Discussion for The Power In Your Grip

Guru, darn good idea for an article. Power Control is probably the least understood factor in learning to play this game.

Met a couple of engineers the other day who are coming out with a way to measure certain things in the swing. It blew their minds how just by controlling the the wrist and forearm movements how one can effect their graphs from chip to full swing. It was a lot of fun to see the differences between hands speed and the different hinging that we can use.

Do you think there is a lot of confusion between hinging and finish swivels?

The hinge and finish swivel are very different. Hinging is through the impact zone. The finish swivel from both arms straight to complete the finish on plane.

I know that some teach the finish swivel so that their students find making the hinge easier to actually complete on time and this blurrs the line a little. The two actions can be learned in rhythm but it often needs to be learned as two actions joined up to begin with the latter seemingly a bit of a jerky after thought.

It will be interesting to see the engineers work when done.

Paul,

What’s with the angry face you are pulling during the lifeline series of photos ?

Spike,
Are these guys using, 3d technology using wireless sensors.
This has already been achieved, I can measure body motion and rotation speeds, hands speeds and hands rotations speeds, hips rotational speeds. with measured numbers and graphs with animation play back of the student and their swing on video all in one. and print out data of all moving body parts.
Fergi says hi as well, he’s going great guns

Yeah….... but….....can you cook?

:) :) :)

Hi back at the Fergmeister!

I’ll keep ya posted with the tech these guys are coming out with.
