Tom,

I am not sure what Steve is doing but if he were doing that I would approve.

Teaching that exact same thing to day, 5 times – I am always shocked at the difference it makes to a pupil who has a few other things right.

You are talking about alignments of a kind but they are useless without good physics. Balance, rhythm and up tempo sort of action, which I know Steve has.

I am loath to recommend any one thing about a golf swing/hit because performance requires the total involvement of multiple factors.

I know most of us are looking for that one thing that works like before – but you need the whole story.

Happy hunting Tom.

Thanks Dart. I. Have used and studied TGM in the past and after watching Stricker it has convinced me to go back to that shaft in line with right forearm and what a bloody difference. I am back to that breaking glass sound as club compresses ball as it does with Chip. Pitch. Punch and really helps me to eliminate the active hands. Mate Im hunting all the way round with a big smile on the Dial :):):)

Im the other Tom Watson and I once got a Bronze Medallion Lifesaving Certificate whilst wearing striped pyjamas.

My game is always good until I put the driver in my hand and then its a bloody lottery. Now having said that if I get the shaft in line with the right forearm at address my driver improves, Im not saying I hit it any longer but it seems to be more consistent. It never feels like a strong position arching the wrists but it works. That Homer bloke knew his stuff, I just wish he had written his book in a language I could understand:)

Tom,
If he used words we understood without study, we would be of the same limited view still.

Happy studying.

G’day Paul.
Haven’t been on here in a while. I’ve been through a bit of a bad patch. Handicap has blown back out to 20, but the last 2 rounds have been better and I think I’m ready to get it back down again.

I had a couple of bad rounds at a couple of courses that I don’t particularly like, and it destroyed my game for about 6 weeks. I would have a reasonable front nine, and then an absolute shocker on the back. Only one good round in that time until the two most recent ones.

The second last round, I just kept telling myself to stick to my processes. It was a stroke event, so I was pleased that there were no major blowout holes, and a couple of good ones. Then the last round was a stableford where I had 37 points, 16 on the front and 21 on the back. My handicap went out from 19.4 to 19.5 because of the vagaries of the handicapping system, but I was pleased with my decision making when I was in trouble. This enabled me to salvage bogeys in most cases, and even par on one of the holes where I probably hit my worst drive of the day.

It was interesting that after the Saturday event, the 8 marker who played with our group commented that I struck the ball well.

greeneye,

Talent is unmistakable and you have it.

Stick with the process and you will improve for ever.

EVERYONE play s some crap but the secret is to stay with the plan you believe is right.

I don’t know about talent. I just think I’ve got to work harder than anybody else because of my lack of talent. So that when I do get to where I want, it will be because of the amount of work I’ve put in.

If anyone gets the chance watch a very short video on youtube by Yoda. In it he refers to TGM book and asks. Are you prepared to roll on that line.

Very short video and really to the point .

Im the other Tom Watson and I once got a Bronze Medallion Lifesaving Certificate whilst wearing striped pyjamas.

Tom,

I have not seen the video but golfers naturally don’t roll and swing left of the line.

If I can’t feel the swing, I do the same so I can find my ball.

I shake that crap first chance I get. I don’t enjoy performing at half my best.

Dart,
Lynn was talking about item 22. DELIVERY LINE ROLL PREP in a discussion of pressure point 3. “Are you ready to roll on that line?”
This was in a GSE class, subject “Pressure point #3, where are you?”

The checkpoint is in Section 6 The Top and is discussed in 4-D-0 Release Motion.
It’s one of only two checkpoints that are capitalized. The other is 39. ON LINE HINGE ACTION through Impact.

I’m pretty sure he was talking about hinge action and pressure point 3 and perhaps sequential versus simultaneous uncock and roll for swinger versus hitter.

So it’s about feeling the lag pressure on top of the shaft or aft of the shaft in the index finger of the right hand and what hinge action you intend to use.

Loren,

Thanks for the heads up. I had a pretty good idea what it was. Spot on as usual.

So simple and so simply missed :) Our brains are misprogrammed for this action.

G’day Paul. Have been watching the Ask the TGM guys thread with interest. A question just occurred to me regarding my swing, and how it appears to you. From what you have seen of my swing, do you think I am a hitter or a swinger?

greeneye,

Let me see if you can answer your own question.

Are you more A. strong or B. quick?

Do you move A. shorter or B. longer?

Do have A. little hand action or B. lots of hand action.

Do you tend to A. draw the ball or B. fade the ball.

Do you feel you A. drive the club or B. pull the club.

Not always but A. is a hitter.

Not you, but if people can’t tell the difference they are new to the game.

Hi Paul,
I asked because I wanted to see if you agree with me. I can see by your answer that you do.

greeneye,

Happy hitting. I think you are very good at it. You are much more pure than most. You must get better because of you proximity to principle.

Paul,

It’s funny that when I play well there have been lots of iron shots during the round that I describe as “solid impact”. They make a certain sound as they hit the ball (followed by the solid thump as they hit the ground just after). During the last 16 months, that has probably been the part of my game that has improved, my iron shots, both long and short irons. They are usually on line, and if they are off line now, it is usually only a little bit off line.

The ball flight has changed from being a fade with the occasional straight shot, to mostly straight with the 4,5,6 irons, to a slight draw with the 7,8,9, PW. I can hit a big hooky 7 iron when I need to, that goes about an extra 30 metres. Very useful for hitting around big trees.

Distances have gone up about 10 metres for all irons and my rescue clubs.

Now I have to work on my short game to improve my stats around the green.

It’s all good fun, and a journey of discovery. :)

greeneye,

I wish you life for all golfers. You will improve by doing the same things a little better.

Hi Paul,
I recently posted a question where i am in need of a new golf instructor in Sydney. Have you got a philosophy to your coaching? And do you take an active hands on approach to your students?
Im interested in a coach that can get me to single figures and cares about me getting there….

Thanks

Andy,

The way to good teaching and learning is for us to get along like brothers.

Call anytime and see if we are related :)
