was a pretty good putter. I never knew how I read greens I learn it through hundreds of hours of practice and playing. Sadly those skills were lost due to head trauma in my accident. Basically I had to learn golf all over again. The last round I shot prior to the accident was 67. The doctors told me I would never play golf again. That hurt. That’s when reality set, when my first game back was 108. I then went searching for answers and failed until I found Zeno which helped me get my ball striking back. The same for putting I knew there had to be an answer so I went searching globally by chance a friend and client of mine in Ireland knew about aimpoint and he said Scotty you have to do this. He introduced me to Jamie Donaldson in the UK. I started researching about Aimpoint, could this be a solution to my putting problems? Then in a conversation with Steve Guiliano he mentioned he was going to the US and become an Aimpoint instructor , eventually Mark Sweeney and Jamie Donaldson were coming out to train him up. After Steve came back from the US he showed me a few ideas on how it worked, finding straight etc and the further you moved in a circumference away from straight line the more the ball broke.Closer to straight less amount of break. I went away and played with these ideas which helped my with my reads. Once Mark and Jamie came out I signed to do a clinic. After doing the clinic I was impressed and called up all my clients and said you need to learn this new skill it could help you. These days I recommend it to all my coaches who are clients of mine around the world and their students. It’s another tool which can help their golf. I wish people would pull their heads out of the sand, start opening up their minds and looking around on what’s going on around the world outside of Australia. Aimpoint is highly regarded world wide and has credibility. It’s like 3D as well, people had a good look around they would know coaches world wide are now going down this road as well. Come here on iseek Aimpoint etc gets called a scam etc, just because they have never heard of it before. The non believers or skeptics shoot something down in flames before they even research or try it first.

Something I’ve never understood about AimPoint, or any system where you feel the break with your feet, is how you are not in breach of Rule 16-1 Touching Line of Putt.

Your feet dont actually touch the line your shoes do ;)

Brian Gay is doing the feet reading thing on every putt now. Only slightly less freaky than Keegan’s possessed head spinning dominant eye routine

I did the clinic today and they were actually very strong on this point – emphasizing that you need to approach the put from the low side and stand well clear of the line so that you don’t infringe the rule. The material is also clearly marked as to what uses you can put it to without violating any rules.

It struck me today while i was contemplating the very back edge of a massive green of 2 tiers with buried ceramonial elephants, tilted on its side, with general ice rink speed and multiple breaks but uneven speed near pin, how would aim point go – or is it just a matter of accepting a 2 putt scenario?

Their advance class talks about how to read multiple breaks. Not many in Aus have gotten that far! You use a compass and a level?;)

Kiwi, they had run out of levels to buy, but I have left my details to order one. I agree with you that it would be a bIt pointless trying to practice and improve your reads without it. To be honest I think that the biggest issue for me will be getting my speed and distance consistent, without which all the reads go out the window. I think I will definitely use the principles – I just have to try and streamline the process a little so I don’t feel like a complete nob standing just off my line spinning like a top with my eyes closed EDITED to fix spelling and grammar

madam today at work i built 4 little platforms 400×400mm using 19mm ply wood. i cut and glued a rubber backed wool tile to the ply so not slippery in golf shoes.

Yep, my eyes and feet! Seriously im not questioning, was interested but a bit too expensive and i thought id need to make a serious commitment to using it and not sure i f i can do it currently, like kiwi says homework at home.. A cert for pros, not sure about me. And not sure about the even speed thing, two courses i use each have 2 speed greens and opposite (my speed is a bit random) Is that usual – 2 speed greens that is not my randomness!

Thank you, how gentlemanly of you. I will definitely look forward to stealing your coach’s drill and seeing if it works for me.

XmaggieX, the theory of the aimpoint includes charts for different green speeds. So if you play on two different courses with two different stimps, then you should be able to switch easily between the charts so long as you remember which chart belongs with which course. The principles of reading the break and all of that would not change – so all of the information that you would input would be the same, just the outcome would be different. For the cost, I figured that it was worth two and a bit lessons with my normal pro. I decided that I was prepared to invest that in my putting and seeing whether it could improve what I was doing. And I certainly feel like I could continue to get improvement out of my putting by learning how to better apply the aimpoint principles and then using appropriate drills to improve. So, I look at it that I got
As a relative newcomer to golf, this is a pretty comprehensive set of information to help me improve my putting in a range of areas. But I figure that whether or not I get my money’s worth out of it will depend on whether I actually practice the skills and then implement it into my game.

Excellent description, maybe nxt yr….cheers! Ps i actually meant each club had two speed greens, one small spongy greens, slower on outer cicle then quicker last 6 ft closer to pin. The other much larger hard slick contoured and lightening fast until about 6ft to pin and then slightly slower…different grasses i guess….anyone elses greens vary like that? Hopefully its not all in my imagination:-)

Interesting comments guys! I learned Aimpoint about 3 years ago and it is very valuable—and the more of the process you do the more valuable it is. My take on it is that it gives you all of the tools for success, but without charting the greens and pin placements ahead of time there is much that may not be applicable on a given day. You get out of it what you put in. I mapped the greens at Tetherow not long after and it was very helpful in the long run. So Kiwi, how much of it are you using on a daily basis, and how far along are you—greens mapped, etc? And stepping back a notch, have you been fitted for alignment and loft in your putter?
