Why driving high?

Hi Golf guru
I’m hand. 21 with a 9.5 loft stiff shaft and 10 regular shaft and still drive the ball too high.
A good drive is about 210 m. I tried to position ball back from left foot but created a severe power fade, in an effort to hit it with a lower launch BUT shorten drive to 185 m.

I should just tee lower, right?

Not sure but sounds like you may be coming down on the ball rather than sweeping it of the tee.

You could try flattening your take-away a little to encourage a shallower angle of attack at the ball on impact.

Greg Norman, proof that lots of sex before a major competiton is good for you. ;)

Why do you want to hit it lower?

You can hit the ball on the up and generate a very low spin rate which allows height with penetration.

Lets not confuse tradjectory with penetration.

Feel it, execute it, live with it.

you may be flipping it a bit.

down and out…did ya get that?

Toolish will be close to the money for most high tee hitters there.
If your left wrist is bent coming into the ball, the stamped loft on the driver will bear no relationship to the 15 or higher loft you actually hit the ball with.

Playing it back in the stance means a chop at the ball and most high hitters will then end up learning backwards to get the loft back onto the ball to try to get back to their old distances. It is a progression teachers see all over the world.

So your best bet is to get the ball up under your left shoulder and learn to keep a Flat Left Wrist (which comes with a Bent Right on attached). Hit up the Golf School articles, get a beer (come on beer sponsors where are you??) and a few light bulbs will fire up.

Yeh,
I was cocking it a bit so maybe my left wrist is not flat.
I’ll try it this week end.
tks

Cocking it is fine and a great source of power. Bending is death.

What’s the diff. btw cocking and bending? Is deliberate cocking OK?
Cheers

Cocking is increasing the angle between the shaft and forearm.

If you put your arm out in front of you fingers pointing straight, thumb pointing up, that will give you a FLAT Left Wrist vs the forearm. Now bend the wrist so the fingers point at the target keeping the forearm in the same place….BENT condition.

Reverse the fingers to point away form the target and now you have an ARCHED condition.

Deliberate cocking is OK for special shots. Normal cocking happens as the right arm bends in the backswing.

Tks Guru
I was just reading those articles on ‘plane’ and realize my grip has changed lately to a more palm grip!!!!!
I have forgotten the fundamental of the last 3 fingers grip!!!!
You are so patient, thanks
I’ll buy you a pack of 4 Hoegarten beer when I meet you.

Sounds good to me:) Where is Hoegarten beer from? Sound like a wild beer garden in Germany!

If BENT is Death,

Keeerect, as Homer would say.

Hoegaarden is a Belgian White Beer brewed in the town of that name.

Arched is better than bent as it prevents the clubhead getting thrown away. In teaching a FLW to some students you can exaggerate for a habitual Bender ( boy is that going to get a chuckle from some) getting them to feel that they hit the ball with an Arched wrist. What happens is they get the same Bend going on a little later so they arrive at the ball with a FLW. Once they see the result, they try really hard to break the habit.

Hi Folks
In an effort to drive at a lower trajectory, i positioned the ball half way btw left heal and centre which made me sliced. Also attempting to release better, I must have bowed my left wrist. Going back to basic old position, I have reduced my slice to a power fade and drives about 190-200m with slower tempo and more relax hands.

Is a trajectory of 55-60 deg. from the ground correct?
Tks.

Stick to the hoegaarden…great beer!

The difference between golf and the government is that in
golf you can't improve your lie!

Good launch angles for higher handicappers around 15 degrees.

Read Fix Your Swing Part One and Two to see where and why the balls goes somewhere in your stance:)

hoegaarden is the nectar of the gods!

hoegaarden is the nectar of the gods!

Its also bloody expensive over here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey folks …... stick to golf.

Been to the beer garden? they have Hoegaarden on tap but pricey.

Now 15 deg launch angle !!! that for a pro. What’s average for handicap 14.

I’ll read fix my swing. tks.

i fixed my high isusse by cuping my left wrist at the top of my back swing

trying my hardest

ellimb: your required launch is dependent up on your swing speed. Pros Launch angles are much lower. 14-15 is good for mere mortals as a rule of thumb.

Brissy: do you mean bent left wrist at the top? Or arched? Either way beware a fix which is not Flat as its layering a possible issue onto the previous issue. Beware the Dark Side.
