The Australian Long Drive Championships 2008 Schedule:

Long Drive Events this year are focused around fewer but bigger events:

Event Date and Venue

1 QLD State Long Drive Championships Sunday 10th August, 2008 Redland Bay Golf Club
2 NSW State Long Drive Championships Sunday 17th August, 2008 Riverside Oaks Golf Course
3 Victorian State Long Drive Championships T.B.A
4 Australian Long Drive Championships Fri 12th September to Sunday14th August 2008 Penrith Panthers, NSW

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

Entry to the State Championship events is open to all and registrations are on the day. The State Long Drive Championships will also include rounds of the Australasian Long Drive Tour.

Approximate Schedule For State Championship events:

8:30 Registrations Open
9:00 State Long Drive Championships begin.
12:00 Lunch Break
12:30 Long Drive clinic – Long drivers will talk to the crowd and demonstrate hitting techniques. They will also talk about training and equipment.
1:30 Continuation of the State Long Drive Championships
3:00 State Long Drive Championship ends
3:00 Last Man Standing (open to everyone – you get one ball to hit a certain distance, then move to the next round until there is just one person left!
3:10 Presentation of State Champions
3:20 Australasian Tour Round
5:00 Finish

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The Australian Championships will be run over 3 days.

On the Friday elimination rounds will be held for Open Men’s competitors. There may also be some elimination round for the Open Men’s competitors on the Saturday.
All other categories will have eliminations on the Saturday.
Sunday is for the final playoffs.
This year the Australian Championships will be an open event. International competitors will be able to compete and win the Australian Championships (including any relevant qualifying to the World Long Drive Championship Finals).

I know I can’t have worked any harder mate. Hopefully it will pay off! Due to the steep learning curve I have faced this year, I will be just putting forth 100% effort with no expectations. I think I will surprise a few people though.

I can definitely say though watch out in 2009, this year has been a big learning period. When I get a full years prep knowing what I am doing rather than guessing, with respects to strength and conditioning and technical training, I know it will be a whole new AB they will be facing next year!
