Northern Sydney golf coaches

G’day all,
first time on the forums…..wanting to know of golf coaches on the Northern side of Sydney that know there stuff, most pros I’ve been to work on minimal changes and I’ve often challenged them on this …..they then get that look in their eye…who are you to challenge me
I’ve got a couple of pet theories …
1. .in many cases I feel that the pro may be able to teach but doesn’t know how to learn…...they didn’t have to learn the basics ….it came instinctively….they were probably playing off single figures as kids…..yet I’d be ecstatic to play off 14-15…
2. Teaching a basic swing will actually iron out little faults that many pros will seem to centre their approach on….Simon Deep manaaged to throw my whole swing out by telling menothin more than “focus on hitting the back of the ball”...and hence no follow through and a bad back….but he didn’t want to listen….
So where should I head

There is only one…. our very own Paul Hart @ The Dart at Terrey Hills. You want the best, go see him. He will listen, but then again you have to do the same. Read through ‘The Golf School’ threads as well, you may very well find the answers you seek in there.

The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish.....

Welcome aboard “adriand”.

My view is until you have the big picture well in mind, then doing little bits is not of much help. Dart will help you find both concept and context to save you having to reinvent the wheel.

Paul Hart…then daylight

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

try Lorien Scott at Terrey Hills

Both of the above are good options AdrianD. As this forum supports if they don’t focus on your impact position and the process to improve it, go somewhere else. With the Dart, you are guaranteed a clear understanding of flat left wrist etc, which is too important to ignore. Knowing people who see Lorien Scott, he will also focus heavily on impact, although using potentially different methods to The Golf Machine approach Dart and this site uses.

Try around ‘till you find some one you like. I will buy you a cup of coffee and throw some ideas around if you like.

Sympathetic Dart.

Is Gary Churcher still the pro at Long Reef?

He was my first coach and although he’s not known as “Mr Personality” he can add a lot of value to your swing. He got me from 23 to 9 within 12 months (actually, about 8 months) with some great drills and simple explanations. This was in the early ‘90s.

Lol I will second that.

100% perfect is a sad neurotic state of mind. Better than yesterday is saner. - Dart, 2008.

Gary Churcher has left us and is moving to Victoria. Down near Bell,s Beach.

I wish him all the best with his sea change. I will miss him for one.

Gary should be celebrated as a guy who did loads of work for local charities. I wish he had of made his sea change to warmer climates like up my way.

Dart, his wife Jenny was very sick a few years ago. Is she still around (alive)?

I think so mate or I would have heard. I will check with the old boys tomorrow.

wow…..
What advice….I haven’t had this many people talk to me since the Nov election !!
Been a bit buy this weekend “Father Of The Bride”....so hadn’t got to the site
As an avid reader of the more alternative golf approaches….George Knudson, Gerry Hogan, Chuck Hogan and David Blair (very good actually )....and all the traditionals…. Five Lessons and Homer Kelly, Nicklaus etc….would love to talk and improve…presume the above is your e-mail address ?........what do you think of my line on pros knowing how to teach but not how to learn

White and Dart,

Gary left Longy last year as you rightly said Dart. His wife Jenny was still in the shop buzzing about until Gary left, so I assume that they are both enjoying life down in Victoria.

OC

Thanks for the update.

You can always call the PGA and leave your No. They will get Gary to call you back.

Hi Adriand,

I’d like to echo the words of JP_MEL and optimalcadence that Lorien Scott would be a good choice… as it’s me.. :-) Thank you both for your kind words and recommendations.

To your point, I’d definitely agree that most pros have been instinctive and don’t grasp what it feels like for others who are learning. I find part of my relationship with a student is to understand what their current instincts are, what their current perception and understanding of the swing is and what they need to feel/understand to help them on their way. To do this I have to be forever learning from their feedback. It definitely isn’t a ‘do-as-I-say’ approach and has to be a two-way street, otherwise it isn’t beneficial my students improvement or my ability to help them improve. This is something I’m very passionate about. I’m also an avid reader of golf instruction, but I have to say that most of what I’ve learnt about how to coach is from my students, and I’m grateful to them, not only for teaching me, but for sending more golfers my way who are keen to allow me to help them.

Hopefully this helps and I’d love to be able to help you in your endeavours.

Lorien Scott

Go see darty, if you like simplicity and education how to play better golf, he’s the best man for the job

I don’t know what Lorien teaches.

I may have to book in for a lesson and find out.

I can tell he is keen and would like to be able to recommend him.

Thanks all for the responses…..have got some time with the Dart tomorrow….will let you know how I go….should be a real challenge for him because most of you guys seem to be off single figures..or close to it…..he’s got a real challenge with a 22 marker…....
This could be a good forum topic…..current handicaps and how they have moved around during the years….has anybodys dropped over the past few years….as one gets older ???

Hi Lorien…...The Dart got in first !!!!
