Downswing sequence

To get the most consistent and powerful strike on the ball what should I “feel” first when initiating my downswing?

Knees? Hips? Shoulders?

I’ve been working on my backswing and think I’m getting into a decent position at the top if my stance is correct so my downswing is what I need help with now. (As well as what I put in the other post. :P )

Golf is like a wife. Most of the time she slaps you around but, every now and then, she gives you something sweet which keeps you going back again and again like the poor sap that you are.

Golf’s a Bitch but we love her. ;)

A theory by me o.O

Different guys will give different start down cues but I favour the little left hip bump, followed by the getting the right elbow down to and just in front of the right hip.

The left arm sweeps the crumbs of your chest whilst this is going on also.

Hold back on your right shoulder rotation too as you resist all temptations to throw the club head out at the ball. Your pivot will take care of that as your left arm pulls down on the club handle and your right arm straightens into, but not before, impact.

If you manage all that ok then the finish largely takes care of itself - if you let it and don’t interfere.

That crumb sweep is pure magic.

What you should “feel” first on the downswing is your front foot pressing on the ground, this then transforms to the knees, hips etc
This create shear forces and torque so your pivot can rotate back to impact. This video will explain
The Bump

"Never guess what you can measure"

Why would you want to be balanced on your balls? This creates counterbalance issues during your swing making it hard to maintain spine posture.

Otherwise looks the idea.

I think the start down you have described is ‘spot on’ Burner.

However I think that having an awareness of being on plane with a FLW after impact really helps also.

Cheers

12shoc,

Turn your body back as far as you can before you move the club, then take the club back. Start down when you feel connected.

The feeling you get when you start down is called rhythm, all components moving at the same time; hopefully you hit and finish with the same feeling.

It is like a simultaneous orgasm only you can get it many times a day.

At my age that is worth working for.

Guru,
When measured down forces using pressure plates the centre of the balls of your feet produces the most amount of down force. Also for posture is the strongest position, a solid base to pivot from.
Swinggovenor teaches players to get the power train right and nail 6-m-1 to perfection. Awesome for hip bump.

Haha, you would be exhausted after a good round wouldn’t you!

Way to go!

Died of multiple orgasms whilst playing golf.

Smiling! I don’t care if it’s the first tee.

Watch the Open. Greg gets his off the golf course but that Korean dude gets it every swing.

I hope I am wrong and KJ Choi can’t get it up for tonight.

Well I’m happy to see KJ get it up all night, just not up and down!
