There are only two good shots you can hit. Most only use one

Your post makes sense dart. My big miss is the double cross pull hook and smaller miss being a straight pull. Both these hits still feel like I crush the ball. The moment I try to steer the ball back on line or out right the ball just flies weak. My coach told me that when I hit my miss I’m actually coming in late to the ball, i.e My lower body left the arms behind. As a fix he’s trig to reduce my lower body drive to straighten out my shots. Working pretty well I must say. Your post pretty much confirmed everything I was taught and the results are there.

Funnily enough I pulled quite a few balls yesterday. Not sure where that came from as a pull isn’t something I’ve ever really done before. But geez they felt pure.

When I’m hitting them all over the place with driver …. its usually because I am not centred, but I’m swaying on the backswing, and then swaying back to the ball on the downswing and trying to time it perfectly at impact (which never works) ..... so my legs are all over the place. When I am hitting them well though (slight draw shot) and also putting some good distance on my drives …. it’s because I haven’t swayed, and instead, I’ve remained centred over the ball, and concsiously tried to remind myself to stay centred (which naturally enough, reduces the amount of leg action involved). The other thing is, when I’m pulling the odd one badly, eg almost a hook, I know that my hips have gone right thru and turned to open before impact and then have dragged my swing plane way off line …....... so my remedy is to just focus on keeping everything square to the ball thru impact. (Not sure if I succeed in that ….... but it feels like it) When my drives are on song though, I start with a slightly open clubface at address …. keep myself square to the ball as much as possible thru my swing (with my legs quiet) .... and just let the clubface close thru impact naturally…... Not sure how this fits with Dr. Darty’s model …. but I think in my own way ….... I may have some of the symptoms.

Feeling of chest covering the ball at impact never goes astray!
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |

Such true words. This swing thought works well for me.

Ghetto, It is like changing gear in a manual car. If max revs is 6K probably the most efficient change would be about 4K. In a golf swing if you max out the hip turn and slide there is no time for the shoulders arms and club to do their work. Think of the difference between a short right and a bolo punch. If a long hip drive is 30 cms a short drive is 15 cms. We have 1/10th of a second to stretch and contract hips, body, arms and swing the club, take 1/100th of a second too long with the hips and you pull it or cut it. I suppose using words is always some sort of riddle, especially if you don’t use a dictionary.

Combined with left hand covering the left pocket.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

Those are great description of forcing an out of order sequence into position and getting away with it. We call them compensations. They are great for a while but miserably in the long term. They will not give the satisfaction of you better shots. They have to done to get you through a bad day but you know it ain’t right. I could be wrong. Find out for yourself.

If a long hip drive is 30 cms a short drive is 15 cms. ?? too sophisticated for my small brain. Most of us do casting, esp. in mid to long irons. I do feel a good contact when I pull straight. Most of the time, it is more of a fade/ slice and short !!! Always been told to hit from the inside of the ball. Do I use more hands and keep legs and hip more quite?
