Driving Range

Hey all, I work away from home but do have the luxury of a driving range at work. On the range I seem to be hitting them pretty good for my ability, but when Im at my home course I can say “rubbish”. So is there a chance apart from just being a bad golfer or could it be using different clubs while Im away to what I use at home course.?

small bit of both.

You need to ‘play’ as much as you practice. Ranges can be deceptive because they are wide open and there is no trouble on them.

If the clubs are vastly different it can make a difference but only a small one.

As Styles said the clubs will only make a small difference. A little more info about your game on course will certainly help the brains trust point you in the right direction.

Personally I think it is a mental issue. On the range you don’t have the “pressure” of performance. You don’t have a playing partner, variables like hazards to deal with, putting, etc

Do you have a clear key and a shot routine in place?

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.

Scoring and hitting the ball are different parts to the game. When at the range if you aim at nothing you will hit it every time:)

Taking the range mechanics to the course is then a case of “OK now I know how to hit a few shots, how do they apply to this or that circumstance.”

As a “fly in fly outer” (at a guess) you rather need to have a bit of a guided idea as to what to do with your R&R range. You could have a ball whilst learning with a bit of help.

Chuck in with those that at the range you generally aim with the mat, when you get out on the course alignment becomes a massive problem I find. Aiming one way or the other instead of straight causes all sorts of dramas! Definitely worth checking.
