Zen, Kel Nagle told me there was not a shot he couldn’t play. No, he said he had all the shots.

Hi Paul, wonder if you could please tell me about Dominators – who always seem to get the pace of play etc to their preference, usually racing! How to combat that tension to your advantage?? thanks
|
|
Maggie, Racing should be no trouble, just make them wait. Slow is unbeatable, you just have to wait. It is hard to play with people you don’t like but it one of the games character builders. You have to learn ball control, power control as well as environmental control; that includes partner and gallery. I prefer the direct approach. Tell them your concern straight away. The may scoff but at least it is off your chest. Tony Jacklin said to Lee Trevino that he did not want to talk during the round. Trevino said that’s OK, I will do all the talking.

thanks as ever, can you speak about attacking the course please – I’m wondering if that mindset moves you into a stronger role where other issues take back seat?

Phil, We did skip a date. You just have to put up with it.

No sweat Phil but when the swing improves so do the shots. 3wd needs precise strike at low point. Your stability graph needs to improve; and it will.

Thanks Paul. This princess will HTFU.

Paul. I do have to be very careful with my short irons that I don’t hit them over the back of the green. However, there has been no change in distance with my mid and long irons. The mid-irons do sound a bit different (as do the short irons). Contact sounds a lot more solid. And I’m still having trouble with my 3 wood and driver. It’s almost got to the stage where my 3 wood is going to be left at home and not allowed out of the garage.

Phil, The improvement with the drills is bellow your level of consciousness. The graphs however see it all. The short irons are the first to improve, then it spreads. Any club that is not behaving at this time should be dropped until you feel easier. It is not about struggle, it is about growing a new swing; like roses or something. They just grow when they grow. You can’t demand a tomato plant grows. You give it the right conditions. Conditions. Conditions. PST. If you have to play with a seven iron for six months, do it. But you get the idea. Work easy at the right technique. Then bull’s eye.

You simple must make a nice swing even if you miss the ball, until the ball gets in the way. Anything else is just hacking, and produces only hackers.

I think I’m a hacker from way back Paul. Lots of bad habits to change. Still, we’ve made a start.

Yes greeneye. A journey of a thousand miles, eh. The next graphs will show what has changed in the last two months. It will not be much but it will have changed, if you have done the drills. That is a high thing because golfers don’t change their basic pattern – their entire lives. Congratulations in advance.

And baby steps at that

It is so nice to know if you are going in the right direction or not early. It saves a lot of wasted time.

and a lot of wasted energy and effort :)

You should be on single figures in six but feel like you are there in two. The last four are self image shifts. THIS COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG. You could do it in one year. It depends on what fire you light in your mind or if you decide to do something different. It is nice to be free to choose. If you want golf you can have it.

Funny you should mention that. I think I have already started to think of myself as a bogey golfer. Now it’s just a matter of the handicap catching up to my thinking. My ball striking with the irons seems a lot more solid. And I’m not missing quite as many drives as badly as I was before. I think I need to work on my short irons around the green and develop my skills in that area. It’s all about working on the skills. Baby steps. Gradual improvement. Until all those little steps have added up to one giant leap. See you on Sunday. :)

Paul Hart,hi mate ,hope all is well with you. His backswing was prolly no more than left arm parallell to ground and he simply looped his club at the top of his short swing to get to in to out on d/swing,not a real fast swing but you could see the club gaining momentum into impact.. not much more to add, just thought i would share it,i was a tad envious as he certainly wasnt overswinging but all in all,a good little compact swing IMO….......cheers
Golfs ABC…………..Always Be Cool……….Thanks paul Hart |

Brownman, I love to play around with that kind of action and have used versions with many pupils including my wife who got from 27 to14 at age 60. It is a clumsy way to get the swing loaded against the body turn but can be very instructive then modified to look better. Hogan talks about it a lot. I learned it from Lee Trevino when he said “if you don’t lay it off you can’t hit it. I had his figure 8 book and could see what it meant”. It helps the upper body work but does not guarantee the lower body work or the precision required. Every one should try it just to break up any fixed ideas that may be holding them back.

Hi Darty,

G’day Paul. Had 5 GIR. My “played to” in Golflink ranges from 19 to 25, which is a much tighter grouping than before. So I definitely think that 18 is achievable before the end of this year. For the next set of drills, for the plyometric swings, when it refers to heavy, medium and light is that the weight of the club that is being referred to? Can we do this by putting weighted rings on the club?
I’m a golf tragic |
|
Greeneye, Great score in that weather. It was the last and best shot you hit, the draw. You can tell by the last graph There are specially weighted shafts we can buy but use you sand iron for the heavy then 6 iron and 3 iron. I wonder what Zen would suggest.
