Nothing succeeds like insouciance!!

It happened to my wife today as it has to all of us at some time. My Dad used to say it. She had 8 on the 10th and thought she had no chance of winning the Medal of Medals, relaxed and won by 2 shots. How to acquire this swashbuckling, reckless attitude of nonchalance on the golf course?

You also often see people (including myself) have a bad hole and think they have blown any chance of winning and give up, don’t concentrate, sook, get angry, and lose by a shot.

two stubbies before hit off always works and played some of my best golf ever drinking around the course but i know this isn’t the answer your looking for lol. If I can see I am losing my way, I will try and free my thoughts by becoming aware of my surrounds. I will start by recognising all the different trees on the course and the the different wildlife. feel the sun on my face and the wind in the air. This allows me to relax and breath again. Once i make this imaginary connection to all, my mind is free and ready to have fun again.

So after the 2 stubs don’t work you pull out the reefer.

lol… what ever it takes

I cannot play while on the piss. I don’t have a well drilled, technically sound, on-plane swing and therefore rely on a lot of hand-eye cooperation and feel. Alcohol dulls this which results in bigger numbers.

don’t drink alot these days and don’t have a well drilled swing either. My experiences with drink and golf have always been pleasurable. It was definitely a very effective relaxant for me

I don’t either gitup and when I did it used to affect me pretty badly. I couldn’t have 2 stubs without my golf game falling to bits. This didnt matter mind you on many pleasurable hits and giggles with mates on social days, but no good if I wanted to play well.

You guys haven’t learned the benefits of “aiming fluid”?

As far as being non-chalant on the course regarding your game, it is something you can practice. I think Fred Couples just did it by playing a lot of golf. Excessive desire can be bad for the score…

Just testing. Obviously no one has heard of Clear Keys.

Have heard of clear keys, have also used clear eyes to remove the telltale signs after a reefer too. Have never mixed it with golf though. Lol but back on topic, clear keys requires discipline to practise and put into practise.

Yes I have heard and read up on them a bit and even put it into practice. Can’t remember what my key was but it was some little rhyme. Found it a bit far removed and distracting from the task at hand – as though it disconnected you from the game altogether. Now I just try and keep the image of the target in my mind and swing with trust and purpose. Definately no swing mechanics thoughts though. Ahhhh that was it! My grandfather tells the story of Jim Shelley who in his small town in the 40’s ran nude from the washhouse to the laundry to fetch the towel he forgot and was seen by 2 primary school teachers walking to work – Miss Stottard and Mills. He was given 3 years hard labour in jail!!! The townsfolk made up a little ditty that I adopted some 70 years later as my clear key. It went… How do you do Jim Shelley how are you?

I’ve known a few players who could not get going at golf without a few starters (stubbies). Hopeless players when sober.

I couldn’t be bothered. I don’t care. It’s not a word I need to use.

I still like the idea of using aiming fluid.

Found it a bit far removed and distracting from the task at hand – as though it disconnected you from the game altogether. That is about the right idea, like you are shaving, tying your shoes or driving a car, you do it all while you are thinking about something else. Finding the target is as simple as finding the first tee. Learning a swing you can use without thinking – once you have learned it is the trick.
