Here’s another in the swing series from the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio

It’s a 12 shot sequence and file size is about 390k

Great sequence, illustrating purity of mechanical motion, at least from this angle. So why is he +4 at the Birdgestone? Do you suppose that his mental game cannot keep up with his physical game? With that swing he ought to be -4 instead of plus four.

Was thinking the same about Adam Scott :)

VJ has plenty of mental toughness. Great player.

No pun intended, but what it that? And how does it complement playing?

And we could likely find a few more, as well. It is easy to become mesmerized by the few exceptionally good rounds and fail to notice the many that are merely routine, though for the tour entourage, even that is fairly good, just not consistently so. Of course, it has been that way for so long that anyone daring to put a new look to it is likely to be drummed out of town. Oh well. Maybe we can create a billboard with a pertinent message in the after-life. LOL

The frame approaching impact is nice, frame after impact shows a full horizontal hinge and the right hand barely hanging on…then a nice big bent left wrist into the finish swivel which I don’t like all that much but works for him.

Is there anyone on tour who is more of a swinger than Vijay?

down and out…did ya get that?

Maybe my eyes are not as educated as some, but I would put Els and Elkington in there somewhere.

You can see in frame #9 how the shaft is bent inwards and his hands are forcing their way to the target and the wrist is bent in an effort to fight the clubface more open.

He has two wrong ideas about the golf swing but he has the force dead right and force corrects him for the short time where it counts - through the ball.

That is why it is so worth while getting the power section right first.

I wonder if he would be better not fighting his swing or the fight is what motivates him the practice so much.

I think if I learned as much about golf thirty years ago as I know now, I would have gone and learned something more interesting.

Wouldn’t it have been an interesting challenge to execute what you knew?

Almost like PP#3 is connected through impact but looks under the shaft driving until only that impact point in time and then the right hands there for the ride back up….why he can ungrip the right hand???

Do you guys think if his right elbow was more in front of his right hip (frame #8) that he would be able to keep his hands connected? It is probably not the source of the problem but the effect it there.

No response to this??? Can’t believe it!!!

I have a question about the two golf shafts VJ is using during practice. I assume the one sticking out of the ground represents the swing plane, or more specifically, in terms of the forum instruction articles, the plane of his right forearm at impact. What is the purpose of the second shaft intersecting it? I assume his coach is holding that one up.

Hi Mate – the shaft out fo the ground is indeed for the swing plane – the other one is his caddy. It is almost impossible to get a clear shot with coaches, caddies, other players etc hanging around all the time. You have to wait for a clearing and then quickly snap….we have 100’s of frames where someone moved across the frame. Was a nightmare but well worth it.

Frame 9 is the dirtiest thing i have ever seen.
Ew.
That hand.
Ew..
o.0

VJ needs to look at his putting – this has cost him so many shots it is unbearable to watch him try and putt a 3 footer. VJ tee to green is one of the best – putting the worst

Why we are here all criticising, he’s out earning millions, it’s works for him and gained a masters in the process, the moment of truth is all thats counts and works well.
how do you know that the reason he swing this way could be due to physical limitations?
His swing works what more could you ask for

Isnt it great that a guy from a small island of Fiji, who learnt from books, can be in contention with other top world golfers who have been given the best coaching since they were kids .. if he could only Putt !
