Scott, this is confusing to me,I have forever pointed clubface at intended target chose my swing path……the ball (for me) has always started somewhat on the same “path” and “ends ” up on intended target……...never really had any heartaches this way,.........the way “D”plane has it doesnt make sense to me.

Im not saying it is right or wrong……Im just not understanding…can you clear up my poor addled mind cheers

Browman,
It depends there is so many variables to consider.
We have three paths outside to in, straight down the line (inside, square back inside) and inside to out. A golfer naturally produces one of these paths.

Hitting as example: we align our club face at the target and set up our feet alignments parallel or square for a draw. To be effective we need to be straight down the line path.
Lets consider a draw if we move the ball back we are hitting the ball on an inside to out path the face is closed to the path. Although the face is open to the target line. You thinking huh?:)What this means is the face at impact is pointing in between the right somewhere in between our path and the target line.

View this video will help you get a better picture. D plane inside to out path

Depending on how much we are inside to out and how much the face is closed to the path depends on how close the ball starts to our path. Just say you are 4 degrees inside out, if the face is only closed 1/2 a degree or at most 1 degree the ball will start closer to your path and draw slightly back towards the target, but will not start on your path. Although if the face was closed 2 and 1/2 degrees to your path the ball would start closer towards the target line than the path .The face would be pointing at impact closer towards the target line. Is this making sense, hard to explain in writing lol.

However if your path is 4 degrees inside to out of the target line and your face is 4 degrees closed at impact your face would be pointing at the target. The ball would pull hook or start at the target then hook left.

As an assumption Browman your path maybe only 2 degrees inside to out. maybe three at most inside to out, your face may be closed 1 degree closed to your path, is why is starts closer to your path. When you point the face at the target sounds like a set up procedure for you, which works very well for you. This ensures the face is closed to your path at impact and the opposite for a fade is to ensure the face is open to your path. Take this as a grain of salt though mate it’s just an educated guess at best, we would need data to be sure.

My path is mega inside to out, for me to draw I just set up all my alignments to the target, keep the face open to the target (face is closed to my path though) I open the face in the direction I want to start my ball and my ball starts right and draws back. To fade I set up my alignments still square 40 yards right so my inside to out path is heading left side of the fairway. I then open my face to my path, I open the face where I want to start the ball so the ball fades. I have to wing how far the ball will fade from there. Through grinding balls you quickly learn these skills.
If I aim left and pointed my face at the target, then take my grip with all open face, I would have to shut the face down so that the face would be pointing at impact, in between my path and the target line. If I didn’t the ball would start at the target and slice right. Because the face is open so much it would miss the fairway or totally miss a green right. To risky doing it this way. It’s easier to control the face staying open than it is to control how much you let it shut down.

What is the difference between ‘Trackman’ and ‘Proflight’.

Brand only, but seem to take the same measures?

Tackleberry,
In ways they measure some of the same things, accuracey is the question. Trackman is doplar radar, tracks the ball inflight you get better data and a ton more data. TM are more accurately measuring D-plane, than others.
Although flightscope isn’t far behind and catching up.
The indoor model ball flight monitors aren’t that acurate. Even TM advise with there system to use it out doors. 10 ft isn’t enough data get an accurate reading what the ball is doing in flight.

Tackle where I find where there is advantages of TM is the accuracey of telling us what the club face and path is doing. The others are very questionable and found not that accurate.

Scotty,

Many thanks for organising the day yesterday with your good self, Bryan and Craig …....... it was pretty interesting indeed .. not often you get a tip off an Aussie Master’s winner I wouldn’t think.

The session gave me a few things to think about, and also re-inforced some things that I’ve been trying to incoporate into my tee shots, in particular.

Good fun to catch up with the rest of the guys too. Now to put that new learning into practice.

Thanks again Scotty …......

Sorry I missed this. Completely slipped my mind.

Your welcome Gaz,
Was a great day and we all learnt plenty. Craig sent me an email to let you know he will email your data should be today. He said every time he went to use the laptop used for Trackman some one else wanted use it. LOl.

The session really benefited Joe when I was on the practice fairway the other say he was there oh fire truck I left my face open there, now I closed the face. For him the session was gold, now he understands what is causing his erratic shots at times and knows how to correct them now.

After we went out for 9 holes he hit 6 fairways and 5 greens. The fairways miss were first cut and the greens missed weren’t far away. I actually go to know him and have a good chat generally he’s out in the timber some where. lol

My other client for about 12 months I have been trying to convince him according to the Zeno data he’s inside to out path, he wouldn’t have it. He was convinced he was out to in path. TM numbers he was 10 inside to out. He was hitting these snap hooks on the odd occasion, thinking he was out side path, he swung even further out to the right making the issues worse. I’d been trying to get him to work his hands more left although he struggled to grasp why.
For him it was an eye opener and realised why we were trying to work his hands more left. Be interesting to see his progression now.

Thanks to every one for coming down it was a great day.

Gaz,
Here is what happens when you hit a shot in the toe. This shows the gear effect Bryan was walking about regards the gears very interesting.
Toe shot face opens and ball draws

Scott. That vid made me think of your billiard ball analogy.
Is that what you were getting at?

I’m going to have to have a sit down with Bryan.
I sent him a text last week saying that when I’m back in March we start playing lessons and zenolink.
