Thanks Paul. That’s very generous of you to say that. When I see the guys at my club who are off lower handicaps than me, I study them closely to see what areas of their game are better than mine. I think it’s their consistency. That’s where Zenolink has helped. The consistency of my shots is much better now than it was when I started on the PST drills. Because of that, I am much more confident when I’m standing over the ball. Do I still hit bad shots? Yes, of course, we all do – even the pros occasionally hit a bad one. I just try to recover the best way I can now and try to salvage a bogey at worst, or even a par if I can. When I see you for the screening, will you have time to go over a couple of shots with me?

The strange thing about greeneye to me is he looks like single figures, hits the ball hard solid and has the composure it takes to be good. He is built for golf – a bit like Peter Senior. I hope I see him at his best.

The funny thing that has happened to me in the last 10 months is that I think I have developed into more of a “feel” player. I see a shot that I need to draw around trees and I just set up and do it. I need to hit a fade, and I do it. The more difficult the shot, the more likely I am to hit it. However, if it is beyond my capabilities at present, then I will take the safe option and play within my limitations. It’s all part of learning to manage my game. Now that my handicap is starting to come down, the hardest part mentally out on the course is not changing the way I play, but keeping it the same as the way I played to get there. Zenolink has helped to get my movements in the right sequence during my swing so that I don’t have to think about that while I am out on the course, but assess my next shot, decide what I want to do, and then go ahead and do it. I am still adjusting to the new distances I hit my clubs. e.g. today on one hole I hit my 3 rescue 190m off the tee. Previously that was my 170m club. One of my 3 woods went 200m from the fairway. My 3 wood was usually about 180m. I could only hit it 200m occasionally off the tee. I am not trying to hit harder, but I think my swing has become more efficient than it used to be.

Greeneye, It goes to show that good ideas work well. Bad ones kill you slowly because they overpower your good sense. It takes some time to realign the good ideas.

Greeneye, A job really well done. God only knows what you might get for X-mas. I still think you are single figure man.

aimr, Beautiful piece of work on that swing. From the front you can see daylight between you right elbow and your hip. You could sneak the elbow past that hip for better results. At the same time from the back the shaft is about 5 cms outside where it could be. Don’t try to stay down so long, it will cramp your pivot. It is something to aim for at the top of the swing. Get that under your belt then just flight the ball the way you like. Talented swing; highly correct with big plus points.

Greneye, An advantage of Zeno is simplification. Just muscle up and aim. The disadvantage is you need to learn power control or pitching from the back of the green.

Thanks for the feedback Dart, will work on the aspects you’ve mentioned. It’s been a bit of a stop/start road for me with golf but hopefully will continue on with it this time. Started working on my swing again a couple months ago after a couple of years off. I’m enjoying the process

aimr, One of the nice things about golf, you can play with it forever, so it is worth getting it correct as early as possible. The higher levels are much more fun than hacking.

i hope to get there one day.. ive simply put very little time into golf.. in the last 4 odd years i can count on one hand the number of times ive been on a course :) Just havent had the time for it, so hoping to change that. Just working on drills at home for now and some range sessions.. and trying to just stick with a pitching wedge.. mostly 1/4 to 1/2 swings.. no point doing full swings and trying to use a 5 iron when i can’t hit a wedge properly :) When i feel like ive ingrained a 1/4 swing with a wedge and consistently compress the ball, i will move onto a full swing and then longer irons etc.. Im more patient this time around.. no point rushing, taking full swings, hitting long irons too early as i know it simply doesnt work.. (for me anyway) just going to start simple this time around, take it slow and hopefully come out with a swing i can consistently use

Yep. I’m just getting used to the new distances. I’m still thinking in the old distances, then doing a quick correction to the new distance, then a quick reminder to just make a normal swing and not to overhit with the new club, because that’s when I’m likely to pull the ball left of where I’m aiming. Whereas, my normal swing now is either a gentle draw, or a straight shot. I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many compliments during a round by the blokes playing with me. It’s good for the ego, but you have to ignore the compliments during the round. A simple thanks, then start thinking about something else before you get to the ball and start thinking about the next shot. It’s funny, but I’m much more business-like during the round.

But, I switch off more between shots (if that makes sense)

Been learning heaps, fixing faults = interesting process. Then out of the blue a revisit of total mind warp – loss of concentration, interest, the old apathy thing again and despite serious effort hard to struggle out of despite golf becoming easier and less stressful. Happens at one specific course only, not that inspiring course sorta boring but thats not an excuse i know and if im waiting on tee at every hole and then every second shot because the other old ladies only hit a short distance – eeekkk! Perhaps im add?

maggie, That is a flunk on the first mental fundamental. Take the next game at that course as a challenge in walking to the next tee like it was the first time ever. A brand new day – every shot. It means you drop off the baggage from before. I know you have done it in the past but you have to do it again. It need not be an effort. Just create it. You make your own universe to play in. Don’t let the bastards torment you. If you have trouble there are a few things I can recommend.

Dart, I really value checking things with you, to me understanding things is very important and I also know how easy it is to think you understand things when in fact you don’t, so here goes. I have been going through Zen’s material about Zenolink and kinetic sequencing and I think I have understood something that you might have been saying all along. From the Zenolink material, the point I keyed on was how kinetic sequencing was too fast to think about. An analogy is that we can walk upstairs effortlessly, but if we started to think about moving muscles and limbs, our performance would deteriorate. That tells me 2 things: if you want to improve kinetic links, you can’t do it by thinking about it, you have to use something like Zenolink. But, more importantly for me, if you think about anything to do with components of the pivot, you will likely make your kinetic linkage performance worse. Much worse. That would suggest ruling out any sort of swing thoughts related to the pivot. That suggests that I might actually be performing at way less than my natural ability simply because I am thinking about stuff that should not be thought about. What I think I can, or should, think about is hitting the ball with a level, bent right wrist, using a fanning motion of the right forearm (my current definition of Hitting), and releasing. The pivot should be left to happen naturally. I got to this from the Zen / Zenolink thread, but I am checking with you because I think I have just realised how / why Hands Controlled Pivot works! Sense or nonsense, Dart?

Hi Paul, I’m struggling with a pull due to a slight over the top move. My practice swings look and feel fine, I do mirror work and all seems fine, but put a ball in front of me and the ott move happens not matter what I try. On course I end up having to aim far right to compensate. This same ott move sometimes causes a push and even a slice and often a shank….but mainly it’s a pull / hook which actually feels flush off the face. Can you recommend any drills for me? As I said my practice swings look fine but as soon as I address a ball bye bye birdie…. unless I conciously think about the mechanics of the swings which then results in hitting it fat or thin. Would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.
