im happy with my irons, but driving aint so great when i have my normal comfortable grip, my irons are good by i slice my drivers. im thinkin about using my comfortable grip for irons, and use a stronger grip for driving? is it a bad habit to get into? or do some people do this?

Why not have 2 different grips for 2 different clubs? I have 3 grips – one for my irons, one for my driver and one for putting. Maybe I’m a bit left field but I play my irons more in my fingers and my driver across the heart line on my hand using the pad of my hand (near my wrist) at the top of the grip (it cured my slice). Anyone else? Cheers, Mick

Geez, the experts may not agree with this. It’s funny how we all love to drag the big dog out at the driving range and smash it around but on the course it becomes the achilles heel for so many of us and we are scared to use it. For the record I am working very hard to make sure the big dog is treated exactly like every other club in my bag except I use a higher tee. Results are promising.

You may have invented a better way to play. I also have different grips for hitting and swinging. In the fist for hitting and dripping of my fingers for swinging. Stronger on a bad rotation day and weak otherwise. What ever does the job but I would change that driver. I refuse to teach a B grader with an A grade driver. It’s like trying to strike a match on a bar of soap.

Loovvve the analogy Dart,Never thought of it in that context but seems to hit a chord LMAO
You don't hit anything on your back swing so why rush
it!!!! |

I have tried a new grip at the range for my driver and although it feels ‘freaky weird’ it seems to work. I feel that I cant get any power into the swing, but of course that is a good thing as it stops me trying to hit it and the club does the work. Whitednj…I am never scared to use my driver, ever! I always get it out at every opportunity…the more you use it the better you get I say!

Yep, i strengthen my grip for the driver. If i use that grip with my irons i hit hooks. Don’t know if it’s a bad habbit or not, but it works.
