And I thought it was Ask the Dart, not ask Zen or Loren, or Razaar. So how about those whose thread it isn’t, stay on their own threads.??

Would make sense. On the wrist (?) move/action on the way down, it works for me a treat. Still early days, it hasn’t become a ‘thoughtless’ action for me yet. But I’m working at it. I kinda feel like if I get it right at impact it feels like it sustains for ages through the shot. Probably the feel not real thing, but I like it. Phart mate, it sits so well with all else you’ve mentioned. Do you reckon though other things need to be learnt first? I don’t think I could have dealt with this move a year ago, definitely not 2! As my pivot/link/whatever gets stronger with PST these advanced things are more usable or acceptable to my mechanics as they are seemingly driven better. Does that make sense?

Haven’t got a thread mate. The fact is I had addressed Dart and was called out by the zeninator to which I replied to which Loren stepped in on Zen’s behalf. Check it out and see if I’m wrong.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

Is the swingguide a good tool to use to set ur wrists at the top. I’ve got one but I lent it to my sister about 3 years ago, should I get it back?
Definition of insanity…thinking that u can be a good parent and decrease ur handicap at the same time! |

Hi Greeneye, Greeneye regards to Razaar I’m on your side I jumped in, I apologise for that. Although I can’t handle when some one tries to undermine Dart like he does with his statements. I hope Madam pulls this guy into line.

I welcome visitors with a keen ear and mind but I don’t want any advise unless I ask for it. All the advise I got the hard way and paid heaps for it. And it was worth the price.

Stink, I love that you got that. I haven’t tried it on beginners yet but I think I will.

And I guess that’s what I’m going through now, Dart. And I hope in the end it will be worth it. Cheers, big :)

Dart – a question for you. In one of the several emails I have sent to you, I mentioned what my goals were for this year. Do you think I have set them realistically, or do you think I could have been a bit harder on myself and set them higher?

I’m glad too, a way to go, but starting is great :)

greeneye, Don’t be hard on yourself – ever, but just aim lower. You will break that number with ease every time you go out soon enough. My concern is that people don’t get the best out of themselves because the don’t dream wild enough. At first make the goals easy but unlock your minds potential by setting gradually higher and eventually seemingly ridiculous goals – like shooting under par in a couple of years. That way you don’t hit mental blocks and scare yourself when you start birdie, birdie, birdie, which will happen just by chance one day. Might as well shoot 65. Why fight yourself? If you don’t ask you don’t get. I wondered why I never shot lower than 62 – 7 times. Then I recalled as a kid I figured that I should be able to shoot 10 under on a good day. If someone had suggested 18???? I played with Billy Dunk at Coffs Harbour who was 12 under after 12 then started lipping out with a shocking suddenness – like he was suddenly cursed. Dispossessed by God. The balls sat on the side or 5 mls short. I wonder what he thought. Thoughts are things that effect you. Good or bad.

Yep. That’s fine Zen, and Deepdivot apologised for being confused and asking you instead of asking Dart on his thread. So that’s fine. At this stage though, when I ask Dart a question, I just want him to answer on this thread. If I have a question for you, I will ask it on your thread. Is that OK?

Greeneye, Thanks for getting that straightened out. Now for your driver.

Yeah it’s funny how holding that particular club in your hand can change your swing from something reasonable to something a dervish would be proud of. ;)

Dart, is a prime example of the bent left wrist on the downswing Dustin Johnson? Does the turn/clear hips have to become more aggressive to counter act the hook that you said this action promotes? I think you’re articulating something that I have sort of been piecing together myself from parts of Hogan and Slicefixer teaching – just want to make sure I’m on the same wavelength as you. Thanks so much, really appreciate the time you give here.

Dart and I (the TGM guys) work with the following wrist and hand motion definitions: flat – the natural condition when hanging loosely from the shoulder. Stretch out the fingers and you’ll see that. You get the most wrist cock from a flat left wrist. On plane, when turned to the plane angle. bent – (back on itself) dorsi-flexed, a concave or cupped look to the back of the left wrist. Bending the left wrist is a fault. The right wrist bends only. arched – palmar-flexed, a convex or bowed look to the back of the left wrist. Permissible as insurance against the fault of a bent left wrist. turn – (away from) clockwise, a hand motion. roll – (into, toward) counter-clockwise, a hand motion. The left hand turns 1/4 turn or rolls 1/4 turn. That’s all it does besides cocking and uncocking (radial and ulnar directions) up and down, which is a wrist action. The right wrist bends back enough to put the shaft on plane, and that’s all it does. It’s the corollary of the flat left wrist. The Dart said “arch” of the left wrist to give more bend to the right wrist and lay the shaft under plane, flatter. It feels like the clubhead would drop into your right hip pocket or hit you in the right ankle. Examples are Hogan’s “drop into the slot”, Mike Austin, Sergio, et al less visibly, perhaps Tiger a little. Hogan reportedly had his irons bent to 6 degrees flat. I wouldn’t recommend that. Dustin Johnson? Yes. Only we call it arched. Aggressive legs has nothing to do with clubface alignment.

Huba, Loren has filled in the details but the only way you know you are on the right track is what your eyes see and what the ball tells you. Don’t believe “them”. “They” might be right for “them” but not necessarily for you. You usually are in a extreme state of development where all the rules are out the window. Get something to work and go from there. The instructions you get are the end result of years of screwing around with goofy ideas that would look crazy in books or mags. When you refine what works for you, it could look like a book. The aggressive hip action worries me. The slide and turn used is like, falling onto your left foot. What kills the hook is storing the release a little longer; avoiding over acceleration – the golf swings number one enemy. The right track Huba ? If not your are very close. Go for it. Keep refining what works for you.

Goofy ideas are what breaks you out of the mental trap of “doing it right”. Who says and on what grounds. You have to do what works now. That could change from hole to hole. Try crazy grips, stances and ball placements. Something must work at this point in time, and always does, but you must be free to move. How do you know if its right or wrong or not worth thinking about? Dead simple. If it is right – it gets better. If it is wrong – it gets worse. If it is not worth thinking about – nothing changes. Not to say it is not right some other time or for someone else but it is not for you now, at this particular stage of your development. You can only go to your next step, not someone else’s. Lots of golfers are trying to do some other golfers end development. If you knew the steps they took earlier, you would be surprised.

Crazy ideas that might be fun. Swaying. Some people stay so still they can’t move their weight with the swing and generate fantastic power. Piccolo grip. Let it loose. Lots of good players used it early to develop clubhead speed. you can always tighten it up easily. Play the ball off you back foot. Bend your left arm. Use extreme foot work. Roll your wrists too much. Can’t hurt on the practice fairway :)

Loren,in the “gateway”4-D-1…the flw, doesnt describing the cupping of the left wrist at the top mean that whilst it is an error geometrically speaking,it is still very compatible and “used” effectively in true centrifugal swinging. In easy speak,it adds to length of clubhead travel at top of backswing, and so long as the club finds its own in line condition at impact all is good, would it not fall in line with educated hands.

Yessir, Brownman, that is correct. Response moved to Ask the TGM Guys thread.
