Discussion for Hitting the Ball Thin

Nice article…would not expect anything less from Wayne though, a really nice guy willing to help anyone who asks.

Learning that lazy feeling is on my to do list as part of rehab for my shoulder and my swing!

One question though…why is it in the News section of the site?

down and out…did ya get that?

Yeh went up in the wrong spot – too quick Toolish :)

Wayne I believe is now working up in China, or is about to head that way.

Guru, any idea where in China?

Not off hand. The Dart knows but I think he is fishing for a couple of weeks in NZ. We will find out for you. Stay tuned.

Heh, in that hat Dart always looks like a fisherman. He should wear lures on it just for “color”. Like Lt. Col. Henry Blake in MASH.

Hmmm, we may have lost interest in discussing “Hitting it thin.”
In that picture #9 demonstration of and captioned “Follow through”, my silly brain said “Whoa, he missed the ball. He missed the ball.”

Correct Ball position helps

“The right arm is too short for golf.”

That’s a great line introducing a discussion of how and why the right arm stays bent for a long time. Until this, I hadn’t heard of this concept from anyone but my teacher. A well-done explanation, I thought.

Right arm straightening – do you wanna jab at it or solid punch it.

An important point I think I’ve discovered and could do with more emphasis in this article is the role of the hands in the swing and how they contribute to many mishits. Its related to the misconception of ‘hitting it up’ and is a good thought for avoiding it. That is, the hands must continue through the ball during impact. I think many of us think way too much about the clubhead and sometimes forget about our hands. If the hands ‘slow down’ through impact, because we don’t focus on them continuing through, the inevitable result is a scooping action of the clubhead. This seems to be a must for any swing, including drives, irons, chipping putting, the lot. And I think it’s one of the main factors that differentiate the ‘naturally talented’ players from us ‘hackers’.

Hand position is the criterion but any one can learn it, not just the talented.

I taught a fifty year old sheila to do it. Not impressed. I was/am married to her.

It wasn’t that tough. I know any one can do it with a bit of help.

Guru, any idea where in China?

An hour north of Beijing. If you want I can find out.

Discussion for Hitting the Ball Thin

I found Wayne’s article on hitting the ball thin very informative. As I have only recently just got back to the game after some years off the course I decided to relearn the game and this is great. Thanks Wayne!

The right arm gets a whole lot longer when secondary axis tilt is brought into play.

Drive that right should down plane NOT out and forwards.

Thanks again, Burner. Good reminder.
