Hi all, I just wanted to post my swing video (sorry thats it’s a short vid) Im currently happy with how im swinging it but if you see any flaws in the swing i would like hear back some feedback to make me a better player!

My swing

Wow, nice.

What is this golf game you talk of?

awesome….

nice swing

whats your bad shot

high right?

long, short, left and right = ALL FINGERED

Very nice action, your only problem is you are standing on the wrong side of the ball.

Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game!

My bad shot is a short iron draw, or with the driver its a toe draw

must be a trick of the video, I thought you were hitting the ball backwards…hahaha

the draw on the irons might come from a slightly shut club-face as most easily seen on the half-way point of the backswing.
only a little bit shut in this video but if it stays a little more shut on a “lazy” takeaway…

nevertheless, if you are playing to a 4mark, you must be doing something pretty right, pretty consistently and pretty often too.

its a great swing… totally

i see it as a timing based swing that i recon you can go really low, but also really inconsistently high too….when you are off.

long, short, left and right = ALL FINGERED

I know what you mean hackpro, Those days when my swing is off my ball striking goes downhill quickly

The swing looks solid in the vid., maybe a little rushed. Maybe your bad days are when the swing gets quick. With longish swings like yours the backswing needs to be more deliberate and the transition an unhurried drop straight down towards the feet. A hurried transition can encourage the left arm and shoulder to come in too early in a longish backswing, creating a power leak.

Fantastic swing mate…really nice. Tempo is good and you have tremendous extension.

Your first movement is a slight sway forward…I took a couple of screen shots.

This is the top of your backswing, you have kept your body perfectly still…fantastic!

This is your first movement…notice your hips, shoulders are forward? – your legs are pretty good, slight collapse, head stays still…I would try focussing on turning your hips better.

So what this does is means your COG is slightly forward, hands and club need to try and keep up and you will effectively flip…probably not real good. You’ll also lose some of the lag I bet you really build up when you swing well. Here is the shot of your lag, and where I think you should be with your lag (in red)

This is a very minor fault, but will mean the difference between being on the fairway and being in the rough, or being near the pin or being right of the green. There are much smarter men than I on here, they can give you some good drills on what to focus on. I would try to ‘crush the can’ with your front foot and make sure you turn your hips, not sway (it is very, very slight)

Great swing!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys!

ill upload another longer video soon with some more swings so you can get a more detailed view on my swing.

I’ve done some work with Peter Knight the Tasmanian state coach, and we have worked on my shoulders and hips at address, he says that they are a little flat but im not sure if you can see it on this video because its only short

Yes, it is obvious. A feeling of the left hip higher than the right at address with a high right shoulder is the way to go. An inward rotated left knee in the address position will lift the left hip higher and provide more resistance during the pivot. Listen to your coach, he knows his stuff. Not a good idea looking for advice on a forum when you have a State coach advising you.:-)

aha!
aint that the truth
the worst coach is the well-meaning amateur!

I know what you mean razaar but I do like hearing feedback on my swing… you never know., somebody might see something in my swing and it might just work!

I do have the feeling of my hips ‘sliding’ sometimes so my swing thought is clearing the hips and rotating them instead of sliding

agree that you should listen to a coach that you trust.

Ray, please remember that a few of us do know what we’re talking about…the young bloke asked he can choose what he listens to. For me, because his swing is so pure that the ever-so-slight fault sticks out.

This young fella will be on tour if he keeps at it, it will be nice to say we all helped him when he holds up the claret jug :)

I’ve played with 2 touring pros on the oneasia tour and i can tell you there is a long way to go before even considering turning pro!

Then I suggest that you discuss with your coach the issue of transferring your weight across during the takeaway before the pivot and transferring the weight to the right side before the pivot unwinds and why the hips need to high on both sides to support the pivot. A pic showing how the femurs are attached to the ball joint in the pelvis will provide some background info.

Thanks razaar, I will do

I’d kill for the kind of flexibility in my shoulders and torso
Great looking swing mate

Wilsonstaff,
You have some potential although my concerns are the excessive lateral bending of the upper body on your downswing is going to cause you back injuries in the future. This is also causing your mechanical issues.

The Excessive bending is what us causing your draws and bad shot is a hook , other miss is a push slice. I’ll explain in full why.

If you slow mo your swing, take very close notice to your right foot. The heel is of the ground at impact and your foot loses connection with the ground during your swing. What happens is you spin and slide your hips, this is contributing to your the excessing left lateral bending (Side bending).

On your downswing you go into excessive left bending, this move causes the club to drop way inside behind you.(Have a look in slow mo you can see right elbow behind right hip pocket). This move also causes you to get very STEEP. (this also contributes to the lower body issues above). Your path would be too far inside to out.

In addition what also happens from excessive bending is it causes the spine to kink or the facets lock. (To understand what I’m saying, Stand up now side bend left for me. Now try and rotate to your right see how you can’t rotate yeah?.) When you spine locks from bending it cause the upper body to slow down too early in your downswing. To compensate your arms accelerate and start Rotating to early.(Path to far inside to out, Your face is closed to your path Walla there is your draw or at times a hook.
To fight a hook you then have to pull on the handle try hold the face open, you do this, to try and match the club face to your path, at times you can over cook it, open the face too much and hit push slices.

A suggesting work on turning your shoulders more perpendicular to your spine. To you it will feel over the top big time, I guarantee you won’t be. By doing this it with improve your path significantly and stop you getting steep.
Also I would hit hundreds of balls out of the bunker. (full shots). Screw your feet into the sand to get traction. This will help your connect with the ground and improve your lower body action.

To be totally honest it’s a break down in your coordination patterns it’s more a biomechanical break down than a mechanical breakdown. The break down in your biomechanics is causing the mechanical issues. You really want to fix this problem proerly you need to train your biomechanics or coordination patterns if you want to step up to the next level.

Im not sure this is irrelevant to my swing, but after playing a couple days straight i can narrow down the pain to one spot, the bottom of my ribcage on the left side
