If the hands are not doing the right thing it is the pivots fault because it is the prime mover on more than half shots. For me it is all shots for simplicity. So we watch the hands with our sense of feel and work the pivot

When you get around to it you will find extensor action useful or heavy lag pressure. Both make the swing a stronger, heavier construct.
